GERALD WAYNE NODINE

CENTRAL — Gerald Wayne Nodine passed from this life on Sunday, March 22, 2020, at the age of 73, at Regency LTAC Hospital in Greenville.
His caregiver, Ruth Nodine, and daughter, Cindy, were by his side.
Born to Paul Grady and Dorothy Inez Nodine in Greer on March 29, 1946, Gerald was the second of two children. He graduated from Greer High School with the Class of 1964. A Vietnam veteran, he served in the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1973, attaining the rank of captain. In 1970, while stationed at Fort Jackson, Capt. Nodine married Ruth Gregory. Two years later, while stationed in Clemson, they became the parents of quadruplets. He remained in Clemson/Central following his discharge to raise their family.
After working various jobs and studying at Tri-County Technical College, Gerald acquired a job with Clemson University. He retired from Clemson University after many years as a technician for the School of Mechanical Engineering in the graduate student research lab.
Gerald is survived by two daughters and two sons, Edie and husband Cheney Brunner of Cincinnati, Ohio, Cindy and husband Chris Greaves of Tallahassee, Fla., Paul Nodine of Central and Greg and wife Deb Nodine of Central; nine grandchildren: Jack and Robert Brunner, Kara, Michael and Timothy Greaves, Jacob and wife Megan, Joshua, Jordan and Joseph Nodine.
He was predeceased by both parents and his brother, James Nodine.
The Cremation Society of SC – Westville Funerals is handling details. No funeral will be held at this time. A VA service at a national cemetery will be scheduled for a later date.

GERALD ELLENBURG

PICKENS — Gerald Dennis Ellenburg, 74, husband of Laura (Veda) Medlin Ellenburg, passed from this life on Thursday, March 26, 2020.
Mr. Ellenburg was born in Pickens County, son of the late Albert and Mary Dodgen Ellenburg. He was retired from Ellenburg Nursing Center in Anderson and he served his country as a lieutenant in the U.S. Army. Mr. Ellenburg was a member of Roanoke Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Laura (Veda) Ellenburg of the home; his son, Dennis Ellenburg (Sandy) of Pickens; and grandson, Anthony Alexander Ellenburg. Also surviving is a sister, Marilyn Cooper of Pickens.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Ellenburg was preceded in death by a sister, Jane Ladd Hamby, and brothers, Joel and Marcus Ellenburg.
Graveside services were conducted at Hillcrest Memorial Park, with the Rev. Justin Medlin officiating.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Interim Hospice for the loving care given to Mr. Ellenburg during his last illness.

CHARLES B. MASTERS

SIX MILE — Charles Masters stepped into the realm of glory out of this earthly world where he was welcomed home by his heavenly Father with arms opened wide on Thursday, March 26, 2020, at the age of 86.
There, he was reunited with his wife of 67 years, Betty Batson Masters, who predeceased him three months ago.
Charles was a member of Gap Hill Church of God. He retired from the School District of Pickens County, where he was a carpenter. Charles was also a talented craftsman. There are many heirlooms that are left to his credit that will be cherished always by family and friends.
Charles is survived by his children, Rick (Frankie) Masters, Pam (Tim) Putnam and Phillip (Betsy) Masters, all of Six Mile; grandchildren, Ami (Timmy) Davidson, Andrea (Tray) Brown, Allison (Brad) Mickler, Sara (Tanner) Rhinehart, Chad (Megan) Putnam, Brett (Jena) Putnam, Melissa (Scottie) Hager, William Masters and Noah Masters; and 14 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Kathy Crenshaw of Six Mile.
He was predeceased by his parents, Wade Esley Masters and Nora Pauline Stone Masters; and a brother, Wallace Masters, all of Six Mile.
A private family burial will take place at Gap Hill Baptist Church cemetery in Six Mile.

KATHLEEN POWELL
EASLEY — Celia Kathleen Cantrell Powell, 86, wife of the late Milford Powell, passed from this life to her Heavenly Home on Monday, March 23, 2020.
Mrs. Powell was born in Cateechee, a daughter of the late Carl and Mae Bell Dorsey Cantrell. She was retired from Sangamo Electric in Pickens and was formerly employed at The Singer Company. She was a member of Cannon Mountain Baptist Church.
Survivors include her daughter, Judy O’Shields (Daniel) of Easley; her sons, Gary Powell of Easley, and Ricky Powell (Kaye) and Tommy Powell (Gail), both of Pickens; her grandchildren, Matthew O’Shields (Gwinn), Tyler O’Shields, (special granddaughter, Hannah Wickberg), Rebecca Owen (Chase), Eric Powell (Christy), Lacey Powell and Amanda Adams (Randy); and 10 great-grandchildren; Micah and Isaiah O’Shields, Brynleigh Owen, Breeanna and Zander Adams, Hannah and Kirsty Powell, and Kaylee, Parker and Raegan Powell.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Powell was preceded in death by her infant daughters, Barbara Ann and twins Sheila and Sharon, also grandchildren Justin O’Shields (Laura Porter) and Travis Powell, and by sister and brothers, Virginia Childs, Frank Cantrell and Virgil Cantrell.
A funeral service was held on March 26 in the chapel of Dillard Funeral Home. Burial followed at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

ALMA G. FORTNER

EASLEY — Mrs. Alma Laura Gilbert Fortner, 79, wife of the late Jack Fortner, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, March 28, 2020.
Born in Pickens County, a daughter of the late James Lawson Gilbert and the late Mary Underwood Gilbert, Mrs. Fortner retired from Stone Manufacturing Company with more than 40 years of service and was a member of Turn Point Community Worship.
Surviving are two sons, Dale Gilstrap (Tammy) of Anderson and James Fortner of Liberty; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Fortner was predeceased by her first husband, Grady L. Gilstrap; a son, Joey Fortner; two brothers, Bud and Roy Gilbert; and four sisters, Hazel Shirley, Helen Gilbert, Edith Durham and Vivian Seay.
Memorial services will be held at a later date.

LULA MAE CHAPMAN

PICKENS — Lula Mae Chapman, 100, passed from this life on Tuesday, March 10, 2020.
Miss Chapman was born in Pickens, daughter of the late Silas Robert and Maude Nix Chapman. She lived a quiet, faithful life, loving and supporting her family, who will miss her kind and playful spirit.
In addition to her parents, Miss Chapman was preceded in death by her sister, Flora Brown, and her brothers, Frank Chapman and Clyde Chapman.
A graveside service was held on March 14 at Mile Creek Baptist Church cemetery, with Rev. Meg Jackson Clark officiating.

CURTIS ROBERT DODGENS

PICKENS — Curtis Robert Dodgens, 45, passed away in Greenville on Friday, March 27, 2020.
Born in Easley, South Carolina he is the son of Stewart and Norma Dodgens, and husband of Shannon Styles Dodgens. Curtis was employed by Sage Automotive and loved fishing, watching Dale Earnhardt racing, the South Carolina Gamecocks and his wife and family.
Survivors include his parents, Stewart and Norma; his wife of 21 years, Shannon; two daughters, Nicole Dodgens and Stacie Dodgens; a son, Curtis Blake Dover (Nikki); two brothers, Joshua (Lindsey) Dodgens and Stephen (April) Dodgens; paternal grandmother, Elise Dodgens; and maternal grandmother, Nancy Anderson. Curtis also leaves three grandchildren, McKenna Dover and Paisley Dover to share in his memory.
Curtis was predeceased by a maternal grandfather, Alvin Anderson; paternal grandfather, Marvin Dodgens; an uncle, David Anderson; a son, Curtis “CJ” Robert Dodgens Jr.; his mother and father-in-law, Clannie and Darlene Petit; and a grandson, Aiden Peace.
Services were held on March 31 at 2 p.m. in the Dillard Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Pickens.
