Christine Sargent

LIBERTY — Christine Scott Sargent, 90, formerly of Iselin Street in Liberty, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Nov. 22, 2018, at National Healthcare of Anderson.

Born in Pelzer, she was the widow of Jason Carl “Tuffy” Sargent and a daughter of the late D.M. and Bertha Taylor Scott.

She retired from Greenwood Mills and was a member of East Side Baptist Church.

Surviving are two sons, Stan Sargent (Fran) of Liberty, and Phil Sargent (Jane) of Anderson; three grandchildren, Heather Goss (Stephen), Courtney Harmon (Roy) and Caroline Sargent; and four great-grandchildren, Annie and McKinley Goss, Jenifer Jane Harmon and Roy Harmon V.

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Funeral services to honor the life of Mrs. Sargent were held Nov. 25 in the Liberty Mortuary chapel. Private burial followed at M.J. “Dolly” Cooper Veterans Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to East Side Baptist Church, 920 Anderson Drive, Liberty SC 29657.

Nancy Edna Owen Hanson

EASLEY — Nancy Edna Owen Hanson, 87, of Easley, went to be with her Lord Friday Nov. 23, 2018.

Born in Transylvania County, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Calvin and Ethel McCall Owen. She was the wife of the late William A. Hanson.

Mrs. Hanson worked in the public school system in food service and was of the Baptist faith. She enjoyed singing and cooking her famous apple sauce pie.

Survivors include four sons, Benny Hanson (Shirley) of Easley, Ray Calvin Hanson of Easley, Jack Edward Hanson (Donna) of Pickens and Joe David Hanson (Lisa) of Easley; and five sisters, Nola Pruitt of Asheville, N.C., Grace Reece of Asheville, N.C., Cumile Galloway (Dewey) of Balsam Grove, N.C., Veda McGuire of Pisgah Forest, N.C., and Vivian Watkins of Texas. Mrs. Hanson also leaves 15 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren to share in her memory. In addition to her parents and her husband, Mrs. Hanson was predeceased by four sisters and one brother.

Services were held Nov. 27 in the Dillard Funeral Home chapel, with burial following at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Bruce G. McGaha

PICKENS — Bruce G. McGaha, 67, passed from this life Saturday Nov. 24, 2018, at his home in Pickens.

Born in Franklin, N.C., he was the son of the late Jud and Cleo Schuler McGaha and the husband of Barbara McGaha.

Mr. McGaha retired from Alice Manufacturing as a mechanic technician and was of the Baptist Faith.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara; a son, Master Sgt. Kevin Robert McGaha (Amanda); stepdaughter, Anita McClain; two brothers, John McGaha (Docia) and Larry McGaha (Diane); and two sisters, Bea Jones (Charles) and Cora O’Brien (Ray). Mr. McGaha also leaves four grandchildren to share in his memory.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a stepson, Edward Russell McClain, and his siblings, J.D. McGaha, Carlos McGaha, Shirley Van Hook and Vernice McGaha.

Private services will be held at a later date.

William “Benny” Waters

PICKENS — Benny Waters, 66, husband of Frances Alexander Waters, passed from this life Saturday, Nov. 24, 2018.

Benny was born in Greenville County, a son of the late Alvin Coolidge Waters and the late Doris Jennette Garrett. He was a member of Cove Creek Baptist Church and was known to be an avid TV watcher. Benny also loved playing with his grandchildren, riding his motorcycle and fishing.

Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Frances, of the home; a daughter, Patricia Bryant; two sons, Matthew Waters (Jennifer) of Pickens and Chris Waters (Mindy) of Liberty; two sisters, Bonnie Broadway (Mitch) and Dee Sensabaugh (Rob); and his stepfather, Carl Calimer, all of Waynesboro, Pa. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren, Amanda, Summer Brandon, Casey Waters (Daniel), April Burns, Kamron Burns, Carter Burns, Michael Waters, Michael Huffstetler and Brayden Leese; and two great-grandchildren, Collin Waters and Caden Huffstetler.

Visitation will be held from 1:30-3 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, at Cove Creek Baptist Church. The funeral service will follow at 3 p.m. in the church, officiated by Rev. Travis Spivey and Rev. Dean Pettit. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The family is at the home of Mr. Waters’ son, Chris.

Rickey Allen Johnson

EASLEY — Rickey Allen Johnson, 61, passed from this life on Nov. 21, 2018.

Born in Greenville County, he was a son of Patsy Richardson Johnson and the late Ronald G. Johnson.

Survivors include his mother; two sons, Richard Johnson of Pickens and Chris (Leslie) Johnson of Liberty; three granddaughters, Madison, Charity and Piper Johnson; and a sister, Cathy Sosebee.

Mr. Johnson was predeceased by his father, an infant daughter, Heidi Johnson, and one sister, Carol Brewer.

Receiving of family and friends will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 29, with a memorial service to follow in the funeral home chapel at 2 p.m.

Grace Osborne Moughler

EASLEY — Mrs. Grace Osborne Moughler, 86, wife of Alfred Glen Moughler, passed away Monday, Nov. 26, 2018.

Born in Flint, Mich., a daughter of the late Donald Ray Osborne and the late Elizabeth Anne Vailencourt Osborne, Mrs. Moughler was a retired hemodialysis technician and a member of the Church of Christ.

Surviving, in addition to her husband of 67 years, are a son, Walter Moughler (Debbie) of Bakersfield, Calif.; a daughter, Ellen Meadows (Donald) of Flint, Mich.; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Moughler was predeceased by a daughter, Linda Birmingham, three brothers and one sister.

Memorial services will be held at a later date in Michigan.

Family members are at their respective homes.

Shaun Gilstrap

TRAVELERS REST ­— Shaun William Gilstrap, 28, husband of Jaymi Pariseau Gilstrap, died Friday, Nov. 16, 2018.

Shaun was born in Greenville County, a son of Terry and Sheila Gilstrap Frizzell of Travelers Rest. He was employed with Monte’s Tree Service and was a Baptist. An avid outdoorsman, Shaun loved to hunt deer and wild hogs and loved to hear his hunting dogs run.

Survivors include his wife, Jaymi Gilstrap; his parents, Terry and Sheila Frizzell; his twin brother, Don Lee Gilstrap; sisters, Terry Nicole “Scooter” Frizzell and Lashay Nicole Gilstrap; and step-brother, Richard Lloyd Holcombe Jr. Also surviving are nieces and nephew, Karma Leigh Keiper, Emily Lynn Keiper, Brayden Leon Keiper, Brystle Leann Gilstrap and Graceland Faith Gilstrap.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Juanita Mulkey

EASLEY — Juanita Massey Mulkey, 80, of 408 South D Street, Apt. 22, died Sunday, Nov. 25, 2018 at her residence.

Born in Liberty, she was the widow of John Wesley Mulkey and a daughter of the late Claude Eugene and Minnie Lee Porter Massey. She was a member of Bible Baptist Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Paige Mulkey Martin (Stephen) of Easley; two sons, Mark Mulkey of Florence and Steve Watson (Susan) of Shelby, N.C.; three sisters, Betty Floyd of Greenville, Judy McAlister of Liberty and Jane Shirley of Liberty; 10 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and numerous special nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents she was predeceased by a son, Brian Watson; three sisters, Mary McKinney and Sara Weger and Neal Gilstrap; and two brothers, Charles Massey and Marvin Massey.

Graveside services to honor the life of Mrs. Mulkey will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov 29 at Liberty Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at Liberty Mortuary.
