Dorothy M. Davis
Marietta — Mrs. Dorothy Marie McCain Davis, 90, wife of the late Ellis Howard Davis, Sr., died Monday, Feb., 24, 2014 at her home.
Born in Ohio, a daughter of the late Harvey and Clara Chichester McCain, Mrs. Davis was a homemaker and a member of Friendship Baptist Church, Marietta.
Surviving are eight sons, John Morgan (Ruby), Harvey Morgan (Sandy), Ellis H. Davis, Jr., Joe Davis (Sweetie), Charles Davis (Elizabeth), Michael Davis (Rita), Bruce Davis, and Richard Davis; one daughter, Judy Finley (Greg); 28 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Davis was predeceased by a son, Elmer Davis; a daughter, Marcella Curry; and three daughters-in-law, Margaret and Christa Morgan, and Montez Davis. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Funeral services were 11 a.m. Saturday, March 1 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown. Entombment followed in the Hillcrest Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Laura M. Stevenson
Clemson — Laura Martin Newman Stevenson of The Downs in Clemson, SC and formerly of 232 Pendleton Road, Clemson died Feb. 25, 2014 at age 98.
She was born in Anderson on July 1, 1915 to Fred Furman and Ona Mears Martin of Pendleton. She graduated from Lander College and Clemson University. She was a retired teacher from Morrison Elementary and taught school 30 years. She was a member of Pendleton United Methodist Church. She was first married to Burrell Franklin Newman of McBee, who was killed while flying a B-17 Bomber over Germany in WWII. She later married Brownie Stevenson of Clemson.
She is survived by two sons; Leon Boyd Newman (Linda) of Sunset and Quincy B. Newman of Clemson; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were 3 p.m., Sunday at Old Stone Church Cemetery, Clemson.

Annie “Dot” Cartee
Easley — Annie Dorothy Hall Cartee (Dot), 82, of Easley, died early Wednesday morning, Feb. 26, 2014.
Dot was born March 28, 1931, in Winnsboro, where she lived until marrying her husband in 1949. Dot attended Mount Zion High School in Winnsboro. Despite her dream of becoming a doctor, Dot immediately went to work in the local Five & Dime Store due to family needs. She transitioned to cleaning teeth for a local dentist and then on to U.S. Rubber Company. At the age of 18 she began her 64-year marriage in Greenville following a four-year, long distance courtship with Jim. After 10 years, having one child (JimBo), and another (Susan) on the way, Dot and Jim moved to Clemson in order for Jim to begin college. After Susan was born, Dot went to work at J.P. Stevens Company to support Jim’s efforts to secure a college degree. After college graduation, Jim took a job with Shell Oil Company. Following a brief stay in Columbia, Jim and Dot moved their young family to Atlanta, Ga. In Atlanta their family grew to three children with the birth of Ray. In 1966 the family moved to Knoxville, Tenn., where they lived for 33 years. With the children grown and Jim’s subsequent retirement from Shell, Jim and Dot made their last move in 1999 to within a few miles of where they began their married life. Dot’s interests included Clemson University football, golf, bridge, family vacations to Fripp Island, and traveling with Jim. For years, Dot was a volunteer Red Cross nurse at her children’s elementary school in Knoxville, Tenn. More recently, Dot was an attendee of First Baptist Church of Easley and Marion Moorehead Sunday School Class. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend.
Dot is survived by her husband, James (Jim) L. Cartee: her brother, Wade Hall (Georgia) of Hoschton, Ga.; her children: Charles Ray Cartee of Cumming, Ga., Susan Cartee Thornton (AL) of Cumming, Ga., and James (JimBo) L. Cartee Jr. (Diana) of Birmingham, Aala. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Madison Rae Erickson (Joseph), James L. Cartee III, and Allison Leigh Mills (Bryan). Finally, she is survived by two great-grandchildren: Ayden Avery Mills and Brogan Lyle Mills.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie Ruff Hall and Hilda Camille Thompson Hall, and her sisters, Betty Jane Ellenburg, Louise Mincey Liner, and Charlene Hall Cooper.
Services were held on Saturday, March 1, at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home (Downtown). Interment immediately followed in West View Cemetery, Liberty.
Charitable contributions should be made to Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt University (Nashville, TN.). Please write in the “memo” line, “CHD (Congenital Heart Disease) Research”. Ozzie Alexander
Greenville — Ozzie Alexander, 86, husband of Lillian A. Alexander, died Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2014 at his home.
Mr. Alexander was born in Cleveland County, Ga., a son of the late Gene Alexander and the late Althea Vandevar Alexander Hawkins. He was retired from A & R Sprinkler and he was a member of Truth Missionary Baptist Church. Mr. Alexander was a U.S. Navy veteran.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Lillian Alexander of the home, a son, Larry Alexander (Margaret) of Honea Path, three daughters, Elizabeth Alexander of Greer, Martha Alexander and Wanda F. Jones, both of Greenville, six grandchildren, Miranda Gilbert, Kristin Malik, Jonathan Gilbert, Jeremy Gilbert, Cody Alexander, Robin Jones, and Mikkell Jones, great grandchildren, Aleeya Grace, Memphis Jackson, Bentley Michael, and Elaina Faith. Surviving also is a niece and nephew, Micjael and Vicky Vaughn.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Alexander was preceded in death by his step-father Lewis Hawkins, grandson, Shone Knight, sister, Margaret Vaughn, and brother, Roy Alexander.
Funeral services were 1 p.m. Saturday, March 1 at Dillard Funeral Home in Pickens. Burial was at Holly Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.

Easley — Fred Lee Carter, 86, of Easley, husband of Ella Wyatt Carter died Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014.
Born in Georgia, Mr. Carter retired from textiles and was a member of Eastside Baptist Church.

Irene Washington
Easley — Irene Gulley Washington, 85, of 303 Peachtree Street, wife of the late Thomas Marion Washington, died Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014 at St. Francis Hospital.
Born in Elbert County, Ga., a daughter of the late Clyde Eugene and Blanche Ward Gulley, Mrs. Washington retired as a kindergarten teacher at First Baptist Church, Easley, after 20 years of service. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church, Easley, where she was a member of the Freeman Sunday School Class, the Friendship club and the Frances Eller/Oneida Mahaffey WMU Group. Mrs. Washington was a member of the American Legion Auxillary Post 52 in Easley.
Surviving are three daughters, Jane W. Ellenburg (Thomas E.) of Conway, Joy W. Rodatz of Easley, and Judith W. Khidhathong (Tong) of Wake Forest, N.C.; a sister, Delree G. Lloyd of Brandon, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Benjamin Ellenburg, Rachel Ellenburg McDowell, David and Sarah Rodatz and Thomas, Rebecca and Michael Khidhathong; and three great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Washington was predeceased by five brothers, Orrin, Herbert, Clark, Guilford and Herman Gulley and by two sisters, Jewell G. Cox and Valeria G. Howell.
Funeral services were 3 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church, Easley, with the Rev. Dr. John Adams officiating. Burial followed in Robinson Memorial Gardens, 1425 Powdersville Road, Easley.

Margie Roper
Easley — Margie Bagwell Roper, 88, of Easley, wife of the late Wideman Roper, died Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014 at Emeritus at Countryside Health Care Center.
Born in Pickens County, Mrs. Roper was a daughter of the late George Oscar and Artie Holder Bagwell. She retired from Saco Lowell and was a member of New Image Church.
Surviving are two daughters, Emily Roper of Easley, and Laura Mota (John) of Fayetteville, N.C.; a brother, Henry Bagwell (Barbara) of Easley; a sister, Lorine Hall of Easley; five grandchildren, Demond Roper, Renee’ Ellis (Steve), Brian Perry (Tonya), Allison Rhodes (Brad), and Sean Reed (Melissa); eight great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Roper was predeceased by 10 brothers and sisters.

Easley — Sandra Gohr Cribb, 69, wife of Van Cribb died Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014 at Brian nursing Center in Hendersonville N.C.
Born in Minnesota, Mrs. Cribb was a daughter of the late Dewayne and Eloise Thomas Gohr. She was a homemaker and of the Methodist faith.
Surviving in addition to her husband, are a daughter, Debbie Arcega of Powdersville; a son Scott Reynolds of Greenville; two granddaughters; one great-granddaughter and one sister.

Vera Seaborn Griffin
Simpsonville — Vera Seaborn Griffin, widow of J. Duane Griffin, died Saturday, March 1, 2014 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Griffin was born in Six Mile, Jan. 15, 1928 a daughter of the late Charles Detrich and Dulcinia Puckett Seaborn. She was a hairdresser and lived in Florida for 50 years.
Survivors include sisters, Ruth Craig, Frances Curlee and Eloise Seciliot, brothers, James and Carl Seaborn and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Griffin was preceded in death by brothers, Charles Seaborn, Ralph Seaborn, and Wade (Benny) Seaborn and sisters, Grace Carrere, Winona Gillespie, Eula Dorsey, and Audrey Davis.
A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 4 at Dillard Funeral Home chapel in Pickens.

Owen Robinson
Easley — Edward Owen Robinson, 72, of Ashwood Lane died Sunday morning at his residence.
Born in Liberty, he was predeceased by his first wife of 38 years, Becky Brown Robinson. He was the husband of Brenda Daves Robinson of the home and the son of the late Edward Glenn and Adymae Owen Robinson. He loved spending time with his family and pets and enjoyed doing yard work. He was retired from Greenwood Mills in Liberty and a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church where he attended the Genesis Sunday School Class.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Glenn Robinson(Ann Marie) of Greenville and David Robinson of Liberty; a daughter, Kelley Inglett(Adam) of Lexington, Ga.; and five grandchildren, Matthew and Katie Robinson and Lauren, Julia and Brandon Wells.
Funeral services to honor the life of Mr. Robinson were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel. Burial was at Greenlawn Memorial Park.

Betty Edwards
Easley — Betty Phipps Edwards, 69, wife of the late Floyd Edwards, died Sunday, March 2, 2014 at her home.
Born in Transylvania County, N.C., she was a daughter of the late Clyde E. and Magdela McKinney Phipps. Mrs. Edwards was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are three sons, Allen, Randy and Bryan Morgan; two grandchildren, Travis and Randi Morgan; two brothers and two sisters.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Edwards was predeceased by one brother and two sisters.

David Hawkins
Liberty — David Eugene Hawkins, 64, of 411 Quarry Road, died Sunday, March 2, 2014 at his home.
Born in Pickens County, a son of Grace Stewart Hawkins of Liberty and the late Guy Hawkins, David was employed with Vulcan Materials and of the Baptist faith. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Surviving, in addition to his mother, are his wife, Kathy Hughes Hawkins of the home; a daughter, Kim Hawkins Rhodes of Liberty; two grandchildren, Grant and Addison Rhodes; his father-in-law, Carl W. Hughes of Liberty; and a brother, Billy Hawkins of Liberty.

Ann Aiken Wilson
Pickens — Ann Aiken Wilson, 58, of Mt. Bethel Rd., wife of James Haskell Wilson, died Saturday, March 1, 2014 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.
Born Feb. 25, 1956 in Pickens County, she was a daughter of Helen Davis Aiken and the late Freeman Aiken. Mrs. Wilson was a homemaker, a loving wife, mother and grandmother who made her grandchildren her number one priority.
In addition to her mother and husband of 29 years, she is survived by her son, Chris Aiken (Thelma); step-daughters, Barbara Gillespie (Leonard) and Michelle Wilson; grandchildren, Christopher Aiken, Savannah Swaney, Chavis Aiken, Dakota Swaney, Kelcie Aiken and Blake Aiken.
In addition to her father, she was predeceased by her grandchildren, L.J. Gillespie and John Gillespie; sister, Martha “Mot” Hendricks; and brother-in-law, Doug Hendricks.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 6 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Powdersville Road. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Dennis Grafton
Easley — Dennis James Grafton, 66, died Saturday, March 1, 2014 at McCall Hospice House.
Born in Chicago, Ill., a son of the late Ercel and Kathleen Sweeney Grafton, Dennis was a graduate of Dyer Central High School, attended Purdue University and retired with the US Postal Service. He attended St. Luke’s Catholic Church and was a veteran of the Vietnam War having served with the U.S. Army. Dennis loved working with wood and fishing, and he volunteered at Baptist Easley Hospital.
Surviving are his wife, Linda “Lynn” League Grafton; four daughters, Kristy G. Goldberg (Dan), Beth L. Helm (Patrick), Lisa L. Bell, and Nadine L. Gwinn (Bill); a brother, Mark Grafton of Illinois; grandchildren, Olivia Goldberg, Michael Childers, Treigh and Trevor Lesley, and Jimmy and Amelia Helm; and great-grandchildren, Emma Rae and Landen.
Private graveside services will be held Wednesday.

Jimmy Lee Chapman
Easley — Mr. Jimmy Lee Chapman, 76, died Monday, March 3, 2014 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.
Born in Pickens County, a son of the late William Earl and Nealie Chappell Chapman, Mr. Chapman was a retired maintenance supervisor and a U.S. Air Force veteran.
Surviving are a brother, Loyd Brisco Chapman of Easley; and two sisters, Mildred Barber (Art), and Ruby Whitmire, all of Greenville.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Chapman was predeceased by two brothers, Dewey and Harold Chapman; and two sisters, Bertha Gebron and Francis Campbell.
Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 5 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown.
Visitation will be immediately following the service at the funeral home.
