RUTH “MARIE” ATKINS
EASLEY — Marie Atkins, 70, wife of the late Carl Atkins, passed from this life on Thursday, March 14, 2019.
Born in Pickens County, she was a daughter of the late Aurthur Robert Kelley Sr. and Artie Mae Young Kelley.
Survivors include a daughter, Tammy Atkins (Terry Marcus) of Pickens; grandchildren, Scott Marcus (Stephanie) and Angel Atkins; great-grandchildren, Nicholas Atkins, Jase Cox, Matthew Pillon, Kinsley Pillon and Dakota Atkins; sisters, Diane Miller, Linda Scroggs and Sandra McCall (Gary); and a brother, Kenneth Jack Kelley (Barbara).
Mrs. Atkins was predeceased by her husband, parents, brothers, Earl Kelley and Aurthur Kelley Jr., and sisters, Joann Clark and Clarette Barrett.
A memorial service was held on March 19 in the chapel of Mountain View Funeral Home, officiated by Rev. Dr. Boyce Whitman.

SHARON MCQUEEN COUCH
EASLEY — Sharon McQueen Couch, 46, passed away on Tuesday, March 12, 2019.
Born in Pickens County, a daughter of Lewis McWhorter of Liberty and the late Linda Ann Howard McQueen, Sharon was retired from Wilbert Plastics and was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are three sons, Joseph, Brandon and Austin McQueen; three daughters, Amanda Roncaioli, Kay Ann Couch and Jasmine Couch; a brother, Steve McQueen (Heather) of Liberty; and five grandchildren. In addition to her mother, Sharon was predeceased by a sister, Susan A. McQueen.
The family hosted a memorial service on March 15 at Bible Baptist Church.

NANCY D. SCRUGGS
SIX MILE — Nancy Duncan Scruggs, 76, wife of the late Bobby Gene Scruggs, passed from this life on Tuesday, March 12, 2019.
Mrs. Scruggs was born in Cherokee County, a daughter of the late Dexter and Nancy Scruggs Duncan. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include her daughter, Lisa Babb (Robert) of Six Mile; granddaughter, Cindi Babb of Six Mile; sister Nellie Hart of Boiling Springs; brothers, Don Duncan of Trinity, N.C., Coleman Duncan of Blacksburg and Dean Duncan of Duncan; and two great-granddaughters, Catie Morris and Kelly Morris.
Funeral services were held on March 15 in the mausoleum chapel of Hillcrest Memorial Park. Entombment followed in the mausoleum.

GARY WAYNE BAGWELL
EASLEY — Gary Wayne Bagwell, 71, husband of Patsy Freeman Bagwell, passed away on Monday, March 11, 2019, at home.
Born in Greenville, he was a son of the late George Albert and Evelyn Crum Bagwell. Mr. Bagwell enjoyed restoring old cars, and drag racing. He especially loved cooking and grilling for his family. Mr. Bagwell was a member of Arial Baptist Church. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam era.
Surviving, in addition to his wife of 52 years, are three daughters, Leigh Ann Duncan (Greg), Stacy Marie Locke and Tiffani Starr Bagwell, all of Easley; one sister, Karen Hannah (Doug) of Easley; six grandchildren, Kelsea Bagwell, Skye Grant (Benjamin), Candace Locke, Dexter Duncan (Destiny), Anthony Locke and Austin Bumgarner; and five great-grandchildren, Colby Clayton, Ansley McAlister, Grayson Duncan, Ryan McAlister and Asher Duncan.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Bagwell was predeceased by his brother, Tyrone Thompson.
Funeral services were held on March 15 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home – Downtown Easley. Burial followed in Arial United Methodist Church Cemetery.

PEGGY JO HOLCOMBE
EASLEY — Peggy Jo Holcombe, 78, of 839 Old Stagecoach Road, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 13, 2019, at Cottingham Hospice House in Seneca.
Born in Liberty, she was a daughter of the late Joseph R. and Olga Ada Sanders Holcombe. She was retired from Alice Manufacturing with 24 years of service. Peggy enjoyed fishing, but most of all she loved to spend time with her family. She was a member of Carolina Community Church.
Surviving are two daughters, Tracy Parker (Matt) of Easley and Keila Mize (Tony) of Walhalla. Also surviving are seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Lonnie Joe Lesley; three sisters, Mildred Gantt, Etheleen Gantt and Geraldine Wyatt; and six brothers, Charley, Ralph, Billy, Hayward, Edward and John Holcombe.
Funeral services to honor the life of Mrs. Holcombe were conducted on March 16 in the Liberty Mortuary chapel. Entombment followed at Liberty Memorial Gardens.

MAMIE B. THROWER
EASLEY — Mrs. Mamie Burgess Thrower, 79, wife of Rev. Charles Lee Thrower, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, March 11, 2019.
Born in York County, a daughter of the late John Ross Burgess and the late Millie Mae Settlemeyre Burgess, Mrs. Thrower was a graduate of Rock Hill High School and a homemaker. She was a member of Jones Avenue Baptist Church.
Mamie had a passion for collecting angels, but her greatest love was her grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by all.
Surviving, in addition to her husband of 61 years, are two sons, William R. Thrower (Christina) of Easley and Charles W. Thrower (Susan) of Columbia; one daughter, Mamie Melinda Thrower of Easley; two brothers, Hugh Burgess of Daniel Island and Ross Burgess of Florida; three sisters, Mary Moore of Florida, Patsy Walker of Rock Hill and Ruth Moore of Georgia; four grandchildren, Caleb Thrower (Allie), Matthew Thrower, Landon Thrower and Payden Thrower; and one great-grandchild, Bane Thrower. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Thrower was predeceased by three brothers, Floyd, Oscar and Richard Burgess.
A celebration of her life was held on March 15 at Jones Avenue Baptist Church.

LOUISE GRAVELY
PICKENS — Louise White Gravely, 85, wife of W. David Gravely died on Thursday, March 14, 2019.
Mrs. Gravely was born in Metter, Ga., a daughter of the late Leon and Cora Clifton White. She was a retired businesswoman in Pickens County and was also retired as co-owner of The Gravely Agency along with her husband, David. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and a charter member of the Cannon Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.
Survivors include her husband of 62 years, William David Gravely of the home; sons, Tommy Gravely (Debbie), Perry Gravely (Kathryn) and Bill Gravely, all of Pickens; grandchildren, Cole Edmonson, Michael Edmonson, Zak Johnson, Mitchell Gravely, Justin Gravely, Karen Gravely, Lucas Gravely and Matt Gravely; and a great-grandchild, Stafford Edmonson. She is also survived by a brother, Lee White of Tampa, Fla., and a sister, Dot DeBerry of Winder, Ga., and many nieces and nephews she loved dearly.
A memorial service to celebrate Mrs. Gravely’s life was held on March 18 at Grace United Methodist Church, with the Rev. David Taylor officiating. A gathering of friends and family followed the service at the Grace United Methodist Fellowship Hall. Entombment will be private.

VONDA MAE HOLLAND CANTRELL
PICKENS — Mrs. Vonda Mae Holland Cantrell, 85, wife of the late John C. Cantrell, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 16, 2019.
Born in Beckley, W. Va., a daughter of the late Rev. Roy B. Holland Sr. and the late Mary Rorrer Holland, Mrs. Cantrell was a current and active full-time employee of Walmart in Easley with more than 25 years of service and was of the Baptist faith.
Vonda was very energetic, having never retired due to the love of her job. She loved gardening and had quite a green thumb, but she was often found laughing while gathered at the table with friends and family playing progressive rummy. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Surviving are two sons, John C. Cantrell of Farmville, Va., and Larry G. Cantrell of Bennettsville; a daughter, Sandy Cantrell of Central; three sisters, Jackie Taylor and Connie Holland, both of Doylestown, Ohio, and Brenda Holland of Bristol, Tenn.; seven grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Cantrell was predeceased by three brothers, Norvell Holland, Vernon Holland and Roy B. Holland, Jr; and a grandson, Jason Hogue.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 20, in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

BETTY PREHN
LIBERTY — Betty Baumgartner Prehn, 88, of 106 Forest View Circle, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 16, 2019, at the Cottingham Hospice House in Seneca.
Born in Chicago, Ill., she was the widow of Don A. Prehn and a daughter of the late George and Magdalene Sommer Baumgartner.
She was retired from Walmart and was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Cynthia Olvera; two sons, Stepehn Prehn and Timothy Prehn; 16 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
She was the last survivor of her immediate family. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Michael Prehn.
Graveside memorial services will be held at M.J. Dolly Cooper State Veterans Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest beside her husband at a later date.

SARAH R. HENDRICKS
EASLEY — Sarah Ruth Blair Hendricks, 87, of Norris Avenue, passed away on Monday, March 18, 2019.
Born in Easley, she was a daughter of the late Thomas A. Blair and Lydia Roper Blair.
Ms. Hendricks was retired from Saco-Lowell in Easley. She was a member of My Fathers House Community Church and enjoyed growing flowers and spending time with her cat, Fluffy.
Surviving are her children, Edward Ballew (Dianne) of Easley and Linda Bryant Boberg of Greenville; grandchildren, Robert Gibbs (Monica), Angela Tollison and Chris Semrow; great-grandchildren, Melanie, Allie, Brailyn, Chloe and Kairo; sisters, Jane Seay (Jerry) of Easley and Janice Thrift (Ray) of Pickens; and a brother, Grady A. Blair (Dot) of Pickens.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a daughter, Phyllis Elaine Bryant Semrow; and a brother, Harold Blair.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 22, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown, with burial to follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Flowers will be accepted.

JAMES HIPP
EASLEY — James Harold Hipp, 78, of 135 Star View St., passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 17, 2019, at his home.
Born in Tigerville, he was a son of the late Jesse and Edna Hannon Hipp. He was retired from Saco Lowell and was a member of Arial Baptist Church. During his free time he enjoyed carpentry and wood working.
Mr. Hipp was a United States Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War.
Surviving are four daughters, Diane Ballew (Edward), Teresa Talley (Perry) and Tammy Hipp, all of Easley, and Sandra Plumier (Nick) of Hayesville, N.C.; two sisters, Ruth Nalley and Martha Freeman, both of Easley; two brothers, Kenneth Hipp of Easley and Ronnie Hipp of Travelers Rest; two grandchildren, Michael McAlister and Jesse Plumier; and a great-granddaughter, Amira McAlister.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Mull; two brothers, Edgar and Major Hipp; and two grandchildren, Wade and Nathaniel Plumier.
The family will hold memorial services for Mr. Hipp at 3 p.m. on Thursday, March 21, at Tabor United Methodist Church.

EASLEY — Mrs. Lou Ellen Jones Manley, 92, wife of the late Clyde Manley, passed away on Monday, March 18, 2019.
Born in Pickens County, a daughter of the late Henry and Bessie Jones Jones, Mrs. Manley was a homemaker and a member of United Wesleyan Church.
Surviving are two sons, Steve Holcombe and Mike Holcombe (Sue), all of Easley; two daughters, Janice Baxter (Mike) of Pickens, and Tammy Batson (Loren) of Greer; six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and 18 great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Manley was predeceased by a brother, Larry Jones, and a sister, Elise Jones Alexander.
The family will host a memorial service at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, March 20, at United Wesleyan Church in Easley.
