Easley — Gloria Jean Rhodes, 65, of Easley died Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2013 at Baptist Easley Hospital.
Born in Greenville County, the daughter of Jesse Rhodes and the late Matilda (Tillie) Alexander Rhodes. She worked for Pickens County Better Skills and was a member of Glenwood Baptist Church.
Surviving in addition to her father, are a brother, Eugene Rhodes (Mary); a nephew, Bobby Rhodes (Tina); four great nieces and nephews, Jacob Dale, Breanna Nicole, Candice, and Jamie Smith.
Funeral services were 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 8 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown. Burial followed in Greenlawn Memorial Park.

William Nelson
Easley — William Roger Nelson, 60, of Dacusville, husband of Charlina (CJ) Simmons Nelson, died Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2013 at his home.
Born in Charleston, W.Va., he was the son of Mancy and Ellen Keller Nelson. Mr. Nelson worked for RC / Cheerwine Company and was a member of Piedmont Park Baptist Church.
Surviving in addition to his wife and parents, are a daughter, Haley Brooke Barkley who was the joy and love of his life; sister, Sherri Nelson of Belle, W.Va.; mother-in-law, Joyce Bolding of the home; father and mother-in-law, George and Lynn McCurry Simmons of Pendleton; brother and sister-in-law, Timothy and Shannon Simmons of Pickens; nieces and nephews, Kevin Walker, Kristi Walker, Lilly Walker, Isaac Walker, Julia Walker and Travis Stephens, all of Nashville, and Christian and Krista Simmons of Pickens; special uncle Ray Cash of Greenville whom he loved like a father.
Funeral services were conducted at 3:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown.

Ruby Whitlock
Liberty — Ruby Vera Gantt Whitlock, 88, of 15 Hedgepath Street died on Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2013.
Born in Liberty, she was the widow of the late Roy William Whitlock and a daughter of the late Charlie and Maude Powell Gantt. She was retired from Woodside Mills and a member of East Side Baptist Church. She was a Godly woman who loved her family, church and friends.
Surviving are two daughters, Joy Whitaker and Anita Gillespie (Jim) both of Liberty; a sister, Eunice Alexander of Liberty; five grandchildren, Missy Ricken (Richard), Mandy Partain (Tommy), Jody Whitaker (Dana), Jamie Gillespie and Tracey Roach (Jereme); and 10 great grandchildren, Brett, Chad and Hope Ricken, Michelle and Miranda Dalton, Kip Partain, Hannah and Houston Whitaker, Austin Snow and Landen and Colby Roach.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Louise Waldrop; and four brothers, Gene, William “Beno”, Dwight and Roscoe Gantt.
Funeral services for Mrs. Whitlock were held at 11 a.m. Saturday at East Side Baptist Church. Burial was at Liberty Memorial Gardens.

James Chapman
Central — James Carlton Chapman, 67, husband of Joann McGill Chapman, died Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2013 at Cannon Memorial Hospital.
Born in Pickens County, a son of the late Melvin and Grace Patterson Chapman, he worked in textiles and was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Norris. He was a Navy Veteran.
Surviving in addition to his wife are, three sons, Richard and Kenny Chapman and Scott Yates; a daughter, Sherry Rector, 12 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. In addition to his parents, Mr. Chapman was predeceased by a daughter, Kim Chapman; two brothers, Waddy and Ronnie Chapman; one sister, Bunt Dove.
Graveside services were 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 9 at Faith Baptist Church Cemetery in Norris.

Daniel Wade Mathis
Central — Daniel Wade Mathis, age 52, husband of Shelia Ann Riddle Mathis, died Tuesday Aug. 6, 2013 at his home.
Mr. Mathis was born in Easley; the son of Annie Ruth Gilstrap and Grover Mathis, Jr. of Pickens. Mr. Mathis was of the Baptist faith and, loved hunting, fishing and camping.
Survivors include his wife of 26 years, one daughter; Tiffany Ann Bryant (Christopher) of Laurens, four sons; Daniel Wade Mathis, Jr. (Kati) of Anderson, Jerry Allen Mathis, Richard Matthew Mathis both of Easley, Joshua Andrew Mathis (Andrea) of Pickens, two stepdaughters; Shannon Marie Angeledes and Tiffany Marie Diane Angeledes both of Central, three stepsons; Travis Michael McCall of Pickens, Daniel David Angeledes and Austin Lee Angeledes both of Central, one sister; Susan Darlene Bright (William) of Pickens, two brothers; Michael Leroy Mathis of Pickens, Timothy Carlton Mathis of Norris and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral service was at 3 p.m. Saturday Aug. 10 at Fairview Independent Baptist Church.

Frances Helen Gilbert
Easley — Frances Helen Gilbert of Easley died on Aug. 4, 2013.
She was born June 11, 1938 to Lawson and Mary Gilbert.
She was also survived by five children, Randy Marchbanks, Vickie Gantt, James Marchbanks, Michael Marchbanks, and Felicia Traynum. She had 13 grand-children, 24 great-grand children, and two great-great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by two brothers Roy and Bud Gilbert of Easley, and survived by three sisters, Edith Durham, Hazel Shirley, and Alma Fortner.
She will be greatly missed by us all.

Norman Langston
Liberty — Norman David Langston, 76, of 1784 Greenville Highway, died peacefully on Thursday, Aug. 8, 2013 at his residence.
Born in Central he was a son of the late Alvin “Pete” and Lettie Gillespie Langston.
Mr. Langston owned and operated Liberty Farm & Garden for 22 years until his retirement. Throughout his life he was involved in numerous endeavors including; Pickens County Council, to which he served two different times, and was a member of the 1st County Council; he was Pickens County Supervisor for several years; he was a member of the 1st Liberty Rural Fire Board; he was also on the Board of Directors for the Farm Bureau where he was Past President. He was a United States Navy Veteran and a member of East Side Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Martha Nations Langston of the home; a daughter, Jeanine Hayes and her husband Doug of Liberty; a son, Bryan Langston of Liberty; a sister, Nancy Nasim of Greenville; four brothers, Tom Langston of Honea Path, Bobby Langston of Conover, N.C., Jimmy Langston of Gray Court, and Dean Langston of Simpsonville; two grandchildren, Tyler Hayes and his wife, Brittany of Pickens, and Leslie Hayes of Liberty.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Langston.
Funeral services to honor Mr. Langston’s life were 2 p.m. Sunday at East Side Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Joe F. Hayes, Jr. and the Rev. Dr. Rick Lee. Burial was at Flat Rock Baptist Church Cemetery.

Ruth Ellison Davis
Easley — Mrs. Ruth Ellison Davis, 95, wife of the late Ellis Davis, died Friday, Aug. 9, 2013 at her home.
Born in Greenville County, a daughter of the late William David and Ella Looper Ellison, Mrs. Davis attended Taylors High School and Furman University. She was a retired associate from JC Penny and was an active member Mt. Carmel Baptist Church for 36 years. She was a past member of Taylors First Baptist Church.
Surviving are a son, Ellis Davis, Jr. (Marie) of Easley; one daughter, Elizabeth D. Moore of Taylors; a sister, Ruby Lewis of Easley; seven grandchildren, Ken Davis (Debbie), Cindy Davis (Mike), Teresa Handley (Bill), Kathy Hetrick (John), Sherry Bynum (Mike), Melanie Brown (Ken), and Judith Yarborough; 17 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Davis was predeceased by a daughter, Nancy D. Kelly; a brother, J.D. Ellison; and a grandchild, Teri Willis.
Funeral services were 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 12 at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Escort of Honor was the Nancy King Sunday School Class.

Gertrude Cartee
Liberty — Mildred Gertrude Waldrop Cartee, 86, of 527 Campground Road, died peacefully on Friday, Aug. 9, 2013 at the Cottingham Hospice House.
Born in Easley she was a daughter of the late William Ernest and Dura Powell Waldrop. She retired from Alice Manufacturing with 28 years of service. She was a longtime member of Rice’s Creek Baptist Church, where she was a former pianist, Sunday School Teacher and Senior Adult Leader. Her greatest joys in life was her family and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, and traveling with her husband and friends.
Surviving are her husband of 70 years, Grady F. Cartee of the home; two daughters, Brenda Cartee of Liberty, and Annie Nell “Anne” Medlin (Joe) of Southport, N.C.; a son, Kimper Cartee (Reba) of Clemson; six grandchildren, Shandi Howard, Joseph Medlin, Jeremy Price, Jennifer Earwaker, Todd Cartee, and Rebecca C. Stewart; 12 great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a sister, Bernice Massingill.
Funeral services to honor the life of Mrs. Cartee were 2 p.m. Monday in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel. Burial was at Liberty Memorial Gardens.

Nora Y. Brooks
Easley — Nora Youngblood Goss Brooks, 86, of Briarwood Road, died Friday, Aug. 09, 2013.
Born in Six Mile, she was the daughter of the late Scott and Mae Kelley Youngblood. Mrs. Brooks was retired from JP Stevens in Clemson. She was a member of Jones Avenue Baptist Church and the Golden Circle Sunday School Class.
Surviving are her children, James Miles Goss (Mildred) of Pickens, David Scott Goss (Debra) of Pendleton and Debbie G. Potter of Kinston, N.C.; six grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and her twin sister, Flora Youngblood of Piedmont.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by nine brothers and sisters.
Funeral services were held on Monday Aug. 12 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Dillard Funeral Home. Burial followed in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Catherine Katie Selliman
Easley — Mrs. Catherine Katie Townsend Selliman, 61, died Saturday, Aug. 10, 2013 at her home.
Born in Anderson County, a daughter of Evelyn Watson Townsend of Easley, and the late W. Neal Townsend, Mrs. Selliman retired from Ford Motor Company and attended West End Baptist Church.
Surviving, in addition to her mother, are a son, Terry Selliman (Sarah) of Michigan; a sister, Sandra G. Ridge (Edward) of Texas; and three grandchildren, Terrell, Tiara, and Teagan Selliman.
Funeral services were 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 12 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown. Burial followed in the Abbott Cemetery, Liberty.

Lonnie M. Burton
Pickens — Lonnie Morris Burton, 55, of Pickens, died Saturday, Aug. 10, 2013.
Born in Toccoa, Ga., he was the son of the late Newman and Arintha Carter Burton. Mr. Burton was retired from the United States Postal Service in Easley and attended Pickens View Wesleyan Church.
Surviving is his wife of the home, Crystal Smith Burton; daughter, Carley (Heath Haskett); step son, Chip (Brittany); two grandchildren, C.J. and Gracie Lynn; a brother, Leroy Burton (Trude) of Walhalla; and three sisters, Runelle Hall (Jim) and Janice Butts (Roger) all of Walhalla and Glenda Wilbanks (Mel) of Spartanburg; and a sister-in-law, Debbie Burton of Mountain Rest.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Don Burton.
A service to celebrate Lonnie’s life will be held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, August 14 at Pickens View Wesleyan Church.

John C. Youngblood, Sr.
Central — John Carl Youngblood, Sr., 75, of 218 Maw Bridge Road, died peacefully on Friday, Aug. 9, 2013 at the Cottingham Hospice House in Seneca.
Born in Pickens he was a son of the late Lawrence “Carl” and Mary “Janie” Simmons Youngblood. He served in the United States Air Force for 20 years and retired June 30, 1977 from active duty. Mr. Youngblood continued to work in the legal field in Anchorage, Alaska until he returned to his home in South Carolina in 1982. He continued to change his career path over the years until his most recent retirement from “Pickens Country Club” where he enjoyed his passion for golf for a number of years. He was very active in Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Central, where he served as treasurer for 10 years, and was a current lay leader. John loved his church, his family, his golf, and his Braves.
Surviving are his wife and best friend of 23 years, Sherrie Johnston Youngblood of the home; a daughter, Cynthia Phillipps (Karl) of Vacaville, Calif.: three sons, John C. Youngblood, Jr. (Helga) of Anchorage, Alaska, Larry Youngblood (Brigitte) of Indonesia, and Carey Youngblood (Lisa) of San Diego, Calif.; two sisters, Martha Smith of Lincolnton, N.C., and Mary Beth Ellison of Easley; 12 grandchildren.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Patsy Fortune.
Funeral services to honor the life of John Youngblood will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 15 at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 until 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the home, 218 Maw Bridge Road, Central SC.

Kristin Collins
Easley — Kristin Richelle Collins, 25, of McGaha Road, died Sunday, Aug. 11, 2013.
Born in Greenville County, a daughter of Richard Collins and wife, Melissa, and her mother, Caroline Shivers, both of Easley, Kristin was formerly employed with Greenville Hospital Systems as a patient care technician and was a member of Brushy Creek Baptist Church.
Surviving, in addition to her parents, are two daughters, McKayla and McKenzie; two sons, Micah and Michael; two brothers, Justin Collins and Jacob Collins, both of Easley; a sister, Megan Collins of Easley; grandparents, Aron Collins and wife, Diane, and Tommy and Mary Ann Shivers, all of Easley.
Kristin was predeceased by her grandmother, Joan Howe Collins.
Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown. Burial will follow in Robinson Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be from 1:30 until 2:45 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, prior to the service.

Central — Columbus Folger Hendricks, (Bill), 94, of 836 Smith Memorial Highway died Monday, Aug. 11, 2013 at Cottingham Hospice House.
Mr. Hendricks was born in Pickens County, a son of the late, Onest Folger and Addie Smith Hendricks. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Evelyn Nations Hendricks. He was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.
Surviving are a son, Jerry (Elaine) Hendricks of Six Mile; two daughters Willena (Bobby Joe) Townsend of Central, and Brenda (Frank) Trammell of Newberry; two brothers, Glenn (Evelyn) Hendricks and Ernest (Linda) Hendricks of Belton; seven sisters, Frances Babb of Greenville, Pauline (Malcom) Gambrell of Simpsonville, Bobbi Jean (Kip) Kennedy of Belton, Shirley Chastain of Piedmont, Oleda (Benny) Coker of Stockbridge, Ga., Carolyn (Terry) McMahan and Inez Daniels both of Belton; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by a son, Gene Hendricks; one brother, Junior Hendricks; and three sisters, Christine Youngblood, Pearl Youngblood and Lucille Cooley.
