Robert Lamar “Bo” Ramey

LIBERTY — Bo Ramey, 80, husband of Ruby Lee Nabors Ramey, passed from this life Tuesday, March 6, 2017.

Born in Oconee County, he was a son of the late Lewis and Ludy Ramey. Bo was a member of Tabor United Methodist Church, an avid golfer and a veteran of the United States Navy.

Survivors include his wife of the home; children, Tony Ramey of Westminster, Linda Moore (Dale) of Liberty, Susan Graham (Tim) of Easley, Patricia Brock of Easley and Jamie Moore of Liberty; a daughter-in-law, Cheryl Moore of Liberty; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Willie Ramey of Westminster.

Mr. Ramey was predeceased by his parents, a son, Ricky Moore, and a grandson, Kevin Brock.

Services were held March 9 in the chapel of Mountain View Funeral Home, with the Rev. Roger Gwinn officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Tabor United Methodist Church, 1943 Ireland Road, Easley, South Carolina 29640.

Edna “Madge” Locher

EASLEY — Edna Madlin “Madge” Locher, 94, of Easley, went home to be with our Lord on Monday, March 5, 2018, in her home surrounded by family and friends.

Born Jan. 23, 1924, in Waycross, Ga., she was a daughter of the late Frank and Edna Lee Tyre. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Loyd “Red” Black, and second husband, Lou Locher; brothers, Jack Tyre, Royce “Bo” Tyre and Harry Tyre; and a sister, Modesta “Dess” Kelly.

Mrs. Locher was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She loved her family and was so very proud of them all. She had a huge heart for her family, friends and church, Morning Star Independent Baptist in Easley. She was loved by all who met her and will be greatly missed.

Surviving are her brother, Billy Tyre; sisters, Betty Jo Blinson, Wanda Wagner and Patsy Ann Woods; children, Henry Black (Veronica), Grady R. Black (Kathy) and Edna Watts (Bob); grandchildren, Loyd Black, Frank Black (Pam), Kathy Hammons (John), Kim Floyd, Bobby Watts (Jennifer), Marie Black, Kenneth “Ponchie” Black (Shannon), Sammy Watts and Grady Black Jr. (Molly); great-grandchildren, Coty Black (Hayley), Dylan Black (Maiko), Michael Rogers, Alyssa Black, Justin Wood (Tasha), Tyler Wood, Tyler Rogers, Ryan Floyd, Halee Watts, Lani Black, Madeline Potter and Olivia Hammons and one on the way; great-great grandchildren, Silas and Jozie Black, Jayden and Alana Black and Kylie, Khonner and Karter Rogers; and special friends, Bleu and Janice Watkins.

The family would like to send a special thanks to her caregivers in final days, Earline Roper, Brandie Bray and Anne Marie Maroney. These ladies were very attentive to her needs and the needs of the family.

Funeral services were held March 9 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown, with burial following in Mt. Calvary Wesleyan Church in Easley.

Rev. Charlotte Anita Boyles Reid

EASLEY — The Rev. Charlotte Anita Boyles Reid, 78, wife of the Rev. Toy Inman “Sonny” Reid Jr., went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, March 3, 2018.

Born in Eustis, Fla., a daughter of the late William Clyde Boyles and the late Margaret Helm Boyles, Rev. Reid was the former associate pastor of Living Water Church and former owner of Reid and Associates Real Estate Co. She was known for an unshakable faith in the transformative power of God’s grace and her extraordinary ability to share love to all, especially to those who struggled to see how they were lovable.

Surviving, in addition to her husband of 43 years, are her five children, Randy Van Dusen (Andreia) of Easley, Laurie Burch (Jeff) of Liberty, Bill Van Dusen of Greenville, Tim Reid (Gloria) of Wellford, and Toy Inman Reid III (Henry) of Dunedin, Fla.; a sister, Kathy Oliverio of Arkansas; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Reid was predeceased by her parents and a brother, Buddy Boyles.

Funeral services were held March 8 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home on Powdersville Road in Easley, with burial following at Robinson Memorial Gardens.

 Jerry “J.D.” Wilds

EASLEY — Mr. Jerry “J.D.” Wilds, 70, husband of the late Billie Ann McIntyre Wilds, passed away Thursday, March 1, 2018, at his home.

Born in North Carolina, a son of the late Jesse and Kellie Roberts Wilds, Mr. Wilds retired from Alice Manufacturing Company and was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church.

Surviving are two sons, Jerry “J.D.” Wilds Jr. and Phillip Wayne Wilds (Kelly Gryphon), all of Easley; a brother, Roy Wilds of N.C.; and two grandchildren.

In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Wilds was predeceased by two brothers and two sisters.

Memorial services will be held at a later date.

Billie Jo Freeman

Easley — Mrs. Billie Jo Wrenn Freeman, 60, wife of Sam P. Freeman, passed away Monday, March 5, 2018, at her home.

Born in South Carolina, she was a daughter of the late Charles Lewis Wrenn and Bobbie Jean Baldwin Wrenn.

Billie Jo was a member of Lenhardt Christian Fellowship. She enjoyed drawing, painting and reading.

Surviving, in addition to her husband of 33 years, are two sons, Eric Freeman (Sara) of Anderson and Billy Freeman of Easley; a granddaughter, Joslyn Ryan; and a sister, Teresa Terry of Greenville.

Services were held March 8 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown.

Otis Franklin Richard

MARIETTA — Otis Franklin Richard, 79, passed from this life Monday, March 5, 2018, at St. Francis Hospital, Downtown.

Born in Gaston County, N.C. and raised in Arial Mill Hill in Easley, he was a son of the late Edward Washington Richard and the late Helen Richard.

Survivors include two sons, Michael O. Richard of Seneca and Edward Dean Richard of Williamston; a daughter, Anita Ann Simpson (Jack) of Pickens; grandchildren, Barbara Ann Mason (Eric), Breanna Dorothy Capps, Roger Lee Richard, Joshua Dean Richard, Dustin Mike Richard and Brianna Jones; and a great-grandchild, Leroy Carter Newsome.

Franklin was a good man and helped many in his life. He had a heart of gold, and that was reflected by his work as a volunteer with Greenville Food Pantry. He was also known to be a talented craftsman by his handy work in construction and carpentry. Franklin was also a truck driver.

Mr. Richard was predeceased by his parents, a sister Shirley Brewer, and brothers, Troy Richard, Roy Richard and Floyd Richard.

A private service will be held at a later date.

Bobbie Ann Stegall

EASLEY — Bobbie Ann Stegall, 86, passed away Tuesday, March 6, 2018, at her home.

Born in Pickens County, a daughter of the late Cull Franklin and Cleo Smith Stegall, Bobbie was a retired cleaning supervisor and of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are a sister, Marilyn Stegall Finley of Easley, and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Bobbie was predeceased by three brothers, Truman, Ronnie and Larry Stegall; and five sisters, Sarah Griffin, Juanita Jameson, Mary Alice Tucker, Melpomeny Robinson and Gloria Welborn.

Funeral services were held March 9 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown, with burial following in the Rock Springs Baptist Church cemetery.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Providence Care Hospice for the love and care they have provided for Bobbie.

 John W. Proffitt Sr.

LIBERTY — John Willis Proffitt Sr., 94, of 104 Mae St., died peacefully Friday, March 9, 2018, at his residence.

Born in Pelzer, he was the widower of Mary Frances Pratt Proffitt and a son of the late Moody Graham and Sue Burgess Proffitt. Mr. Proffitt was a U.S. Army veteran and served his country during WWII. He was retired from Vulcan Materials and a longtime member of Liberty First Baptist Church.

Surviving are a son, John W. Proffitt Jr. of the home; two daughters from a previous marriage, Debbie Villanueva of Aiken and Joni Iverson of Summerville; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Grace Callaham of Greenville and Hazel Breeding of Florida; one brother, Charles Proffitt of Greenville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by eight brothers and sisters.

Funeral services to honor the life of Mr. Proffitt were held Tuesday, March 13, at Liberty First Baptist Church.

Burial at Liberty Memorial Gardens was held privately.

The family will be at the home.

Mack Morton

HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. — Johnny Mack Morton, 61, of 1510 Hebron St., Hendersonville, N.C., died Saturday, March 10, 2018, at Elizabeth House in Flat Rock, N.C.

Mr. Morton was a son of the late John Henry and Ercel Watson Morton. He was born in Pickens County and a former resident of Liberty. He was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are a brother, Fred Dewey Morton of Hendersonville; and seven aunts, Evelyn Townsend of Easley, Frances Nix of Liberty, Anne Etter of Ware Place, Linda Galloway of Rosmond, N.C., Helen Whitmire of Oklahoma, Louise Simmons of Liberty and Carolyn Leopard of Liberty.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by three aunts, Willa Mae Pitts, Vivian Snipes and Patricia Watson; and one uncle, Lymon Watson.

All services will be private.

Crystal Louise Stokes

EASLEY — Crystal Louise Stokes, 33, passed away Friday, March 9, 2018.

Crystal loved music, fishing and spending time with her family and children.

She is survived by her father, Ricky Dean (Karin) Stokes of Easley; mother, Brenda Barker of Easley; two children, Jaylyn M. Stokes and Layla M. Stokes; a sister, Kelley M. Stokes; and a half-sister Angel Ellenburg; and many aunts and uncles.

She was predeceased by her grandparents, Alma Lousie Stokes and Betty Deloris Wilson Crowe; two uncles and one aunt; and a special friend, Israel Newton.

There will be a celebration of Crystal’s life at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 14, at Mountain View Funeral Home, with visitation starting an hour prior in the funeral home chapel at 6 p.m.

Danny Wayne Pierce

LIBERTY — Danny Wayne Pierce, 53, died Thursday March 8, 2018, at his home.

Danny was born in Waynesboro, Tenn., a son of the late Billy Dean and Virginia Mae Martin Pierce. He was a painter.

In addition to his parents, Danny was preceded in death by his brother, Mike Pierce.

Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m., Friday, March 16, in the mausoleum chapel at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens.

Wallace Haynes

PICKENS — Wallace Haynes, 79, husband of Nora Ann Gosnell Haynes, passed from this life Thursday, March 8, 2018.

Born in Oconee County, Wallace is a son of the late Ben J. and Eula Crane Haynes. He worked in textiles but is most known for his love of the jockey lot, sitting on the front porch and his time spent at Mile Creek Campground. Wallace was a Lifetime Mason and a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years of the home, daughters Dianne Adcox (Randy) of Abbeville, Wanda James (Dale) of Pickens and Darla Mann (Stanley) of Pickens; six grandchildren; four sisters; and six brothers.

Wallace was predeceased by his parents, a son, Wallace Dale Haynes, a brother and a sister.

Funeral services were held March 12 in the Mountain View Funeral Home chapel, officiated by Dr. Matt Danuser.

Margaret Irene Simmons Holder

DACUSVILLE — Margaret Irene Simmons Holder, 86, of Dacusville, widow of the late Ralph Holder, died Saturday, March 10.

She was born in Pickens, the daughter of the late Furman Oscar and Clara Irene Trotter Simmons.

She was a member of Cross Roads Baptist Church, where she taught for more than 40 years in the children’s Sunday school department. She loved children and took delight in the shaping of young lives. She was a devout Christian who lived her faith in every aspect of her life. She was known for her sweet smile and her humble spirit. Even at home, she could often be found sitting by the window reading her Bible and spending time with her Lord. She introduced a mealtime blessing to her children and grandchildren that even today is used by all members of the family and known simply as “Grandma’s blessing.”

Mrs. Holder took great pride in a job well done, and her hands were never idle. She was always cleaning up, sweeping out, polishing or waxing. She loved being outside in the sunshine and working in her yard. No shrub was safe from her shears, and she could coax grass to grow in the most barren of places.

She was retired from Southern Weaving Company and Berea First Baptist Church Child Development Center.

She is survived by her daughter, Anne Holder-McKenzie of Dacusville; and three sons, Steve Holder (Carolyn) of Lilburn, Ga., and Eric Holder (Lynne) and Chris Holder (Kellie), both of Dacusville; nine grandchildren, Danielle Parker, Matthew Holder (Shilo), Meghan Knapp (Eric), Drew Holder (Katie), Joseph McKenzie (Madison), Adam Holder (Bethany), Marlie Yon (Harry) and Jesse Holder (Katelyn), and a grandson-in-law, Brian Caldwell; 10 great-grandchildren, Jeremiah Parker (Brook), Javen McKenzie, Bryson Caldwell, Cade Holder, Gray Holder, Aura Holder, Eleanor Knapp, Mia Knapp, Ella Yon and Reid Holder; and one great-great-granddaughter, Rowan Parker. In addition, she is survived by her sisters, Jean Cox (Jimmy) and Carol Plumblee (Bennett), and her brother, Hal Simmons (Jo).

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Edith Raines, Lois McRee and Colene McAlister; her brothers, Curtis Simmons and Wayne Simmons; a granddaughter, Rebecca McKenzie; and a grandson-in-law, David Parker.

Services were held March 13 at Cross Roads Baptist Church, officiated by the Rev. Phil Henry. Her grandsons served as pallbearers. Interment followed at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Pickens.

Memorials may be made to Cross Roads Baptist Church or Pickens County Meals on Wheels. The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to Dr. David Chang of Easley Internal Medicine and to Hospice of the Upstate.
