Connie C. Gaillard
EASLEY — Mrs. Connie Chastain Gaillard, 99, wife of the late William B. “Dub” Gaillard Jr., passed away Sunday, Dec. 31, 2017.
Born in Alto, Ga., a daughter of the late Julius M. and Pearl Lee Chapman Chastain, Mrs. Gaillard was a graduate of Easley High School and a member of Park Street Baptist Church since 1953.
Surviving are two daughters, Brenda G. Mullins (Jim), and Mary E. Gaillard, all of Pickens; three granddaughters and three great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Gaillard was predeceased by a daughter, Barbara L. Bennett and her husband, Donald; two brothers, Paul and Roy Chastain; and five sisters, Mabel Watson, Ethel Lesley, Arie Gaines, Grace Fields and Nellie McGuire.
Graveside services were held Jan. 4 at Greenlawn Memorial Park, with Rev. Dr. Alton Nix officiating.

Howard Walter Hutton
EASLEY — Mr. Howard Walter Hutton, 59, husband of Janice Irving Hutton, passed away Monday, Jan. 1, 2018, at his home.
Born in Camden, N.J., a son of Howard Elmer and Virginia Wilson Hutton of Rochester Mills, Pa., Mr. Hutton received his Master of Divinity Degree from Bob Jones University and later received a Specialist Degree in Bible Doctrines from the Dallas Theological Seminary. He was a Senior ERP Analyst with Security Finance and a member of Trinity Bible Church, Greer.
Surviving, in addition to his wife of 32 years, are two daughters, Roseanne Fisher (Daniel) and Amanda Hutton; a brother, Dave Hutton; a sister, Fran Hutton-Lee; a grandson, Benjamin Fisher, and an expected grandson, Andrew Fisher; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Jan. 6 at Trinity Bible Church in Greer, with burial following in Robinson Memorial Gardens, Easley.

Carole C. Martin
GREENVILLE — Mrs. Carole Camp Martin, 70, wife of the late Houstin Martin, passed away Monday, Jan. 1, 2018.
Born in Pickens County, the daughter of the late Judy Ophelia Camp Hardin, Mrs. Martin retired from textiles and was a member of Woodside Baptist Church.
Surviving are three children, Barry Martin (Cynthia) of Central, Dana Martin (Marty White) of Greenville and Clinton Scott Camp of Easley; two stepsons, Randy and Tony Martin; three brothers, Bruce Camp of Easley, Glenn Camp of Jacksonville, N.C., and Gwynn Camp of Pickens; four grandchildren and five step-grandchildren. In addition to her husband and mother, Mrs. Martin was predeceased by a stepson, Ricky Martin.
Funeral services were held Jan. 5 at Woodside Baptist Church in Greenville, with burial following in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Doyle Heyward Nicholson
EASLEY — Mr. Doyle Heyward Nicholson, 91, husband of Lillian Bryant Nicholson, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2018, at McCall Hospice House.
Born in Pickens County, a son of the late Claude and Maude Billingsley Nicholson, Mr. Nicholson received his associate’s degree from Clemson University and retired from BB&T Bank. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in WWII, and a member of Brushy Creek Baptist Church.
Surviving, in addition to his wife of 69 years, are sons, Michael Nicholson (Sylvia) and Ron Nicholson (Sara), all of Easley; a sister, Rose Ann Albertson of Easley; four grandchildren, Bradley Nicholson (Amanda), Brian Nicholson (Sheree), Erin Nicholson Canady (Brian) and Chris Nicholson (Carolyn); and five great-grandchildren, Michael Nicholson, Caitlyn Nicholson, Ronan Canady, Reagan Nicholson and Braylon Nicholson. In addition to his parents, Mr. Nicholson was predeceased by two brothers, Earl and Harold Nicholson; and three sisters, Ruth O’Donnell, Frances Bishop and Jessie Christine Nicholson; and an infant granddaughter.
Funeral services were held Jan. 6 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown, with Rev. Dr. Jim Spencer and Rev. Rodney Graham officiating, with burial following in Greenlawn Memorial Park.

DeRilla Davis Stewart
EASLEY — DeRilla “Rilla” Davis Stewart, 96, of 202 Herringbone Run, wife of the late Lucius “Wilson” Stewart, passed away Thursday, Jan. 4, 2018, at McCall Hospice House.
Born in Pickens, Mrs. Stewart was a daughter of the late Lawrence Albert and Ina Rampey Davis. She was a homemaker, who loved cooking and sewing. Mrs. Stewart was the oldest living member of Easley First United Methodist Church, where she belonged to the Wesley Sunday School Class. She was active in her church, including the United Methodist Women. Mrs. Stewart was honored as a Paul Harris Fellow by the Easley Rotary Club, and she was a devoted member of her Garden Club.
Surviving are two daughters, Betty Stewart Ellison (Dr. Eddie Ellison) of Greenville, and Tracee Stewart Simpson of Easley; four grandchildren, Megan Ellison Carpenter (Bobby), Stewart Edwin Ellison (Beverly), Davis Anthony Simpson (Chandler), and Trent Aaron Simpson; six great-grandchildren, Zachary, Brian, Ann Stewart, and Clark Hickerson, Mac and Luci Ellison; brother-in-law, Roy Bowen of Pickens; and one sister-in-law, Beatrice Davis of Pickens. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Stewart was predeceased by one brother, Glendale “Tootie” Davis; three sisters, Janet Porter, Imogene Grant, and Marilyn Bowen; and a son-in-law, Robert Dane Simpson.
Funeral services were held Jan. 7 at Easley First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Rodney Powell officiating. Private burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.

Wanda Sue Willis
CENTRAL — Wanda Sue McCall Willis, 68, wife of Rev. Dewain G. Willis, died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2018.
Born in Pickens County, she was a daughter of the late J.R. and Bessie Pauline Rogers McCall. In addition to being a housewife, Wanda was a faithful mother and pastor’s wife. She was a member of Six Mile Church of God of Prophecy.
Surviving in addition to her husband are sons, Rev. Mack Allen (Brenda) Willis of Crossville, Tenn., and James Dewain “Jody” (Lauren) Willis of Myrtle Beach; brothers, Ed McCall of Hartwell, Ga., and Donnie McCall of Norris; and grandchildren, Allen Willis, Kimberly Headden, Mahkynzie Willis and Kamron Willis.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by brothers, Harold McCall and Lee McCall; and sisters, Gail Keen and Judy Murphy.
Funeral services were held Jan. 8 in the chapel of Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home, with burial following in the Six Mile Church of God of Prophecy cemetery.

Allen Holland
EASLEY — Ralph Allen Holland, 54, of Easley, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 7, 2018, at Oconee Memorial Hospital.
Allen was born on Dec. 26, 1963, in Johnson City, Tenn. He was a graduate of Easley High School, Class of 1981 and a graduate of Tri-County Technical College. Allen had a love for family and an immense passion for collector cars.
Surviving are his son, Alex Holland of Taylors; father, Ralph Holland (Doris) of Williamston; mother, Carol Holland of Seneca; sisters, Renee Tant (Michael) of Taylors, Michele Sheriff (James) of New Prague, Minn., and Yvonne Cobb of Easley; brother, Timothy Holland of Seneca; stepsister, Dianne Nalley (Joe) of Williamston; stepbrothers, Randy Bradberry of Temple, Texas, Toni Bradberry of Williamston, and Kelly Bradberry of Williamston; grandmother, Clessie (Ellenburg) Evans of Seneca, and several loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Allen was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Paskell and Margaret Holland, maternal grandfather, Luther Evans, and his brother, Dale Holland.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 10, at the Dillard Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Brian Terry and the Rev. Charles Holland officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery in Easley.

Roy Randolph Whitmire
PICKENS — Roy Randolph Whitmire, 83, of Pickens went to be with his Lord at his home in Pickens on Jan. 7, 2018.
Roy is the son is the late Clyde and Essie Porter Whitmire, and the husband of the late Patricia Whitmire.
Mr. Whitmire was retired from Alice manufacturing as a loom fixer and was a member of Roanoke Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Joyce Smith of Pickens; four brothers, Claude Whitmire (Mildred) of Pickens, Bobby Whitmire (Doris) of Liberty, Butch Whitmire of Central and Johnny Whitmire (Betty) of Liberty; five sisters, Gladymae Nix of Pickens, Yvonne Durham of Pickens, Kathy Young (Larry) of Pickens, Sue Farmer (Thad) of Pickens and Diane Sanderson (Fred) of Pelzer. In addition to his parents and his wife, Mr. Whitmire was predeceased by one brother, Pete Whitmire; and two sisters, Lucille Chastain and Sylvia Cantrell.
A visitation will be held at Dillard Funeral Home from 1-2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 10. A service will follow in the funeral home chapel at 2:30 p.m. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens.

Kenneth Cartee
LIBERTY — Kenneth Michael Cartee, 41, of 783 Five Forks Road, was called home Thursday, Jan. 4, 2018, at Baptist Easley Hospital.
Born in Anderson, he was the son of Barry Michael and Donna Dill Cartee of the home. Ken was a 1994 graduate of Liberty High School and worked most of his life as a carpet and tile installer. He was very talented at his work and enjoyed the opportunity to show his talent to others. Ken loved his cars and especially his friends and family. He never resisted a chance to make someone smile. He was of the Baptist faith and attended Norris First Baptist Church.
Surviving in addition to his parents are two sisters, Mary Ann Edens (Michael) of Pickens and Lisa Lollis of the home; a niece, Faris Lollis of the home; and a nephew, Logan Edens of Pickens.
A memorial service for Ken will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at Liberty Mortuary. Private inurnment at Liberty Memorial Gardens will be held at a later date.

Claire Fontaine Rice
GREENVILLE — Claire Fontaine Rice, 84, passed away peacefully Sunday, Jan. 7, 2018, surrounded by family.
She was born on Nov. 13, 1933, in Shreveport, La., to Ruby Brown and John Edward Fontaine. They moved to Beaumont, then to Houston, Texas. She graduated from Lamar High School and attended Mary Baldwin College.
On her way to Virginia for her freshman year, she stopped in Greenville to visit her aunt, Frances Allen Green, where she met the neighbor who would soon become the love of her life. She married Frank Towers Rice Sr. on June 25, 1955, celebrating over 62 years together. They began their life in Surf City, N.C., Carlisle, S.C., and Pensacola, Fla., before settling in Greenville. Claire was a kind and gentle soul, a devout Christian who committed her life to being a loving wife, caring mother and friend to many. One of Claire’s greatest joys was spending time with her family, especially hosting in Little Switzerland and Pawleys Island.
Claire was an active member of First Presbyterian Church, where she belonged to the R.N. Ward Sunday School Class and was a founding member of the Thursday Morning Prayer Group. She was a Circle Coordinator and member of many Circles, the latest being at the Foothills Community, where they resided.
Claire was a member of the Junior League, the McCoin Book Club and the Crescent Community Club. She was also a member and past president of the Fontaine Maury Society.
Claire was predeceased by her beloved parents and brother, John Edward Fontaine Jr.
She was dearly loved and will be missed by her husband, Frank Towers Rice Sr.; children, Rex Fontaine Rice (Ruth), Frank Towers Rice Jr. (Kathryn), and Ruth Rice Bierbaum (Clark); grandchildren, Toni Ruth Rice, Meredith Fontaine Rice, John Towers Rice, Daniel Allen Rice, David William Rice (Chandler), Kathryn Jane Rice, Claire Kelly Bonnell and John Fontaine Bonnell.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 12, at First Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends from 9:30-10:45 a.m. Friday in the church parlor. A private burial will follow at Springwood Cemetery.
Escort of Honor will be the R.N. Ward Sunday School Class.
Her family would like to thank the staff of the Foothills Community and Lutheran Hospice for their support, love and care for Claire.
