Zealy Mae Howard

Pickens — Zealy Mae McJunkins Howard, 89, widow of James Charles Howard, passed from this life on Monday, Jan. 23, 2017.

Mrs. Howard was born in Pickens County a daughter of the late William Otis and Mary Melissa Masters McJunkins. She was a homemaker and a member of New Hope Baptist Church.

Survivors include her daughter, Cathy Moses of Cleveland; sons, Ronnie Howard of Six Mile, Marvin Howard of Marietta, Mitchell Howard, Bobby Joe Howard, Steve Howard, and Teddy Howard all of Pickens; 17 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Howard was preceded in death by a daughter, Zealy Mae Howard, granddaughter, Tammy Thomas, brothers, Ford McJunkins, Rudolph McJunkins, Floyd McJunkins, Cleve McJunkins and Clarence McJunkins, and sisters, Martha Reynolds and Nathalee McJunkins.

The family will receive friends from 2:30-4 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 26, in the fellowship building of New Hope Baptist Church with funeral services following at 4 p.m. in the church sanctuary with The Reverend Justin Anderson and The Reverend Bo Moses officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Cole Blease Hendricks Jr

Belton — Cole Blease Hendricks Jr., 69, husband of the late Brenda Hendricks went to be with the Lord Saturday, Jan. 21, 2017.

Mr. Hendricks was born in Detroit, Michigan, and son of the late Cole Blease Hendricks Sr. and Jane Hendricks.

Mr. Hendricks was in the information technology department at Electrolux and a member of Eureka Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon.

Survivors include one son, Jerry Hendricks of Anderson; one sister, Betty Coolie of Anderson; one brother, Clarence Hendricks of Washington; and seven grandchildren, Elisha Hendricks of North Charleston, Kayla Hendricks of Anderson, Farah Doucet (Ryan) of Kings Mountain, N.C., Samantha Hendricks of Anderson, Tyler Hendricks of Anderson, Jerry Hendricks Jr. of Anderson, and Logan Hendricks of Anderson. Great-grandchildren include Brianna Hendricks and Star Doucet. Mr. Hendricks was predeceased by a son, Tim Hendricks; a daughter, Tina Hendricks; and three brothers, Dale Hendricks, Clyde Hendricks and Paul Hendricks.

Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 27, at Oolenoy Baptist Church. Service will follow at 11 a.m. in the church.

Anne Brown

Easley — Alice Anne Kelley Brown, born Oct. 21, 1927, died Jan. 21, 2017.

Anne was a graduate of Winthrop University and Columbia Presbyterian Seminary. She was a director of Christian education at Aveleigh Presbyterian Church in Newberry. Later she was devoted to a career as a certified medical assistant. She held offices on the local, state and national levels. She was a trustee of the American Association of Medical Assistants.

Anne had a deep love for animals and was a founding member of the Pickens County Humane Society and Animal Shelter. She volunteered in every capacity.

She was predeceased by her parents, Sybil Chamblin and Lee Jones Kelley; her husband, Drennan H. Brown, DDS; her aunts Sallie Mae Chamblin Catherwood, Irene Chamblin Rankin, Cornelia Kelley Chalmers, Ruth Kelley Chatham Kelley, Edwina Kelley Wilson, and Ovalyn Kelley Lathem; and her uncle David L. Chamblin. Also, predeceasing her were cousins Walter Eugene Rankin, Jr, Hayne K. Chatham, and Rae Chatham Seibert, Cherylyn C. Curl, Edwin Lathem, and Carol Kay Tomaras. She is survived by cousins, Edna Catherwood and Mark A. Kay and their son David A. Kay; Walter Eugene Rankin III, Libbie Jayne Rankin Hamilton, and Laura Ann Rankin Phillips; Jane Rankin McPhail and her children John S. McPhail, Jr. and Kelly Ryan; Mara Ann Chamblin and James L. Leverett and their children Elizabeth Leigh, Mara Lyn, Jaime Lauren, and Kelly Laura Leverett; Elizabeth L. Chamblin; Suzanne C. Sanders; Karen Elrod; and Beth Bigelow.

A graveside service for the family will be held Wednesday, Jan. 25, at noon at Westview Cemetery in Liberty, followed by a memorial service at Foothills Presbyterian Community, 205 Bud Nalley Drive in Easley at 2 p.m.

Johnny C. Turpin

Easley — Mr. John “Johnny” Calvin Turpin Jr., 70, passed away Saturday, Jan. 21, 2017, at his home.

Born in Pickens County, the son of the late John Calvin Turpin Sr. and the late Mary Elizabeth Derrick Turpin, Mr. Turpin was a graduate of Daniel High School and retired from Steel Heddle. He was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are two daughters, Tamela “Wendy” McClellan (Hugh) of Easley, and Angela “Chris” Allen (Mark) of Central; his former wife, Sandra L. Turpin; four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and one great-grandchild on the way.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 25, in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial park. The family will receive friends from 12:30-1:45 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home prior to the service.

Family members are at their respective homes. Memorials may be made to the animal rescue of one’s choice.

Lisa Renee Trotter

PICKENS — Lisa Renee Trotter of Pickens went home to be with the Lord on Jan. 15, 2017, after a year-long battle of heart problems.

She was the daughter of the late Ben Hagood Trotter, and her mother is Thalia Cooper of Pickens. She is also survived by sisters, Deborah (Derrill) Mann, Sandra Thomasson, Teresa Banks, Jere (Calvin) Chappell, Patsy Cannon, and Jo Holcombe. She is survived by brothers Donald (Marie) Swanson, Melvin Swanson, Ben (Wilma) Trotter, Stanley (Donna) Trotter, Chris (Brittany) Moss. She was predeceased by a sister, Martha McCall, and a brother, Wayne Moss.

She had no children, but had a dog that she loved like a child and took her everywhere she went. Her name is Baby. She was last employed at Liberty Denim.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, at Hillcrest.

Cremation Society of South Carolina-Westville Funerals is assisting the family.

 

Deborah Sue Garrett Grimes Mcpherson

EASLEY — Deborah Sue Garrett Grimes McPherson, 60, of Liberty, went to be with the Lord on Monday, Jan. 16, 2017.

She is survived by her husband, Charles McPherson; her daughter, Eugenia Grimes; her step-son, Jason; her step-daughter, Leslie Reyes; her sister, Judy Taylor; and her eight grandchildren.

Deborah was preceded in death by her father and mother, William Garrett and Elsie Garrett Powell.

She was a faithful member of Cateechee Baptist Church.

Services were held Jan. 21 at Cateechee Baptist Church.

Betty N. Dickard

Liberty — Betty Naomi Ross Dickard, 75, wife for 57 years to Don V. Dickard died Monday, Jan. 16, 2017, at her home in Liberty.

Born in Pickens County, she was a daughter of the late J.B. and Brodie Ables Ross. She was a retired employee with the Pickens County School District. She and her husband enjoyed farming and was a member of Flat Rock Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to her husband are a daughter, Sandra (Clifford) Nabors of Liberty; son, Joey Dickard of Liberty; sisters, Florence O’Neal and Pauline Gilstrap both of Norris; grandchildren, Brandy (Koty) Porter, Bret (Tiffany) Nabors and Adam Dickard; and five great-grandchildren, Savannah Porter, Madison Nabors, Brooklyn Nabors, Blakelee Porter and Braydon Dickard In addition to her parents, she predeceased by a brother, Jack Ross; and sisters, Inez Bryant, Louise Bates, Frances Chapman and Joyce Johnston.

Services were held Jan. 19 in the chapel of Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home, with burial following in Liberty Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers were Chip Bryant, Brian, Richard and Christopher Chapman, Barry Durham, Jeffrey Johnston, and Donnie, Jimmy and Phillip O’Neal.

Ken Martin

Liberty — Kenneth E. Martin, 59, of Liberty, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2017, at his home.

Born in Laurens, he was a son of the late Arthur James Martin. He was the co-owner of Celestial Flowers for the past 16 years.

He is survived by his partner of 31 years, Alan Rothell of the home; his mother, Savannah Martin of Ware Shoals, and a sister, Elaine Phillips of Ware Shoals, and his beloved dog, Powder.

A memorial was held Jan. 19 at Liberty Mortuary.

Elmer Dean Duncan

EASLEY — Elmer Dean Duncan, 97, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, Jan. 14, 2017, at his home.

Born in Six Mile on Dec. 1, 1919, he was the son of the late Esley Mack and Hattie Nix Duncan. Mr. Duncan was a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church in Easley and served in the U.S. Army in Europe during WWII as sergeant in the 725 Field Artillery Battalion.

Surviving are his two sons, Randy D. Duncan (Kathie) of Hickory, N.C. and Eddie R. Duncan of Maiden, N.C.; a special friend, Lillian Stewart; one brother, Calvin Duncan (Ruth); two sisters, Eloise Haire and Frances Greene; two sisters-in-law, Martha Duncan and Willie Grace Duncan, and many loving nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents, Mr. Duncan was predeceased by one son, David M. Duncan; one sister and six brothers.

Funeral services were held Jan. 21 at Dillard Funeral Home Chapel, with Dr. David Gallamore officiating and burial following at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens.

Brady Benjamin Presley

Easley — Brady Benjamin Presley, 89, son of the late Fulton and Lillie Mae Presley, went to be with the Lord Sunday, Jan. 15, 2017.

Mr. Presley was born in Belmont, N.C.

Mr. Presley was the owner of Brady Mobile Home Service and a member of Life Church in Dacusville.

Survivors include one son, Brady Presley of Easley; three daughters, Cecile Presley of Mauldin, Kim Presley of Easley and Shana Owens (Lionel) of Easley; seven grandchildren, Nicole Presley of Easley, Melissa Fuentes of Greenville, Jonathan Presley of Easley, Dedra Reece of Easley, Barrett Owens of Easley and Anna Grace Owens of Easley. Mr. Presley also leaves in his memory eight great-grandchildren.

Mr. Presley was predeceased by his wife, Jean Presley, and his son, Benji Reynolds.

Services were held Jan. 18 at Dillard Funeral Home.

James D. Anderson (MSGT. Ret.)

Easley — Mr. James Donald Anderson, 76, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2017.

Born in Columbia, the son of the late General Washington Anderson and the late Martha Henson Anderson, Mr. Anderson was a site coordinator with E.B.S. and of the Baptist faith. He was a retired U.S. Air Force veteran with 20 years of service.

Surviving are two sons, Mark Anderson of Kansas City, Mo., and Chuck Anderson (Christine) of Easley; a sister, Mary Priscilla Bowie of Liberty; and four grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Mr. Anderson was predeceased by two brothers, Lewis and Charles Anderson.

Funeral services were held Jan. 20 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home, with Rev. Brian Holder officiating and burial following in Greenlawn Memorial Park with military honors.

Evelyn Ilona Radi

EASLEY — Evelyn Ilona Radi, 53, of Easley, passed away on Monday, Jan. 16, 2017.

She was born in Miami, Fla., to Gabe Radi and Judith Radi.

She is survived by her children, Frank Radi and Jennifer Beardslee Radi; her daughter-in-law, Shelley Herron; her grandchildren, Frank Peter Radi, Tyler James Radi, Rayna Herron-Radi and Jayla Herron; and her significant other of 15 years, Richard Desloge.

She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Kayla Emily Radi; and her mother, Judith Radi.

The family will hold a memorial service at a later date.

Ruby Ann Dover

Travelers Rest —Ruby Ann Dover, 78, daughter of the late Homer and Ann Barker, went to be with her Lord Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2017.

Mrs. Dover was born in Pickens County, where she worked for Ryobi in the assembly area and was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. Mrs. Dover was also previous resident of Table Rock area.

Survivors include three sons, Wayne Burgess of Travelers Rest, Ronnie Burgess of Pickens County and Leonard Guthery of Greenville; three sisters, Joyce Cantrell of Spartanburg, Helen Roper of Easley and Linda Moses of Walterboro; and a brother, Ricky Reece of Pickens. Mrs. Dover also leaves four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren to share in her memory. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Dover was predeceased by three brothers, Gary Barker, Earl Barker and Howard Barker.

A graveside service was held Jan. 21 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

William F. Albertson

Six Mile — William Franklin Albertson, 62, of Six Mile Heights Road, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2017.

Born in Greenville County, he was the son of the late Dock Franklin Albertson and Louise Gillespie Albertson.

William was retired from Ryobi in Pickens. He loved fishing, camping and all western movies and television shows.

Surviving are a son, Daniel Levi Albertson of Cateechee; and sisters, his twin Mary Woodall (Paul) of Six Mile and Joyce Rampey (Jim) of Liberty.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by an infant son, William Franklin Albertson Jr.

Funeral services were held Jan. 21 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown, with burial following in Hillcrest Memorial Park in Pickens.

Jimmye James

Easley — Mrs. Vivian “Jimmye” Porter James, 86, wife of William Thomas James, passed away Friday, Jan. 20, 2017.

Born in Greenville County, a daughter of the late Waymon Hoyet and Pearl Lanning Porter, Mrs. James grew up in Greenville and Spartanburg and graduated from Welcome High School, where she met her husband in their senior year. She worked for Liberty Life Insurance for several years and the U.S. government for many years as a budget analyst where she retired in August 1989.

Surviving, in addition to her husband to whom she celebrated 67 years of marriage on Feb. 18, are a son, Rev. Ted Alan James (Sharon Darley) of King George, Va; a sister, Brenda Porter Gartman of Casa Grande, Ariz.; and two granddaughters, Katherine Marie James and Margaret Elizabeth James. In addition to her parents, Mrs. James was predeceased by two brothers, Waymon Douglas Porter and Thomas Reginald Porter.

Funeral services were held Jan. 23 at Easley First Baptist Church, with Rev. Dr. John Adams and Rev. Ted James officiating and burial following in Robinson Memorial Gardens.

Earl Jackson Ramey

Six mile — Earl Jackson Ramey, 85, of Six Mile, husband of the late Annie Jane Pelt Ramey, passed away on Jan. 12, 2017, at Cannon Memorial Hospital.

Born in Pickens County on June 9, 1931, he was the son of the late Jesse Sampson and Thessie Cornelia Chapman Ramey. He attended Missionary Baptist Church, loved his family and enjoyed life.

Surviving are two daughters, Suzanna Nash and Linda Shank; one sister, Ruby Ramey; and six grandchildren.

Along with his parents, Mr. Ramey was predeceased by two brothers, Hubert Ramey and Ray Ramey; and one sister, Azilee Blankenship.

A graveside service was held on Jan. 23 at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens, with the Rev. Danny Posey officiating.

James Wayne Masser

LIBERTY — James Wayne Masser, born April 26, 1960, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Jan. 10, 2017, in Liberty.

Originally from Sodus Point, N.Y., he lived and worked as a mechanic to many of the residents and his friends there.

After moving from New York to South Carolina in 2001, he continued his passions of working on and restoring cars and picked up restoring and repairing guns of all types. He also enjoyed the jockey lots. James was exceptionally talented with machines of all types; there was almost nothing he couldn’t fix.

In 2014, he completed his dream trip to visit the Grand Canyon and the west. Although he was unable to visit the Pueblo Cliff Villages in the Canyon because of a snowstorm, he said it was an amazing and humbling experience. He was a devoted and loving father of four women, always and forever his little girls, Jaclyn (Joe) Rodriguez, Laura (Matt) Mauldin, Amanda (Jason) Masser-VanVleck and Jamie Masser. James was also a beloved grandfather to nine grandchildren, Julie, Katie, Colton, Maddison, Gavin, Zakary, Audra, Koda and Trinity; James is survived also by his mother, Faye Sizemore of Liberty; his sister, Leah Frank-Fields; and his father, Don Masser, also of Liberty; his wife, Ellen “Betsy” Masser; his partner of 30 years, Laura DiRenzi; and his renewed companion, Chris Knauss.

James was predeceased by his brother, Don Masser Jr; three sisters, Crystal Balch, Terry Jones and Jenevieve (Jeni) Inman; his best friend, John Millon; his favorite grandfather and mentor, Elmo (Bus) Masser; his aunt, Doris Sizemore; his stepfathers, Grant Vancleaf and Clark “Ponch” Frank. He missed all of them dearly … as he will be missed by us.

Marceline D. Waters

Easley — Mrs. Marceline Darlene Keller Waters, 88, wife of Lauren Clifford Waters, went to be with Jesus Saturday, Jan. 21, 2017, at the Cottingham Hospice House in Seneca after surgery and a brief illness.

Born Feb. 16, 1928, in Muscatine, Iowa, a daughter of the late Loren and Viola Wishart Keller, Mrs. Waters retired from H&R Block and was of the Methodist faith.

Surviving, in addition to her husband of 66 years, are three sons, Larry Waters (Julie) of Easley, Rodney Waters (Lynn) of Granger, Ind., and Ed Parks (Cindy) of Bremen, Ind.; a daughter, Mary Bowling of Bremen, Ind.; two brothers, Danny and Tom Keller, both of Muscatine, Iowa; two sisters, Judy Hepker of Muscatine, Iowa, and Gloria Walker of Monmouth, Ill.; nine grandchildren, Todd Bowling, Tracy Frederick (Jared), Amy Stanley (David), Andy Parks (Carmen), A.J. Parks (Jessa), Anneka Spaid (Nick), Melanie Newton (Evan), Alex Waters, and Andy Maze (Katie) and 14 great-grandchildren, Adison and Ainsley Frederick, Jake Stanley, Contessa and Victorious Parks, Gabriella, Lillian and Griffin Parks, Cole and Carson Spaid, Hiram, Wylie and Boden Maze and Ashby Newton.

In addition to her parents Mrs. Waters was predeceased by one brother, Billy Keller; one sister, Patty Holliday; and a son-in-law, Danny Bowling.

Marceline was a kind and loving wife, and a nurturing and caring mother who loved and enjoyed life and her family.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 26, in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown, with Rev. Dr. Rodney Powell officiating. Burial will follow in Robinson Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 12:30-1:45 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home prior to the service.

The family is at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Julie Waters.

Greg Moore

Pickens — Harold Gregory “Greg” Moore, 56, of India Drive, passed away Saturday, Jan. 21, 2017.

Born in Greenville County, he was a son of Bud Moore of Easley and the late Mary Patterson Moore.

Greg was a retired truck driver. He was a member of Bible Baptist Church and was attending Lenhardt Christian Fellowship.

Surviving, in addition to his father, are a brother, Perry Moore (Lisa) of Simpsonville; a sister-in-law, Mary Moore of Easley; and 14 nieces and nephews.

Greg was predeceased by his mother, Mary Patterson Moore, and a brother, Marty Moore.

Funeral services will be held at noon on Wednesday, Jan. 25, in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown, with burial to follow at Six Mile Church of God of Prophecy in Six Mile.
