John C. Futrell
Dacusville — John Carl Futrell, 72, passed from this life on Wednesday, April 19, 2017.
John was born in Roane County, Tenn., a son of the late John Henry and Mary Ethel Smith Futrell. He was a retired carpenter and he was a member of Jones Hill Church of God.
Survivors include a son, Michael Futrell; and daughters, Teresa Cox and Sandra Moore; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are sisters, Barbara Warf, Sandra Laws, Charlene Mulkey, Brenda Howard, and Elizabeth Pangle and brothers, Herschel Futrell, Winston Futrell, Don Futrell, Earl Futrell, and David Lee Futrell. John is also survived by
several special nieces and nephews that he spoiled with “cookie cakes”, ice cream sandwiches and Pepsi Cola. He will be loved and missed dearly by all.
Funeral services were held April 23 at Jones Hill Church of God, with burial following in the church cemetery.

Lora S. Riggins
Easley — Lora Smith Riggins, 87, of West 2nd Avenue, wife of the late Eldon Riggins, passed away Saturday, April 22, 2017.
Born in Pickens County, she was a daughter of the late Robert and Gladys Crane Smith.
Mrs. Riggins was retired from Southern Weaving and was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Easley. She loved her family dearly, providing care to anyone in need. She also enjoyed collecting dolls.
Surviving are her children, Patricia Graham (Charles Copeland), Wayne Riggins, and Belinda Ellenburg (Keith) all of Easley; grandchildren, Scott Graham, Eric Graham and Lora Graham Tanksley; and nine great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her brothers, Bobby Joe Smith and the Rev. Buddy Lee Smith.
Funeral services were held April 25 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown, with burial following in Greenlawn Memorial Park.

Pickens — Cecil Stewart, 64, of Pickens, went home to be with his Lord on Monday, April 24, 2017, surrounded by his loving family at home.
Born in Pickens County, he was the son of the late Jack David and Alberta Elmina Williams Stewart. Cecil was a member of Secona Baptist Church, where he served as deacon and part of the Joyful Hearts Sunday School Class. Cecil enjoyed camping and traveling, but most importantly, he loved and cherished his family.
Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Teresa Chapman Stewart; two daughters, Mandy Turner (Bart) of Pickens and Christie Dunson (CB) of Pickens; two brothers, Clyde Stewart (Roberta) of Easley and Claude Stewart (Thelma), of Rosman, N.C.; one sister, Marie Griffith; and five grandchildren, Hannah Turner, Sami Turner, Jesi Turner, Isaac Dunson and Will Dunson.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, April 28, in the Dillard Funeral Home chapel. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens.

Pickens — Mildred Lucille Lee, 68, went to be with the Lord Thursday, April 20, 2017.
Mildred was born in Oconee County, the daughter of the late Walter Lou Fate Wood and Bertha Louise Wood.
Survivors include her sons Shane (Donna) White of Six Mile, Alan (Ashley) Goss of Pickens; Grandchildren Brianna White, Ryan White, A.J. Johnson, Amber Johnson, Franky (Ashley) Goss, Austin Goss, Jeremiah Goss, Brayden Goss, Addie Reid, and Christy White; Sisters Jeannette Gallimore, Audrey Goss, Linda Porter, and Doris Hannah; Brother Carl Wood.
Mildred was predeceased by her parents, a son, Joe White, and three sisters, Margaret Roush, Dorothy Martin, and Beatrice Gentry.
Funeral services were held April 25 at Mountain View Baptist Church in Six Mile, with burial following in the church cemetery.

Mary J. Trotter
Liberty — Mary Juanita Parton Trotter, 70, of 119 Maxwood Drive, passed away peacefully Friday, April 21, 2017, at Greenville Memorial Hospital, surrounded by her loved ones.
Born in Greenville, she was a daughter of the late Fred Parton and Nora Houston Wood. She was retired from the School District of Pickens County and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, as well as gardening. She was a member of The Bridge Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Lisa Gilstrap of Pickens; a son, Marion Trotter of Anderson; a sister, Angie Thackston of Simpsonville; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a son, Jeffery Trotter; a brother, Alvin Parton, and a great-grandchild.
Funeral services to honor the life of Ms. Trotter were held April 25 in the Liberty Mortuary chapel. Private burial will be held at a later date at Liberty Memorial Gardens.

Larry D. Ramey
PICKENS — Larry D. Ramey, 59, passed from this life April 16, 2017.
Born in Pickens, Mr. Ramey is the son of the late Hubert Ramey and Josie Perry Ramey Pruitt.
Mr. Ramey is survived by a brother, Herbert Ramey of Hendersonville, N.C., and two sisters, Nancy McJunkins of Myrtle Beach and Susan Whitfield of Central. In addition to his parents, Mr. Ramey is predeceased by a sister, Joann Taylor.
A graveside memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 29, at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens in Pickens.
James Henry Jones
Pickens — James Henry Jones, 80, husband of Mary E. Jones Stewart, went to be with the Lord Monday, April 24, 2017, at his home.
Mr. Jones was born in Pickens, the son of the late Sara E. Simmons Jones and Edward Lefeette Jones. He was a member of Mountain Grove Baptist Church and was retired from Builderway.
Survivors include his wife of 63
Teddy Jones
Easley — Teddy Donavon Jones, 75, of Easley, passed away April 17, 2017.
Born in Calhoun, Ga., he was the son of the late Arthur and Katherine Jones.
Ted retired from the construction industry. He loved to garden and spend time with his family.
Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Brenda Jones; two daughters, Pam Ramey and her husband Brad; and Kimberly Jones; one son, Keith Jones; one sister, Candace Jones; eight grandchildren, Heather (Jesse) Jones; Brittany (Jimmy) Bagwell; Dustin Jones; Jesse Jones; James Jones; JT Ramey; Kayla Vigliotti and Hunter Ramey; and six great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his siblings, Joan Nicholson, Randy Jones and Andy Jones.

“Cooter” Hudson
Sunset — Walter Lee “Cooter” Hudson Sr., 81, husband of 57 years to Conethel Watson Hudson, went to be with the Lord Saturday, April 22, 2017, at Baptist Easley Hospital.
Born in Pickens County, he was a son of the late Bruce and Rosa Lee Spearman Hudson. He was retired from Grant Lumber Company and he was a member of Crow Creek Church of God, where he served as Sunday school superintendent and senior Sunday school class teacher. He was an avid fisherman and loved to take his beagles out and listen to them run.
In addition to his wife of 57 years, he is survived by a son, Lee Hudson, and daughter, Lisa Hudson, of Sunset, daughter-in-law, Jackie Hudson of Easley, a brother, Doug Hudson of Roebuck, grandchildren Amanda Hudson (Doug Fowler) and Matthew Hudson of Easley and his special great-granddaughter, McKenna Fowler of Easley.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Cecyle Mote and brothers, Jack Hudson, Samuel Hudson, and W.T. Hudson.
Funeral services were held April 25 in the chapel of Dillard Funeral Home with the Rev. Raymond Whitman and the Rev. Roland Bearden officiating, followed by burial at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens.

Angela C. Merritt
Easley — Mrs. Angela Clark Merritt, 50, wife of Dean Edward Merritt, passed away Saturday, April 15, 2017, at her home, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Greenville County, a daughter of Martha Shaw Clark of Easley, and the late Rev. Nelson T. Clark, Mrs. Merritt received her associate degree in nursing from Greenville Technical College and was most recently employed as the director and RN of Active Day of Liberty. She was a member of NewSpring Church.
Angela loved animals, and enjoyed working in her flower garden and camping with her family.
Surviving, in addition to her husband of 24 years, are two daughters, Kayleigh Olivia Merritt and Kendall Merritt Tallon (Levi), all of Easley; a granddaughter, Addiline Grace Tallon of Easley; a sister, Andrea Clark Morton (Spencer) of Easley; a sister-in-law, Wanda Merritt of Brighton, Colo.; two nephews, Connor Morton of Atlanta, Ga., and Nathan Morton of Easley; and a niece, Madelyn Morton of Easley.
Funeral services were held April 20 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown, with the Rev. Bob Keely officiating. Private burial followed in Robinson Memorial Gardens.

BELTON — Thomas Mitchell Wallace, 33, of Belton, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 11, 2017.
Mitchell was a loving uncle, and everyone that knew him knew how much he loved being Uncle Mitch.
He is survived by his mother, Helen Chapman; his siblings, April Ballew, Eddie Wallace, Billy Ballew and Micheal Clark; and his five nieces, Keyonna Williams, Imani Johnson, Jalen Holloway, Emma Wallace, and Ella Grace. He was preceded in death by his sister, Misty Dawn Ballew; his father, Eddie Wallace Sr.; and his grandmother, Euneice Mathis.
A memorial service was held April 24 at The Palmetto Mortuary.
Jimmy Barbrey
Easley — James Edward “Jimmy” Barbrey, 72, of Sheriff Mill Road, passed away Tuesday, April 18, 2017.
Born in Pickens County, he was the son of the late Lewis and Stella Sheriff Barbrey.
Jimmy was employed with Sheriff Lumber Company and was a member of Zion United Methodist Church. He loved his family, hunting, fishing and watching western shows.
Surviving are his wife of the home, Donna Edens Barbrey; children, Lisa Barbrey McAlister (David), James Kyle Barbrey and Christopher M. Barbrey (Renee) all of Easley; six grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.

Charles W. Gilstrap
Easley — Mr. Charles W. Gilstrap, 91, born July 21, 1925, left his earthly home to join his wife, Lou Ellen Raines Gilstrap, in his heavenly home Wednesday, April 19, 2017.
They were married for almost 60 years. What a sweet reunion as Nanny opened her arms to welcome Daddy. We can see Daddy running through the gates of heaven with no more pain and suffering. Jesus makes all things whole.
Born in Pickens County, a son of the late James Benson and Maggie Lou Ellen Brooks Gilstrap, Mr. Gilstrap retired from Ryobi and was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. He was a US Army Veteran having served in WWII.
Daddy enjoyed spending time with his family, friends, church and gardening. He especially enjoyed his Bantam chickens.
He leaves behind three children, Billy Gilstrap (Cindy) of Easley, Kathy G. Nevins (Ray) of Easley, and Linda G. Robinson (Daryl) of Liberty; a brother, Don Gilstrap of Easley; a sister, Doris Trotter of Liberty; four grandchildren, Chris Robinson, Carrie Gregory (Bill), James Gilstrap (Amanda), and Leslie Tate (Ben); five great-grandchildren, Ashley Bagwell, Brayden Bagwell, Harrison Gregory, Landon Gregory and Samantha Tate. In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Gilstrap was predeceased by an infant daughter, Vickie Gilstrap; nine brothers and nine sisters.

Marty was born in Easley, the son of the late Charlie Whitmire and Dorothy Whitmire of Pickens. Marty was an avid Gamecock fan. Marty enjoyed fishing and also was a handy man and a very hard worker. He loved his family very much.
Survivors include his wife, Angie Whitmire; six children, Brandon Whitmire (Sue) of Pickens, Johnathan Whitmire (Lacie) of North Carolina, Jeremy Whitmire of North Carolina, Chelsea Whitmire Bradley (Spencer) of North Carolina, Justin Smith of Pickens, and Jessica Williams (T.J.) of Pickens; two half-brothers, Charles Terrill Whitmire and Ben Thomas Wilson; and eight grandchildren, Natlie Bradley, Breanna Whitmire, McKenzie Whitmire, Gracie Whitmire, Allie Williams, Hank Williams and Josiah and Eli Whitmire.
Marty was predeceased by his father, Charlie Whitmire; and three brothers, Tony Michael Whitmire, Gregory Allen Whitmire and Rodney James Whitmire.
