CENTRAL — Shelby Jean Terry Riggins, 73, of 132 Irvine Road, died Friday, Dec. 12, 2014, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Central, she was a daughter of the late Henry Clay and Vinnie Beatrice Bolt Terry.

She retired from Westpoint Stevens and was a member of Refuge Baptist Church for more than 50 years.

Surviving are her husband of 53 years, James M. “Curley” Riggins of the home; two daughters, Vanessa R. Parker (Russell “Pokey”) of Liberty; and Terrie Romero of Eugene, OR; a son, James M. Riggins, Jr. (Lisa) of Anderson; two brothers, Joe Terry of Central; and James Terry of Seneca; 10 grandchildren, Melissa Parker, Christopher Parker (Tiffany), Elizabeth Velez (Jonathan), Alyssa Alexander, Brice Romero (Tabitha), Carly Revis (Steven), James M. Riggins, III, Carey Haag (Greg), Katie Rampey (Joseph), and Caley Foster; 10 great grandchildren, Devin, Lucas, Ansley, Levi, Elijah, Knox, Camden, Isabella, Daniel, Calam.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two sisters, Evelyn Rochester, and Mary Lois Stewart, and three brothers, Henry Clay Jr., Oscar, and Clarence Terry.

Graveside memorial services to honor Mrs. Riggins’ life will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 17, at Refuge Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service

In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to Refuge Baptist Church, 219 Refuge Church Road Central.

Estella Merck

Easley — Mrs. Estella H. Merck, 98, wife of the late Melvin B. Merck, died Friday, Dec. 12, 2014, at her home.

Born in Pickens County, a daughter of the late Fannie Mae Hudson, Mrs. Merck retired from Baptist Easley Hospital as a CNA and was a member of St. Andrew United Methodist Church.

Surviving are two daughters, Ann Finley (Haskell), and Nancy Couch (Tom); three grandchildren, Lisa Chapman, Michelle McGuinn (Mike), and Chad Finley (Jamie); and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 15, at St. Andrew United Methodist Church. Burial followed in Greenlawn Memorial Park.

Monroe Owens

SIX MILE — Monroe Owens, 87, of Six Mile died at Greenville Memorial Hospital on Monday, Dec. 8, 2014, surrounded by loving family and friends.

Mr. Owens was born in Cherokee County in 1927 and was a retired Duke Power crane operator supervisor. He was employed for 33 years, retiring in 1984. He continued to work for Duke Power contractors for 15 years and helped build the following power plants: Cowan’s Ford, Marshall, Keowee — Jocassee, Oconee, Bad Creek, Salisbury and Cherokee.

He was a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church in Easley and the Living Word Bible Fellowship Sunday School Class.

Mr. Owens was a member of the Six Mile Masonic lodge for 50 years.

His loves included his family, NASCAR, football, working in his garden and his many pets.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Genelle Horne Owens. Daughter, Sheila Malmgren (John) and son Stanley Owens (Cindy) both of Clemson; Grandchildren Ashley Malmgren of Anderson and Kyle Patrick Owens of Clemson.

A funeral service was held at 2 p.m., Friday Dec. 12, at Rock Springs Baptist Church. Entombment followed in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Ruth Maw

CENTRAL — Lalla Ruth Maw, 80, of 620 College Street, died, on Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2014, at Majesty Health and Rehab in Easley.

Born in Central, she was a daughter of the late William John and Jessie Kelley Maw.

She retired from Southern Bell and was of the Wesleyan faith. Throughout her life, she was known as a devout caregiver, whose passion was keeping up with her friends and family, and could always be counted on to be there when someone needed her.

Ms. Maw also loved opera music, watching tennis, and she was fascinated with any and all things British.

Surviving are a brother, Ronald Maw of the home; a sister in law, Iris Lee Maw of Seneca; two nieces, Terrie Lee Collins of Greenwood, and Rachel Bush of Columbia; a nephew, Daniel Maw of Seneca.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a brother, Billy Joe Maw.

Graveside services to honor the life of Ms. Maw were held at noon on Saturday, Dec. 13, at Mt. Zion Cemetery.

Hamp Holliday

PICKENS — Jesse Hampton Holliday, 82, of Shady Grove Road, died Monday, Dec. 8, 2014, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Six Mile, he was the son of the late James Leo Holliday and Vera Catherine Bolding Holliday.

Mr. Holliday was the retired owner and operator of Holliday Body Shop. He was a member of Red Hill Baptist Church where he was a Deacon and Sunday School teacher and was a U.S. Army Veteran.

Surviving is his wife of 61 years, Ruby Keasler Holliday; two daughters, Paula Owens (Hank) of Pickens and Gina Stancil (David) of Sunset; a son, Mark Holliday (Tina) of Pickens; four grandchildren, Laura Roach of Irmo, SC, Will Roach of Easley, Justin Roach of Pickens and Jennifer Wilkins of Charlotte, N.C.; three great grandchildren, Quinn Thomas Wilkins of Charlotte, N.C., RaeLynn McKenzie Roach of Pickens and Amelia Grace Fowlkes of Irmo; two step-grandchildren, Hunter and Kendall Weeks; and a sister, Faye Aiken.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Venell Lesley, and two brothers, Thomas Holliday and Carlos Holliday.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, Dec. 10, at 3 p.m. at Red Hill Baptist Church. Burial followed in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Martha Stewart

EASLEY — Martha Stewart, 67, died, Monday, Dec. 8, 2014, at her home.

Born in Pickens County, the daughter of the late Woodrow and Tishie Norton Stewart, Martha retired from nursing and textiles, and was a member of Maranatha Baptist Church.

Surviving are four sons, Terry Logan (Cathy) of Charlotte, N.C.; Scott Logan (Melissa) of Taylors; Dale Logan (Challin) of Boca Raton, Fla.; Stephen Logan (Sandy) of Easley; one daughter, Stephanie Logan Fuller (Dennis) of Easley; one brother, Marion Stewart of Liberty; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Martha was predeceased by two brothers, J. David and Cecil W. Stewart.

Funeral services were at 1 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 11, at Roanoke Baptist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
