Mary Sue Cison Durham

Easley — Mary Sue Stanley Cison Durham, 72, of 109 Tanner Court, wife of the late Furman Durham, died Sunday, Feb. 9, 2014.

Born in Mitchell County, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Bob and Bell Hoilman Stanley. Mrs. Durham was retired from Alice Manufacturing and attended Wayside Baptist Church.

Surviving are her children, Joey Cison (Wanda), Michael Cison (Anna) and Anne Nations (David) all of Easley; four grandchildren, Joey Carter, Zachary Nations, Michelle Cison and Stephanie Cison; a great granddaughter, Haley Carter; and a brother, Frank Stanley of Brevard, N.C.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by three brothers, Dee, Ed and Ronnie Stanley.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, Feb. 14 at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Dillard Funeral Home with burial to follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Ann Bernadette Kovalyak

Easley — Ann Bernadette Kovalyak, age 81, wife of James Thomas Kovalyak died Wednesday Feb. 5, 2014 at her home.

Mrs. Kovalyak was born in Allegany County, Pa., a daughter of the late Anna O’Connor and Michael Halloran. Mrs. Kovalyak was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, Pickens.

Survivors include her husband, three sons; Dennis Elling and wife Peggy of Jennette, Pa., Howard Elling and wife Brenda of Pickens, Thomas Elling and wife Ronnie of Easley, seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Funeral Mass was 11 a.m. Saturday Feb. 8 at Dillard Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Easley.

Joy M. Camp

Pickens — Joy Mills Camp, 88, of Mount Tabor Church Road, died Friday, Feb. 7, 2014 after a long illness.

Born in Newberry County, she was the daughter of the late Carroll S. and Esther Taft Mills. Mrs. Camp graduated from Prosperity High School and Draughon’s Business College. She owned Poinsett General Insurance Agency in Greenville and was a member of Grace United Methodist Church.

Surviving are her children, James Camp (Delia) of Los Angeles, Calif., Thomas Camp (Debra), Peggy Bulatewicz (Kevin) and Gail Brock all of Pickens; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, June Campbell of Pickens.

Funeral services were held on Monday, Feb. 10 at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Dillard Funeral Home. Burial followed in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Union B. Bowers

Easley — Mr. Union B. Bowers, 97, husband of the late Rosa Mae Fant Bowers, died Thursday, Feb. 6, 2014 at Northwoods Senior Living and Memory Care, Sumter.

Born in Franklin County, Ga., a son of the late Will and Ethel Bennette Bowers, Mr. Bowers retired from Singer with 32 years of service, and was a member of Calvary Hill Baptist Church. He was a US Navy Veteran having served in WWII.

Surviving are a son, Robert P. Bowers, Sr. of Easley; a brother, Donnie Bowers of Six Mile; three grandchildren, Robert Preston Bowers, Jr., William Scott Bowers, and Jenifer Bowers Wilson.

In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Bowers was predeceased by a son, William A. Bowers; one brother and two sisters.

Funeral services were 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 9 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown. Burial followed in Westview Cemetery, Easley.

James L. (J.L.) Bolding

Pickens — James Lee (J.L.) Bolding, 90, of John Street, died Sunday, Feb. 9, 2014.

Born in Pickens County, he was the son of the late Samuel and Essie Lumpkin Bolding. Mr. Bolding was retired from Piedmont Industries. He was a member of East Pickens Baptist Church where he formerly served as a Deacon. He was also a US Navy Veteran of WWII and a member of the Keowee Masonic Lodge #79 A.F.M.

Surviving his is wife of 60 years Evelyn Swayngham Bolding; a son, Jonathan Lee Bolding and his wife, Kimberly of Williamston; a sister, Bobbie Pace of Pickens; and a brother, Donald Bolding of Pickens.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by three brothers, Joe, Norman and Fred Bolding; and three sisters, Betty Buckhannon, Rebecca Garrett and Edna Garrett.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 11 at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Dillard Funeral Home with burial to follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:30 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Six Mile — Gregory Alan “Greg” Patterson, 53, of 295 Gin Shoals Road, died Thursday, Feb. 6, 2014 at his home.

Born in Pickens County, he was the son of Juanita Crawford Patterson of the home and the late Haskell Patterson.

Surviving in addition to his mother is his brother, Gary Patterson of Six Mile.

Graveside services were held on Sunday, Feb. 9 at 2 p.m. in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Beatrice Chloe Reeves Johnson

Pickens — Beatrice Chloe Johnson, age 82, wife of the late Herschel Johnson, died Monday Feb. 3, 2014 at Manna Health and Rehab.

Mrs. Johnson was born in Sunset, daughter of the late Thomas and Nora Gravely Reeves. Mrs. Johnson was long time resident of Palmetto Florida and Owner of “Bea’s Cameo Beauty Salon”.

Survivors include one son; Stephen Baker wife Song of Pickens, one brother; Thomas Reeves wife Jackie of Pickens, one sister; Bernice Pilgrim husband Wayne of Liberty, three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Funeral Service was Friday, Feb. 7 at 1 p.m. in the chapel. Burial was in Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens.

Don Jones

Easley — William Donnie “Don” Jones, 72, of 625 Shefwood Drive, died on Monday, Feb. 3, 2014.

Born in Greenville County, a son of the late Beattie Garrett Jones, Sr., and the late Evelyn Hamilton Jones, Mr. Jones was in the automobile business for 45 years. His last tenure was at Toyota Of Easley where he served as equal owner, president and CEO for 27 years. Mr. Jones was a member of First Baptist Church, Easley, where he was honored to serve as assistant treasurer, deacon, the Stewardship Committee, the Mission Action Team and Trustee. He was the teacher for the Couples for Christ Sunday School Class.

Mr. Jones was a veteran of the Vietnam War having served with the US Army. Mr. Jones was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Easley for 24 years where he served as president and vice president. He organized a golf tournament which bears his name. During the 21 years of this tournament, the club raised thousands of dollars to provide Christmas for hundreds of needy children.

He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 49 years, Patsy Porter Jones; two precious daughters, Robin Jones Durham (Billy) and Kellie Jones Thorne (John), all of Easley; three beautiful granddaughters, Alexis Durham, Emily Thorne and Jordan Durham; a brother, Bobby Jones of Greer; a sister, Judy Wheeler of Easley and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Jones was predeceased by a brother, Beattie Garrett Jones.

Funeral services were 3 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church, Easley, with the Rev. Dr. John Adams officiating. Entombment followed in the Bell Tower Mausoleum of Robinson Memorial Gardens, 1425 Powdersville Road, Easley.

James Furman Ellenburg

Liberty — Rejoice with family and friends in the long life and loving memories of James Furman Ellenburg, beloved father and grandfather, who died on Feb. 5, 2014 at the Rainey Hospice House in Anderson at the age of 89.

Born in Pickens County, a son of the late Walter and Nora Bearden Ellenburg, he was a member of Concord Baptist Church. He was a Naval World War II veteran who served on the USS Randolph. He was retired from the Grinnell Sprinkler Company. Those left to cherish Papa’s memories are two sons, Gary Ellenburg (Nancy) of Liberty and Roger Ellenburg (Cynthia) of Pickens, the grandchildren, Kim Rogers (Bart), Chris Ellenburg, Juston Ellenburg (Twila), Autumn Roberts (Jim), and the great grandchildren, Madison and Chloe Ellenburg, Cole, Riley and Tara Ann Rogers, Keith, Kevin, and Benjamin Ellenburg, and Elijah and Ali Grace Roberts.

Mr. Ellenburg was also predeceased by his wife, Alberta Crowe Ellenburg, his sisters, Elva Hudson, Frances Stewart and Ellen Dorsey, and his brother, Albert Ellenburg.

Funeral services were conducted Thursday, Feb. 6 at 2 p.m. at Concord Baptist Church with the Rev. Guy Roberts and the Rev. Tommy Hayes. Burial followed at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens. His sons, grandsons, and great grandsons honored him as pallbearers. The granddaughters, great grandchildren, and daughter-in-laws served as honorary escort.

Funeral services were at Concord Baptist Church.

James Floyd Ramey

 

Liberty — James Floyd Ramey, 82, of 126 Lynchburg Circle, died Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2014 at the Rainey Hospice House.

Born in Pickens he was a son of the late John C. and Marie Sams Ramey. He was a retired building inspector with the City of Greenville. He was a member and Past Master of Bates Masonic Lodge, #189 AFM. Mr. Ramey served his country in the United States Air Force for 12 years where he was a Staff Sergeant. He was also a member of the American Legion Post # 52 in Easley.

Surviving are his wife, Rachel Lovell Ramey of the home; a daughter, Donna West and her husband Peter of Greenville; a son, Jim Ramey and his wife, Hope of Liberty; a sister, Jean Smith of Liberty; two brothers, Bruce R. Ramey of Easley and Harvey Ramey of Pickens; four grandchildren, Michael Butt, James W. Ramey, Jr., Stacey Sullivan, and Jason West; five great grandchildren.

Graveside funeral services for Mr. Ramey were Saturday, Feb. 8, 2 p.m. at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Easley.

Donna Sue H. Haisty

Clemson — Donna Sue Hunnicutt Haisty, 94, wife of the late Conrad L. Haisty died Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2014, at her home.
Mrs. Haisty was born in Cotton Plant, Ark., a daughter of the late Clarence Cleveland and Addie B. Whitley Hunnicutt.

She graduated from the University of Arkansas, and taught home economics and science in Arkansas and Florida. Mrs. Haisty was a member of Clemson United Methodist Church.

Surviving are two daughters, Donna Winchell of Clemson and Connie Miller of Atlanta, Ga.; a sister, Rebekah Smith, of Camden Ark.; four grandchildren, Emilia and Jenna Miller and Jonathan and Matthew Winchell.

In addition to her parents and husband she was predeceased by a brother, Doyne Hunnicutt, and a sister, Kathleen Green.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, Feb. 6, at 2 p.m. at Clemson United Methodist Church. Burial followed in Memory Gardens, Clemson.

A memorial service will be held in Camden, Ark., at a later date.

Easley — Mable Livingston Oswalt, 78, wife of the late Lewis Oswalt, Sr., died Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2013 at Baptist Easley Hospital.
Born in White Township, Pa., Mrs. Oswalt was a homemaker who loved knitting and crocheting.
She is survived by four sons, William, David, Michael and Ronnie Oswalt; three daughters, Mable Oswalt, Audrey Gates and Donna Oswalt; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by two sons, Lewis and Donald Oswalt; and a daughter, Nancy Oswalt.

Louise B. Mixon

Clemson — Louise Brown Mixon, longtime resident of Clemson and wife of Robert F. Mixon, died Friday morning at Lila Doyle Nursing Care Facility in Seneca.

Born in Iva she was a daughter of the late Ernest R. and Gertrude Moore Brown. She received an Associate Degree from Anderson College. Louise was retired from Clemson University where she served as a secretary in the Agronomy Department and later served as the Administrative Assistant to the Dean of Instruction in the College of Agricultural Sciences. She was an avid Clemson sports fan and along with her husband could be seen at most Clemson sporting events. She was a member of Fort Hill Presbyterian Church where she was a longtime Sunday School teacher, Youth Advisor, and a church office greeter.

Surviving in addition to her husband are a son, Greg Mixon (Melanie) of Columbia; grandchildren, Eric Mixon, Brian Mixon and Kyle Mixon.

In addition to her parents she was predeceased by a brother, Ernest R. Brown; and a sister, Alita Robinson.

Funeral services were 2:30 p.m., Monday, Feb. 10 at Fort Hill Presbyterian Church. Burial followed in Old Stone Church Cemetery.

Vera Merck

Liberty — Vera Stewart Merck, 88, of 103 Blackbottom Road, died Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2014 at Magnolias of Easley.

Born in Pickens, she was the widow of Horace Merck and a daughter of the late John Mack and Edna Clardy Stewart. She retired from Woodside Mills and was a member of Calumet Baptist Church. She loved spending time with her family, and doing arts and crafts.

Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Faye and Don Kelly of Liberty, and Susan and Jerry Bolding of Pickens; a brother, Bill Stewart of Liberty; three grandchildren and their spouses, D. Mack Kelly, Jr. and his wife Tina, Vickie Kelly Juan and her husband Agustin, and Nicholas Bolding and his wife Erica; six great grandchildren, Noah and Will Kelly, Gabbie and Sophie Juan, and Kylie and London Bolding.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters: Annabell Gilstrap, Velma Pilgrim, and Geneva Taylor, with five brothers: James, Clyde, Lester, Paul, and John Stewart.

Funeral services to honor the life of Mrs. Vera Merck were 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 9 at Calumet Baptist Church. Burial was at Westview Cemetery.
