HELEN ELIZABETH SINGLETON

SIX MILE — Helen Elizabeth Singleton of Six Mile, wife to Richard (Dick) Harlan Singleton, passed away at age 89 on November 30, 2024.

Helen received her Bachelor of Arts in Music from Furman University in 1957. She shared her love of music with many others through a long career in music education. This included teaching in Pickens area elementary schools, private piano lessons in her home, and many years at Six Mile Elementary while simultaneously serving as organist and pianist at First Baptist Church of Pickens, First Baptist Church of Clemson, and Mount Zion United Methodist Church. While she was gifted in music, her true love was her family. She spent long summers at her beloved Edisto Beach with Dick and their six grandchildren, who affectionately called her “Hahn”. Helen and Dick were married in 1959 in Pickens and remained in Pickens County her whole life, spending her last 65 years in the Six Mile area on their farm, which came to be known as Kings Grove Stables. She spent many Friday nights at Singleton Field in the stands supporting Dick and his Daniel Lions football teams for 30 years. Helen was also well known for her amazing cooking and gracious hospitality, sharing her love for good food with all who knew her and were blessed enough to eat at her table. After they both retired from Pickens County schools, Helen and Dick split their time between their farm and Edisto Island. Helen was a faithful member of Mount Zion United Methodist Church as well as the Daughters of the American Revolution.

She is survived by her husband, Dick Singleton of Central; daughter, Betts McCombs of Fayetteville, Ark.; son, Richard Singleton (Sandra) of Six Mile; grandchildren, Caroline Motes (Joshua) of Aberdeen, N.C., Alle Castro (Greg) of Boulder, Colo., Ashton McCombs, IV of Fayetteville, Ark., Anna McCombs of Fayetteville, Ark., Corbin Singleton (Rebecca) of Greenwood, Miss. and William McCombs (Maddie) of Dallas, Texas; great-grandchildren, Isabella Motes and Aaron Motes of Aberdeen, N.C., Judge Singleton and Ellie Singleton of Greenwood, Miss. and Cooper Castro of Boulder, Colo.; brother, Mendel Stewart (Janice) of Sunset.

Helen is predeceased by her parents, Robert Clyde and Florence Stewart; brother, Robert Stewart Jr., and son-in-law, Ashton McCombs III.

A memorial service will be held on Dec. 7, at 2 p.m. at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends following the service.

ROGER HOLDER

SIX MILE — It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Roger Lee Holder, who left us peacefully on November 26, 2024, at the age of 73. Born on Feb. 5, 1951, in Seneca, he was a son of the late William A. “Bill”, Sr. and Ruby Sorrells Holder.

Roger was a proud veteran of the United States Army, having served his country during the Vietnam War. His time in service instilled in him a profound sense of duty and commitment, not only to his country but also to his family and friends.

In his quieter moments, Roger found joy in hunting and gardening, embracing the beauty of nature and the thrill of the outdoors. His love for beautiful creatures extended from the garden to the skies, where he marveled at the wildlife that graced the world around him. Family was always at the center of Roger’s life, and he took immense pride in being a father and grandfather.

He is survived by his daughter, Christy Monkus of Easley; two sons, Sam Holder (Laura) of Six Mile and Brian Holder of Six Mile; and his sister, Sandy Gillespie (Roy) of Liberty. His grandchildren, Branden and Colby Monkus and Haylee and Coralee Holder.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by four brothers, Billy, Jimmy, Jerry, and Danny Holder.

Funeral services to honor Roger’s life will be held 4 p.m. Dec. 5, at Kings Grove Baptist Church.  Burial with Military honors will follow in the churchyard.  No formal visitation is planned but his remains will lie in state prior to the service from 3 p.m. until 4 p.m. at the church.

KYLE O’NEIL MCMINN

LIBERTY — Kyle O’Neil McMinn, 33, passed away on Thursday, November 28, 2024, at his home.

Born May 14, 1991, in Greenville County, Kyle was the son of Thomas O’Neil McMinn and Vickie Elaine Woody Mosley. Kyle enjoyed listening to Country music and spending time outdoors. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and hiking. He loved his dog, Willie, and his family dearly.

In addition to his parents, Kyle is survived by two brothers, Chase Mosley of Liberty and Scottie Prince (Desiree) of Pickens; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mr. McMinn was predeceased by four brothers, Casey Prince, Christopher McMinn and twin infants.

The family will hold a celebration of life service on Dec. 14, at 3 p.m. in the sanctuary of Maranatha Baptist Church, 114 Maranatha Dr, Pickens.

BILLY EUGENE CHAPMAN

EASLEY — Billy Eugene Chapman, 86, peacefully passed away on Sunday, December 1, 2024, at Viva Senior Living in Easley, surrounded by his loving family.

Born May 31, 1938, in Oconee County, Billy was the son of the late Fields Richard Chapman and Fannie Bryant Chapman. Mr. Chapman enjoyed hunting, fishing, and working on his lawnmowers. He (Lightning) was employed with Duke Energy where he retired after 23 years.

He is survived by his daughter, Sheila Smith (Randy) of Travelers Rest; his son, Greg Chapman (Tina) of Pickens; his former wife and caregiver, Joann Chapman and her daughter, Alexis McKinney; six grandchildren, Kyndal Ryder (Josh), Mackenzie Hudson (Austin), Joanna Smith, Sydney Wike (Aaron), Cole Smith and Gracey Gassaway (Caleb); six great-grandchildren; many loving nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Chapman was predeceased by two sisters, Lillian Stewart and Genell Rochester; four brothers, Hubert Chapman, Marion Chapman, Newman Chapman and Carl Chapman. Billy was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

A funeral service will be held on Dec. 5, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Mountain View Funeral Home in Pickens. Burial will follow the service at Bethlehem Church Cemetery in Pickens.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Billy’s honor may be made to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 29621.

DORIS M. MCCALL

EASLEY — Doris Marguerite Medlin McCall, 94, of Easley, passed away Sunday, Nov. 24, 2024. She was a daughter of the late Robert and Pauline Brewer Medlin.

Marguerite retired from Synergy Gas. She was a member of Calvary Hill Baptist Church, a woman of God and loved her family and friends.

Marguerite is survived by her daughter, Lisa McCall Miller (Glenn), and her son, Joseph McCall (Melissa), both of Easley; her four sisters, Ruth Mauldin of Easley, Sarah Blackston (Tommy) of North Carolina, Dottie Ridley (Tom) of Easley and Judy Albertson (Ozell) of Abbeville; her four grandchildren, Erika McCall Sullivan (Tim), Damien McCall (Tadesha), Joshua Smith (Kyli) and Dawn Ellenburg; six great-grandchildren, Amir, Alicia and Ariana McCall, Cassidy Smith (Ethan), Isabela Owen and Logan Smith; and one great-great-grandchild, Drayton Swanger.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a son, William “Bill” Vernon McCall Jr.; and her brothers, Olin Medlin, Dennis Medlin and Harold Medlin.

Funeral services were held on Nov. 27 in the chapel at Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown. The burial took place at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Easley.

DON HAYNES

NORRIS — It’s with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Donald Wayne Haynes, a loving husband, father, brother and friend. He went to his heavenly home on Monday, Nov. 25, 2024. Born in Chesnee, he was a son of the late Clyde Samuel and Laura Cash Haynes.

A graduate of Liberty High School in 1960, Don dedicated 33 years of his life to a career with Bellsouth, showcasing commitment and diligence in every task he undertook. A man of profound integrity, he was a beacon of strength within the community, embodying the values of the Tate Masonic Lodge #292, and later as a valued member of the Liberty Masonic Lodge #235 AFM.

For 63 years, he was a steadfast member of First Baptist Church of Norris, where he shared his faith, love and devotion. He served as a deacon and a member of the properties committee for many years. He also served the Lord on numerous mission trips.

He possessed a heart full of compassion, always willing to lend a helping hand and share a lighthearted joke with those around him. His dedication to his family was unwavering, showing love that knew no bounds, especially for his grandchildren.

Don enjoyed the simple pleasures of hunting and fishing and finding joy in the beauty of nature. His legacy will forever be etched into the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 61 years, Ginger Tate Haynes; his children, Brad Haynes (Regina) and Missy Sammons (Ken); his four sisters, Barbara Jean Stewart (Randal), Rachel Harrison, Rosemary McManus (David) and Tammy Peeples (Randy); a sister-in-law, Jerry Tate; and six grandchildren, Sara Haynes, Kinsley Sammons (Blake), Breanna Spears (Connor), Luke Sammons, Aleah Haynes and Todd Sammons. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Todd Haynes; a brother, Doug Haynes (Martha); his mother-in-law, Mary Tate Zorn; and two brothers-in-law, Gamuel Tate and Bruce Harrison.

Funeral services to celebrate Don’s life were conducted Nov. 30 at First Baptist Church of Norris. He was laid to rest beside his son at Liberty Memorial Gardens.

WANDA HESTER HIGHT

EASLEY — Mrs. Wanda Hester Hight, 69, loving wife of the late David L. Hight, passed away Sunday, Nov. 24, 2024.

Born in Greenville County, she was the daughter of the late Elbert Hester and the late Almeda Holt Hester. She was a 1973 graduate of Easley High School and attended North Greenville College. She was previously employed by First Federal and was a homemaker and a member of Calvary Hill Baptist Church.

Wanda was full of life and loved music and traveling, but her greatest love was spending time with the love of her life, David, and her family. She never met a stranger, always welcoming someone with open arms.

Surviving are her daughter, Jennifer Hight Whitmore and her husband, Everette, of Greenville; and her cousins, Charlotte and Rob Darrah of Dallas, Texas, Susan Baker (John) of Augusta, Ga., and Lynsey, Ashley and Deborah Hester of Thomaston, Ga.; and a sister-in-law, Deb Shoaf of Anderson.

Funeral services were Dec. 1 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Powdersville Road.

Entombment followed at the Robinson Memorial Gardens Chapel of Reflections Mausoleum.

Active pallbearers were Richey Massey, Patrick Raines, Johnny Taylor, Gary Patterson, Chad Knight and Heath Summey.

DALE STEWART

SUNSET — Dale Stewart, 78, loving husband of 37 years to Patricia Diana McAnulty Stewart, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 28, 2024, at his home, surrounded by family.

Born Oct. 25, 1946, in Pickens County, Dale was the son of the late Clarence Stewart and Evelyn Crowe Stewart. Dale enjoyed selling items at the flea market, mowing his yard and working on cars.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia Diana McAnulty Stewart of the home; two sons, Jacob Stewart (Kaitlyn) and Casey Stewart (Caroline Copenhaver), both of Pickens; a granddaughter, Kendyl Stewart; a sister, Norma Owens (Dale) of Pickens; and a sister-in-law, Peggy Stewart of Pickens.

In addition to his parents, Dale was predeceased by two brothers, Gary Stewart and Johnny Stewart.

ROSE L. EVATT

PICKENS — Rose L. Evatt, 82, loving wife to Jerry Tucker, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, Nov. 28, 2024, at Rainey Hospice House, surrounded by family.

Born April 14, 1942, in Oconee County, Rose was the daughter of the late Donville Benjamin Mosley and Delfie Smith Mosley. Mrs. Evatt loved to take care of her home and her family. She enjoyed cooking, traveling, and gardening. She also loved watching Christian shows on TV. She loved her family dearly, especially her grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband, Jerry Tucker of Pickens; sons, Wallace Bryant Sr. (Joyce) of Easley, Tim Bryant (Stephanie) of Pickens and Jeremy Bryant (Tina) of Cleveland; grandchildren, Wallace Jr., Jennifer, Avery, Emery, Jazmin, Lilac, Ciana, Dylan, Chloe and Chris; many great-grandchildren; sisters, Juanita Fowler and Bonnie Reece, both of Pickens; brothers, Earl Mosley (Pam), Roy Mosley (Ruth), James Mosley and Jerry Mosley, all of Pickens, and Marvin Mosley (Julie) of Rock Hill; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Evatt was predeceased by a son, Robert Bryant; a daughter, Wanda Bryant; and two brothers, Gerald Mosley and Herman Mosley.

Visitation will be held from 5-6 p.m. Dec. 4 in the chapel of Mountain View Funeral Home in Pickens, with a celebration of life service to follow at 6 p.m.

KIMBERLY BEATTIE

EASLEY — Kimberly Beattie, 52, loving wife of 34 years to Kenneth Beattie, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 28, 2024, at Baptist Easley Hospital.

Born Dec. 1, 1971, in Pickens County, Kimberly was the daughter of Ella Geneva Jackson Foster and the late John Albert Foster. Mrs. Beattie loved traveling. She also loved to rescue animals, especially dogs and cats in need.

In addition to her husband and mother, Kimberly is survived by two sisters, Teresa Lee Alverson (Steve) of Dacusville and Robin Lynette Davis (Timothy) of Powdersville; and many nieces and nephews.
