ROGER RAY HAYES

PICKENS — Roger Ray Hayes, 78, of Pickens, passed away at home on Saturday, December 21, 2024.

Roger was born in Middlesboro, Ky., to the late Virgil Thomas and Gloria Ann Hayes. He was a member of Secona Baptist Church. Roger retired from Spinx as a District Supervisor and later worked at the North Bend Campground in Virginia. He had a strong work ethic which he instilled in his family. He enjoyed camping but more than anything loved spending time with his family.

Roger is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years Annette Hayes; daughters, Angela Wood (Jeff), Thelma Vandergriff, Angela Timm (Bob); grandchildren, Joshua Wood (Heather), Tyler Vandergriff (Jackie), Julie Larmer (Cody), Stephen Vandergriff, Austin Timm (Tarin); Great-grandchildren, Cadence, Addalynn, Blaze, Emmalynn, Delilah, Raelynn, SJ, Lincoln, Xander, Solomon, Sawyer, Kameron and Calloway; brothers, Jerry Hayes (Diane), Virgil Hayes Jr.; sister, Charlotte Pittman.

Funeral service for Roger were held Dec. 27, at Dillard Memorial Funeral Home, 2402 Gentry Memorial Highway, Pickens.

JAMES ‘BRIAN’ BAGWELL

EASLEY — James “Brian” Bagwell, 50, of Easley, passed away at his home on Friday, December 20, 2024.

Brian was born on Sept. 17, 1974, in Easley to the late Jesse James and Evelyn Bagwell. He was a member of Greater Union Church. Brian enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing pool and most of all spending time with his family. A beloved son, husband, father, brother, and friend he will be deeply missed.

Brian is survived by his wife Cindy Bagwell; son Joshua Miller; daughter Cassidy Bagwell Jones and husband McKinley Jones; son Justin Bagwell; daughter Hailey Bagwell; two grandsons Dawson Jones and Colton Jones all of Easley; sister Ann Bagwell Hembree and husband Bobby Hembree of Union.

Funeral service for Brian were held on Dec. 26, at Dillard Memorial Funeral Home, 2402 Gentry Memorial Highway, Pickens. Brian was laid to rest at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

RHONDA MAUREEN MAULDIN

EASLEY — Rhonda Maureen Mauldin, 76, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, December 21, at her home, surrounded by her loving family.

Born Sept. 27, 1948, in Charlotte, Rhonda was the daughter of the late James L. Roberts and Eudoria Rodden. Rhonda was loved by all of her family and friends. She loved with her whole heart. She was so much fun, and she loved a good sense of humor, because she shared hers. She has been a complete joy to take care of at home with her daughter, Bo and Courtney. Nana was the best and will remain in our hearts forever.

Survivors include a son, Bradley M. Cantrell of Wesminster; a daughter, Lisa Chapman (Dorsey) of Easley; four grandchildren who loved her dearly, Trapper Whitmire, Courtney Biddle, Bo Whitmire and Killianne Cantrell; three great-grandchildren, Titus, Elias and Jordan who were Nana’s “little soldiers”. She also leaves behind her little “Buddy”, her little doggie.

LIZZIE MAE ‘COOKIE’ CASSELL ALEXANDER

PICKENS — Lizzie Mae “Cookie” Cassell Alexander,  87, beloved wife of the late Wallace Alexander, embraced eternal rest on Friday, December 20, 2024, at her cherished home, surrounded by her adoring family.

Born on Jan. 10, 1937, in Pickens County, Cookie was the daughter of the late Loree Cassell Gilstrap. A true artisan, she found joy in gardening and canning, along with weaving love into every stitch as she crocheted prayer shawls and crafted Christmas ornaments for her church, family, and friends. Her artistic gifts flourished in fundraising for her church, embodying the spirit of generosity. Mrs. Alexander held dear her family, the joy of sharing her canned food and recipes with friends and family, Clemson football, gospel melodies, sharing in the day-to-day lives of her family and friends, hosting parties, and the many trips shared with friends and family amidst the majestic mountains of North Carolina and Tennessee.

Her legacy lives on through her children, Kay Bolding (Glenn) and Rhonda Hester (Larry), both of Pickens; grandchildren, Regina Harned (David), Tracey Brock (J.J.) and Steven Hester (Kelly); and great-grandchildren, Brysie, Madelyn, Josiah, Mackynzie, Jaxxston, Emersyn and Everley. She is also survived by her siblings, Jimmy Crowe (Inez) of Pickens and Carl Crowe (Pat) of Liberty; sister-in-law, Winniefred Robinson of Liberty; along with a multitude of cherished friends.

In addition to her beloved husband, Mrs. Alexander was predeceased by her mother, Loree Cassell Gilstrap.

Funeral services took place on Dec. 26, at the chapel of Mountain View Funeral Home, 105 Florence Street, Pickens. Burial followed the service at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

GAIL ANN BAGWELL CALDWELL 

EASLEY — Gail Bagwell Caldwell died Tuesday, December 24, 2024, after a long illness. Born on May 12, 1940, Gail was the daughter of the late Walter and Aleen Hill Bagwell. She lived her lifetime in Easley and was a member of Arial United Wesleyan Church.

Surviving are her three children; Brad Caldwell (Cindy) of Rock Hill, Terri LeGrand (Charlie) of Greenville and Nick Caldwell (Floride) also of Easley. She had seven grandchildren; Meghan Caldwell, Zac Caldwell (Callie), Payton LeGrand (Olivia), Anna Catherine Morris (Derrick), Caroline Caldwell, Mary Helen Bagnal (Holden) and Abigail Caldwell and within the last year of her life she became a great grandmother to three precious babies; Eloise, Izzy and Beck.

Also, she is survived by her brother, Rodney Bagwell and her sister, Deborah Bagwell, both of Easley, along with many much-loved nieces and nephews.

Gail devoted her life to the care of her family. Additionally, she worked in the healthcare field for over 40 years, mostly with Drs. Shealy, Smith and Welbon, from where she retired.

Funeral service for Gail took place at Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown on Dec. 28, at the funeral home chapel. Burial followed in Westview Cemetery in Easley.

JUDY ELAINE MCJUNKIN

EASLEY — Judy McJunkin, 76, of Easley, passed away on December 22, 2024.

She was born on Feb. 3, 1948, to Julius and Barbara McMillian McJunkin.

She worked in manufacturing for many years and also baked amazing cakes for people in the community. Life will not be the same without her Peanut Butter Poundcake. She was hardworking, independent, and always willing to help others. Her smile and laugh were infectious to all who knew her.

Judy is survived by her daughter, Jane; her brother, Donald McJunkin; and her sisters, Mary Ann Carter and Betty Jean Holden.

She is predeceased by her parents; her brothers, James Franklin McJunkin and Carl Edward McJunkin.

A private service will be held at a later date.

ANGELA ‘ANGIE’ DARLENE TURNER

EASLEY — Angela “Angie” Darlene Turner, 60, passed away Monday, December 23, 2024, at Manna Post Acute, surrounded by family.

Born on May 12, 1964, in Greenville, Angie was the daughter of the late Margaret Ellenburg Chappell. She was known for her work at Joe’s Ice Cream Parlor in Easley and was known there by her nickname “Big Cow”. She participated in Relay for Life to raise money for cancer research. She enjoyed camping, gardening, and fishing. She loved traveling to the mountains and going to the Cherokee Casino.

Survivors include her daughter, Camie Turner (Sheldon Chapman) of Jasper, Ga.; significant other, Jamie Hamilton of Easley; sister, Lois Porter (Stanley) of Easley; loving nephew, Justin Porter; and special friends, Tracy, Julie, Dorothy and Wendy.

Mrs. Turner was predeceased by her mother, Margaret Ellenburg Chappell

Funeral services took place on Dec. 29, at the chapel of Mountain View Funeral Home. Burial followed the service at Bethlehem Church Cemetery in Pickens. The Reverend Zachary Tomlinson will be officiating.

DEBORAH ‘DEBBIE’ ANN NALLEY

PICKENS — Deborah “Debbie” Ann Nalley, 62, passed away on Wednesday, December 25, 2024, at her home, surrounded by her loving family and friends.

Born May 30, 1962, Alexander City, Ala., Debbie was the daughter of the late William Greene Patterson and Sandra Arlene Wright Patterson. She enjoyed working in her yard, going to the lake, and sun tanning. Debbie loved her family dearly, especially her grandchildren. Her smile was huge, and her laugh was contagious. She was the spark at family get-togethers. She was very kind and caring; her door was always open to those in need. She was a true friend to many.

Survivors include her children, Sandra Sanchez of Greenville, David “Neal” Nalley (Courtney) of Pickens, Stephanie Proctor (Nathan) of Easley and Jennifer Milton (Jeremy) of Liberty; grandchildren, Elizabeth Ledbetter, Cadence Milton, Katalina Sanchez, Isabella Alvarez, Sadie Milton, Owen Nalley, Kaleb Nalley and Breann Nalley; siblings, Donnie Patterson of Greenville, Tim Patterson (Teresa) of Greenville and Melissa Tilman (Tad) of Simpsonville; nieces and nephews, Kimberly Patterson, Donnie Patterson, Carter Tilman, Ashley Bradley and Courtney Adams and their spouses; and many loving family members and friends. She also leaves behind her best friend Belinda Scruggs, and her dog, Joe Jack, who she loved greatly.

Funeral services were held on Dec. 28, at the chapel of Mountain View Funeral Home in Pickens.

ROY LEON STANCELL

 

LIBERTY — Roy Leon Stancell, 89, of Liberty, passed away on Wednesday, December 25, 2024.

Roy was born in Pickens to the late Jackson Keith and Winnie Stancell. In his 20’s, Roy served in the United States Army. He retired from Duke Power company as an engineer; and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and woodworking.

Roy is survived by his beloved wife Karen Stancell; son Scott Stancell (Georgette) of Sunset; stepdaughter Kerri Dorsey (Tsawasi) of Pickens; stepson Travis Owens (Jessie) of Pickens; brother Houston “Bud” Stancell of Sunset; sister Kate Carmen of Tallahassee, Fla.; numerous nieces, nephews, and his best buddy Scutter.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents; first wife Tommie Bowie Stancell; infant son Christopher Brent Stancell.

A graveside service for Roy were held Dec. 30, 2024, at Hillcrest Memorial Park, 2410 Gentry Memorial Hwy, Pickens.

PAUL FRANCIS CLAYTON

EASLEY — Paul Francis Clayton, 39, passed away on Saturday, December 21, 2024.

Born June 10, 1985, in Tallahassee, Fla., Paul was the son of the late Jerome Lee Clayton and Betsy Joy Bender Clayton. Paul loved his family dearly and his greatest joy was being a dad. He had a very goofy personality and could make anyone smile. He enjoyed working in the asphalt industry and barbequing in his spare time.

Survivors include his children, Henley Hope Clayton and Paul Clayton, Jr. of Easley; siblings, Josh Clayton (Selena) of Easley, Abby Vickery (Darren) of Greenville, Hope Fearn (Chuck) of Greenville and Jeff Clayton of Florida; and many loving nieces and nephews.

Memorial service were held on Dec.1 31, at the chapel of Mountain View Funeral Home in Pickens.

SARAH MAE RAMEY

PICKENS — Sarah Mae Ramey, 82, passed away on Thursday, December 26, 2024, at her home, surrounded by family.

Born June 15, 1942, Greenville, Sarah was the daughter of the late Albert Mann and Lila Mae Holcombe Mann. Mrs. Ramey was of the Baptist faith. She loved her family dearly, especially her grandchildren, and enjoyed family get-togethers. She was a great logging truck driver. In her spare time, she enjoyed doing word search books. She was a great cook and made the best meatloaf, egg salad sandwiches, and potato salad.

Survivors include her daughter, Patricia Morgan of Easley; grandchildren, Cameron Morgan, Shena K. Hayes, Dakota Hayes and Autumn Hayes; siblings, Rachel Moore of Gastonia, N.C. and David Mann of Greenville; and many loving and precious nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Ramey was predeceased by her husband, Ray Ramey and her brother, Marvin Mann.

Funeral services were held on Dec. 30, at chapel of Mountain View Funeral Home in Pickens.

GEORGE D. ECKER

EASLEY — Mr. George Delbert Ecker, 79, husband of Linda Kaye Willis Ecker, went to be with his Lord and Savior Thursday, December 26, 2024.
Born in Macon County, Ill., the son of the late Lewis W. Ecker and the late Julia Flynn Ecker, Mr. Ecker was a graduate of Williston High School, Fla., and retired from Ingles. He was a member of Sanctuary of Easley Church.
Surviving, in addition to his wife of 43 years, are two sons, Timothy Ecker of Williston, Fla. and Carlton Ecker (Michelle) of Gulf Hammock, Fla.; his daughter, Mary Beville Crystal River, Fla.; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Mr. Ecker was predeceased by a sister, Gwendolyn Colson Herbst.
The family will host a memorial service at 2:30 p.m. Jan. 4, 2025 at Sanctuary of Easley Church, 112 Beacon Hill Court, Easley, SC 29640. The visitation will be from 2 p.m. until 2:25 p.m. Saturday, prior to the service at the church.
