BETTY D. HOOD

GREENVILLE — Betty Davis Hood, 93, passed away on March 15, 2024.

Born on Oct. 1, 1930, she was a daughter of the late Clarence and Edna Watson Davis.

Betty was known for her sweet personality and kind heart that touched the lives of many around her. She graduated from Liberty High School in the class of ‘49, where she was voted Class

Betty also found joy in dancing and enjoying life. She was a poll manager for the county, and she also was a Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star Monaghan Chapter.

Betty is survived by her grandson; her cousin, Carol Stancil (Rachel) of Pendleton; and a special friend, Roy Watkins of Greenville.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, James Buddy Hood; their son, Danny Hood; and her parents, Clarence and Edna Watson Davis.

A graveside service to honor and celebrate Betty’s life was held on March 18 at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Pickens.

ANDREW ‘ROOTER’ ROOT

HANNAWA FALLS — Andrew ‘Rooter’ Root has passed March 8, 2024, at his home in Pickens, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Potsdam to Lloyd (Red) and Lucy Root he was reared in Hannawa Falls where he met and married his soul mate Valerie (Fraser) in Aug., 1991.

He was a formidable river rat and relished his time and subsequent visits to summer camp with family and friends.

They eventually relocated to Pickens, where they shared many happy years.

Andy enjoyed nothing more than relaxing on his front porch after a dip in the pool, in company of his dogs, watching NASCAR as an avid fan.

He will be greatly missed.

Along with his parents, he is predeceased by his oldest brother, Douglas.

He is survived by his wife, Valerie; a sister, Kathy (Jeff) Demo of West Parishville, NY; brothers, Ken (Conny) of Endicott, NY and Kevin (Daphne) of Black River, NY; a granddaughter, Journey Fraser; several nieces and nephews and a gaggle of cousins.

A private service shall be conducted at a later date.

May he now rest peacefully.

ROBERT DEWAYNE O’BRYANT

PICKENS — Robert Dewayne O’Bryant, 52, passed away on Monday, March 11, 2024, at his home.

Born March 23, 1971, in Pickens County, Robert was the son of the late Bill Monroe O’Bryant and Ruth Virginia Eddleman O’Bryant. Mr. O’Bryant was raised on a dairy farm and worked for Alice Manufacturing. He was very crafty and could build anything out of nothing. His favorite hobby was rebuilding and fixing vehicles.

Survivors include his children, Austin O’Bryant, Tessa-May O’Bryant and Harley O’Bryant; siblings, David O’Bryant (Robin), Roger O’Bryant (Karen) and Billy O’Bryant (Michelle); and several nieces and nephews.

The family held a memorial service on March 16 in the sanctuary of Gap Hill Baptist Church in Six Mile. Flowers will be accepted.

    NORVAL LLOYD HARDY

PICKENS — Dr. Norval Lloyd Hardy, 94, loving husband of 64 years to Betty Onion Hardy, passed away on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, at his home.

Born Aug. 9, 1929, in Kansas, Norval was the son of the late Dr. Clarence Hardy and Marcelia Woodworth Hardy.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Hardy of the home; children, Mel Hardy (Deedree Kustich) of Oregon, Norval Hardy (Jean) of Easley, Norayne Hardy of Pickens and Noreva Humphrey of Mauldin; grandchildren, Amber (Aaron), Andrea (Jaron), Kandi (Christopher), Amelia (Dustin), Hillary, Aaron (Cierra), Dylan, Bailey, Cydney and Eva; great-grandchildren, Hayden, Wesson, Bella, Emma, Lydia, Kali, Kylie, Carter, Vega, Jace, Cooper, Dominic and Casen; and siblings, Beverly, Vereta (Cleon) and Donna.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Hardy was predeceased by a daughter, Norlynn, and a brother, Dr. Lyle.

A gathering of family and friends took place on March 18 in the sanctuary of Mount Carmel Baptist Church, 1623 Hester Store Road, Easley, SC 29640.

PICKENS — Foy Allen Trantham Sr., 76, loving husband of 56 years to Jane Holliday Trantham, passed away on Thursday, March 14, 2024, at Condor Health Nursing Home in Anderson.

Born March 25, 1947, in Asheville, Foy was the son of the late Grady Franklin Trantham and Edith Earwood Trantham.

Survivors include his wife, Jane Trantham of the home; children, Foy Allen Trantham Jr. (Sherri) of Pickens and Jannifer Trantham Kelley (Jason) of Liberty; and grandchildren, Amberly, Anthony, Heather and Alexander.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Trantham was predeceased by a brother and two sisters.

A graveside service was held at West View Cemetery in Liberty on March 19.

CATHERINE PATTERSON

PICKENS — The world has lost a kind soul, as we announce the passing of Catherine Riggins Patterson, 76, on March 15, 2024, following an extended illness.

Born on Oct. 18, 1947, in Six Mile, to the late George and Ressie Dodson Riggins, Catherine leaves behind a legacy of love and compassion that will forever be cherished by her family and friends.

Catherine dedicated her life to serving others as a certified nursing assistant at Rosemond. Her caring nature touched the lives of many, and her commitment to helping those in need was truly remarkable.

Catherine’s love for her family knew no bounds. She leaves behind her beloved husband, Robert K. Patterson. They had been together for more than 53 years. She also leaves behind her adoring children, Travis Patterson (Amy), Cindy Hall and Diane McCall (Lee); and sisters, Lucille McCollum, Avenell Hendricks and Sarah Trotter. She was blessed to have eight grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Lisa Cooper; a sister, Elizabeth Young; a brother, Charles Riggins; and a grandson, Robert Luke Patterson.

In her free time, Catherine found joy in cheering on her Clemson Tiger football team and showering affection on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her radiant smile and warm presence will forever be missed by all those who had the pleasure of knowing her.

To celebrate Catherine’s life, a graveside service was held March 19 at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Although Catherine may no longer be with us in person, her spirit will live on through the memories and love she shared with everyone she met. May she rest in peace, knowing she made a profound impact on all who had the privilege of knowing her.

BILLY ROSS RICHARDSON

LIBERTY — Billy Ross Richardson, 83, of Liberty, passed away on March 16, 2024.

He was the loving husband of 63 years to Dorothy Richardson and the son of the late John Ross Richardson and the late Helen Johnson Richardson.

Billy enjoyed hunting rabbits, catching frogs and fishing. One of his loves in life was a bologna sandwich, a Coca-Cola and an oatmeal pie. Many things he loved to do were cut short because of his dementia. He loved to make people laugh, and they enjoyed his humor. He was the life of the party. He loved singing and dancing with great-grandkids. During the past few years, he grew closer to God and would pray constantly. He became humble and had such a sweet spirit.

Mr. Richardson is survived by his wife; daughter, Teressa Stewart (Dan) of Norris; grandchildren, Jennifer Martin, Shane Powell (Laighnell), Kylie Alexander and Erin Nalley (Ryan); great-grandchildren, Solomon McLatchy, Cora Gantt, Waylon Gantt, Reagan Gantt, Banks and Eli; and sisters, Evelyn Corn and Sue Bolding.

In addition to his parents, Billy was predeceased by a daughter, Cindy Marchbanks; and siblings, Ann Vondersmith, Jim Richardson, Dan Richardson and Sandra Smith.

Visitation will be held from 1-2 p.m. March 20 in the chapel of Mountain View Funeral Home in Pickens, with a memorial service to follow at 2 p.m.

BEATRICE MOORE

LIBERTY — Beatrice Lewis “Bea” Moore, a beloved mother and beautician, passed away on March 12, 2024, at her residence. Born on Jan. 24, 1932, in Fair Play, she was the widow to Robert B. “Bob” Moore and a daughter of the late Dewitt and Bertha Stancil Lewis. Bea touched the lives of many through her work at Bea’s Beauty Shop. She was a dedicated member of her community and a cherished member of Easley First Pentecostal Church.

Bea will always be remembered for her love of family, her warmth, and her passion for making others feel beautiful. She was a proud mother to her daughter, Linda Rampey and her husband, Ken and son, Dale Cox and his wife Gwen, as well as a doting grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother to a large and loving family.

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family and was the matriarch of five generations five different times within her family.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Peggy Cox Bannister; a sister, Susie Rholetter and a brother, R.M. Fuller.

BILLIE E. KINARD

EASLEY — Billie Elmore Kinard, 85, a cherished daughter, devoted wife, loving mother, and adoring grandmother, passed away on March 10, 2024.

She was born to James L. and Wilhemina C. Elmore on May 18, 1938.

Billie shared 60 beautiful years of marriage with her beloved husband, Frank D. Kinard. On Feb. 28, 2024, they celebrated their diamond anniversary, a testament to the enduring love and commitment they shared.

For 55 years, Billie called the Brushy Creek community on Pineview Drive in Easley her home. Later, she returned to her hometown of Anderson to reside at Dominion Senior Living on North Highway 81.

A steadfast member of Brushy Creek Baptist Church for 57 years, Billie’s commitment to her faith was evident in her 30-year service in the preschool department, where she worked alongside other dedicated women. Together with Frank, she served on the Compassion Team, embodying the values of love and service.

Billie is survived by her loving husband, Frank; and two sons, Brad Nixon (Kristin) and Michael Kinard (Lori). She leaves behind cherished memories for her four grandchildren, Bradley Nixon and James, Lorianne and Michaela Kinard. Additionally, she is survived by her sister-in-law, Rachel F. Elmore, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James L. and Wilhemina C. Elmore; her brother, James (Jack) Elmore; sister, Sydney E. Stephens; and brother-in-law, Charles Stephens.

Billie dedicated 35 years of her life working at Mt. Vernon Mills (Pamplin and Co.), leaving a lasting impact on her colleagues and community.

A service to celebrate Billie’s life was held March 16 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown. Burial followed at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Pickens.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorials be sent to Brushy Creek Baptist Church at 100 Clay St., Easley, SC 29642, or to Hospice of the Upstate at 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 29621.

As a focal point of Billie’s life, the family has chosen Psalm 100 to serve as a guiding light during this time of remembrance and reflection.

“Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands. Serve the Lord with gladness: come before his presence with singing. Know ye that the Lord he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name. For the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting, and his truth endureth to all generations.”

SIX MILE — Furman Duncan, 65, of Six Mile, passed away on Saturday, March 2, 2024.

Furman was born to the late Eugene “Gene” Duncan and May Monroe Duncan.

Furman was preceded in death by his parents, Susie Duncan, Rickey Duncan and Bobby Duncan. He was the last living member of his family.

A graveside service for Furman will be held at 2 p.m. March 21 at Hillcrest Memorial Park, 2410 Gentry Memorial Highway, Pickens.

RANDALL A. ‘RANDY’ DAVENPORT (TANT)

LIBERTY — Randall A. “Randy” Davenport (Tant), 66, passed away on Sunday, March 10, 2024.

Born Oct. 17, 1957, in Greenville County, Randy was the son of the late O’Brian Davenport and Mildred Simmons, and he was raised by the late Jessie James Tant and Louise E. Tant. Randy was an avid golfer and Clemson Tigers football fan.

Survivors include his son, Shane Davenport of Augusta, Ga.; his significant other, Ginger Lynne Owens; siblings, Rickie Marchbanks (Laurel) and Robbie Marchbanks (Lisa); and former spouse, Denise Renee Lessard.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Randy’s honor may be made to any charity of choice.

A celebration of life for Randy was held on March 15 in the sanctuary of Elljean Baptist Church in Easley.
