Carroll R. Hurley

Six Mile — Carroll Ray Hurley, 80, husband of Sherill Marr died Nov. 3, 2014.

Carroll was born in Bryson City, NC, son of the late Bass Lee and Ethel Seay Hurley. He was retired from Pickens County Recycling after a full working life as a Chemist with Dow Chemical, Technician with the Tega Cay Water Works near Rock Hill, Equipment Superintendant with RMI Oil Co, and as a long haul truck driver. A lifelong cowboy, he broke and trained horses for many years and traveled around the world 15 times. He was a member of the Masonic lodge in the Philippines and was a Shriner.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Sherill of the home, a son, George Hurley (Cindy) of Six Mile, and two daughters, Joyce Hurley (Roane Evans) of Bedford, VA and Lorrie Brewer (Dennis) of Lancaster, SC. Also surviving are nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Carroll was preceded in death by a son, Steven Hurley and a grandson, Paul Derrick Hiles. A celebration of his life was 3:30 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.

Carroll will be driven to his final resting place at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Pickens in his 1969 Ford, F250 Pickup truck.

Ralph H. “Pete” Johnson

Easley — Mr. Ralph Harrison “Pete” Johnson, 68, husband of Linda Cope Johnson, died Nov. 3, 2014 at his home.

Born in Anderson County, a son of the late Harrison Odell and Irene Cushman Johnson, Mr. Johnson retired from Bes-Pac and was a member of Jones Avenue Baptist Church. He was a US Army veteran having served in the Vietnam War.

Surviving, in addition to his wife of 48 years, are two daughters, Amanda J. Chastain (Jerry) of Liberty, and Amy J. Pace of Dacusville; a son, Peter Johnson of Easley; six brothers, Kenneth, Jimmy, Mike, Randy, Tony, and Dean Johnson, all of Easley; one sister, Gail Trotter of Pickens; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. In addition to his parents, Mr. Johnson was predeceased by a sister, Donna Cassell.

Funeral services were Thur., Nov. 6, at Jones Avenue Baptist Church with the Reverends Zach Shaw and Chad Campbell officiating. Burial followed in Hillcrest Memorial Park with military honors.

Glenn Link, Jr.

Easley — William “Glenn” Link, Jr., 51, of 311 Cardinal Woods Way, died Nov. 3, 2014 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

 Born in Greenville County, a son of the late Bill and Linda Crump Link, Glenn was the service manager for Air Centers of SC for twenty-four years and a member of Victory Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the US Air Force.

 Surviving are his wife, Joanna Hembree Link of the home; uncle, Eddie Coleman of Greenwood, aunt and uncle, Aubrey and Madge Adams and aunt, Grace Davis, all of Abbeville; also David and Betty Stinson, Ronnie Davis and Michael Robinson, all of Greenville. Glenn also leaves behind many beloved family members and friends. In addition to his parents, Glenn was predeceased by a brother, Danny Link.

 Funeral services were 3:30 p.m. Thurs. at Victory Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Robinson Memorial Gardens, 1425 Powdersville Road, Easley.

James Edward

“Jim” English

LIBERTY — Judge James Edward “Jim” English, 72, of 175 Denmark Drive, died Tuesday, November 4, 2014 at Baptist Easley Hospital. Born in Gastonia, NC, he was the husband of Debby Bolick English of the home and a son of the late James Edward “Red” English, Sr. and the late Margaret Parker Wilhelm. Mr. English was a Christian and not only served the Lord but he served his community in many different ways.

He served in the National Guard and later became a police officer in Liberty, Pickens and Easley. He was later appointed as the Easley Municipal Court Judge and served in that position for over 20 years. He was currently serving as a municipal judge in the City of Liberty.

Surviving in addition to his wife are four daughters, Beverly Kimsey(Gene) of Gastonia, NC, Wendy Ray(James) of Easley, Ginger Smith(Reggie) of Taylors and Angie Tessnear(Lee) of Liberty; three sisters, Linda Edwards of Belmont, NC, Barbara Gibson of Greer and Cathy Norman of Gastonia, NC; a brother, Randy Childers of Kings Mountain, NC; six grandchildren, Ashley Bowen, Sierra Kimsey, Taylor Tessnear, Emily Rose Ray, Tucker Ray and Emily Smith; and one great grandchild, Marcy Bowen.

A memorial service to honor the life of Mr. English was held Friday at 4 p.m. in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel. Inurnment at Liberty Memorial Gardens will be held at a later date.

Martha Burns

Liberty — Martha Eloise Tompkins Burns, 76, of 179 Burns Hill Road, died Wednesday, November 5, 2014 at her residence. Born in Six Mile she was the widow of Charles Austin Burns, Sr. and a daughter of the late Charles Melvin and Bessie Nicholson Tompkins.

She retired from Swirl and was a member of Pendleton Street Baptist Church.

Mrs. Burns loved to spend time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, and she was also very active with the Liberty Seniors Unlimited until it closed.

Surviving are four sons, Melvin Burns (Melissa), Sammy Burns, Phil Burns (Rita), and Mark Burns all of Liberty; a sister, Margaret Belt of Charlotte; three brothers, James Tompkins, Clarence “Shorty” Tompkins, and John Tompkins all of Easley; six grandchildren, Amanda Wood, Austin Burns, II, Ryan N. Burns, Blake Burns, Casey Burns, and Carly Burns; five great grandchildren, Davis Crowder, Connors Wood, Alexis Burns, Anna Grace Burns, and Gabriel Burns.

Funeral Services to honor the life of Mrs. Burns was 2p.m. Thur. in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel. Burial will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Lloyd Holliday

Easley — Lloyd E. Holliday, 80, of 215 Iris Drive, passed away Sunday, Nov. 9, 2014 at Heartland Healthcare.

Born in Pickens County, a son of the late Aaron and Nora Satterfield Holliday, Mr. Holliday retired from NAPA Auto Parts after forty-eight years of service and was a member of Brushy Creek Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the US Navy.

Surviving are his wife, Sara Bates Holliday of the home; two sons, Russell Holliday (Linda) and Ryan Holliday (Angie Orrell), all of Easley; a sister, Frances Atkinson (Clarence) of Six Mile; and two granddaughters, Alexandra and Hanna Holliday.

In lieu of flowers or memorials, Mr. Holliday requested that you honor him by helping a needy child or by feeding a homeless person.

Jo Ann Fincannon

Liberty — Jo Ann Lesley Fincannon, 50, wife of Melvin Carlo Fincannon, died Saturday, Nov. 8, 2014.

Jo Ann was a daughter of Charles Lesley of Six Mile and the late Dorothy Howard Owen. She was a homemaker and a Baptist. She loved sewing and quilting leaving her family many cherished items made by her hands. Jo Ann also liked to collect ceramic dogs.

Survivors include her husband of 20 years, Melvin Fincannon, of the home, daughters, Angela Galloway (Randy) of Easley and Sharon Phagan of Greer, and step-son, Rodrick Kirk Fincannon of Liberty and nine grandchildren. Also surviving are brothers, David Lesley of Liberty, Danny Lesley of Spartanburg, and a sister, Elaine Pace of Lyman.

Funeral Service was 3:30 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Burial will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens.

Florene H. Cobb

Easley — Florene Hudson Cobb, 85, formerly of Dogwood Lane, wife of the late Roy M. Cobb, died, Friday, November 7, 2014 at St. Francis Hospital.

Born in Pickens County, a daughter of the late Guy and Della Moore Hudson, Mrs. Cobb retired as a dental assistant for Dr. D.H. Brown of Liberty and was a member of Brushy Creek Baptist Church.

Surviving are two sons, Greg M. Cobb of Easley and Tony Cobb of Pickens; a daughter, Patsy Porter of Pickens; three brothers, Edward Hudson, Carroll Hudson and Jerry Hudson, all of Pickens; three sisters, Jean Tinsley, Florence Childress and Judy Stokes, all of Easley; and three grandchildren, Patricia Porter, James Porter and Trent Cobb. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Cobb was predeceased by a brother, David Elwyn Hudson.

Funeral services were 2p.m. Monday in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Mack Ross

Six Mile — Mack Andrew Ross, 80, of 204 Dan Ross Road died Friday at Baptist Easley Hospital. Born in Six Mile, he was the husband of Donna Burkhalter Ross and a son of the late James Earl and Essie Blackston Ross. He was retired from Platt Saco Lowell and was a member of King’s Grove Baptist Church. For the past 34 years he pulled the chains for the D.W. Daniel High School Lions football team.

Surviving in addition to his wife are five daughters, Sherry Ann Maw(Bruce) of Belton, Glenda Morgan of Pickens, Marcie Brooks(Wayne) of Pickens, Amy Barrett(Scott) of Lexington and Donnetta “Cricket” Welborn(Jason) of Easley; twosons, Pete Ross(Sherry) of Sunset and Berry Ross(Ray) of Okeechobee, FL; a sister, Mary “Tootsie” Grant of Six Mile; a brother, Jimmy Ross of Six Mile; 26 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; five great great grandchildren; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was predeceased by a son, Doug Ross and his wife Mary; 5 sisters; and 8 brothers.

A memorial service to honor the life of Mr. Ross was held at 3 p.m. Sunday at King’s Grove Baptist Church.

Edna Nalley Orr

EASLEY — Edna Nalley Orr, 88, of Orr Road, wife of the late Alvin Alexander Orr, passed away Thursday, Nov. 6, 2014 at Martha Franks Retirement Home.

Born in Anderson County, a daughter of the late George and Maude Derryberry Nalley, Mrs. Orr retired from Martin’s Sporting Equipment Company and was a member of Mt. Airy Baptist Church.

Surviving are a son, William Anthony “Tony” Orr (Marion) of Easley; three daughters, Linda Monroe (Barry) of Hickory Tavern, Debbie Miller of Salem and Terri Neal of Fountain Inn; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a sister and two brothers.

Funeral Services were 3 p.m. Sunday at Mt. Airy Baptist Church.

There will also be a memorial service at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Martha Franks Retirement Center in Laurens.

Carolyn Williams

Easley — Carolyn Elaine McCoy Williams, 69, of Eva Plaza, loving wife to Charles K. Williams, Sr., of Easley, died Thursday, Nov. 6, 2014, at her residence.

Mrs. Williams was born on July 25, 1945, in Sharpsburg, Maryland, to the late William Edward and Mary Elaine Marshall McCoy. She was a homemaker, and enjoyed gardening, especially taking care of her flowers. She also enjoyed card games and spending time with her family.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Williams is survived by three sons; Charles K. Williams, Jr. of Easley, Troy E. Williams and his fiancé Jennifer, of Powdersville, and Randy L. Williams and his wife Amanda, of Easley; two daughters; Tracie Smith and her fiancé Nick, and Kimberly Ann McAlister and her fiancé Marcus, all of Easley; a brother, Roger McCoy, of Maryland, and a sister; Mary Ann Eaton of Maryland. Mrs. Williams also is survived by six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Williams was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Parsons.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 9, in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home – Downtown with the Rev. Jim Workman officiating. Interment followed at Greenlawn Memorial Park.

Sheryl Darlene Black Redd

Easley — Sheryl Darlene Black Redd, 63, of Strawberry Lane, loving wife to Steve Redd, of Easley, passed away Thursday, Nov. 6, 2014 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Redd was born in Greenville, SC on January 16, 1951 to the late Joseph Franklin and Thelma Martin Black Sr. She was an assembler for St. Jude Medical, and in her free time she loved spending time with her family.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Redd is survived by a son, Stephen M. Redd (Caress), of Greenville; a daughter, Angela Redd (Melvin D. Plumley, Jr.), of Easley; a brother, Joseph Franklin Black Jr. (Betty), of Easley; and two grandchildren: Rayna Holcombe of Greenville and Mercedes Zweng of Easley. Mrs. Redd is also survived by three 4-Legged children whom she loved and cherished, Suggy, Sassy, and Duke

Funeral Services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home – Downtown with the Rev. Lawrence Keever officiating. Interment followed at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Iris Adams McCoy

Easley — Mrs. Iris Adams McCoy, 77, wife of Brad K. Brooks, died Saturday,
November 8, 2014 at her home in Crawfordville, Ga.

Born in Pickens County, a daughter of the late Monfred W. and Pauline Carlton Adams, Mrs. McCoy retired as a nursing assistant with Baptist
Easley Hospital and was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving, in addition to her husband of thirty-eight years, are two sons, Randy McCoy and Kurt Brooks; a daughter, Jenny Alexander; a sister, Gwen A. Holliday; three brothers-in-law, Richard, Vincent, and Bill Brooks; ten grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and her beloved cat, Baby. In addition to her parents, Iris was predeceased by a son, Benny Joe McCoy; two brothers, Charles and Jerry Adams; a sister, Jean Browning; two brothers-in-law, Jerry and Junior Brooks; and three sisters-in-law, Sybil Stewart, Juanita Medlock, and Marian Fowler.

Funeral Services were 2 p.m. Wednesday, November 12, in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown. Burial followed in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
