DANIEL ‘DAN’ LEWIS HUDSON
PICKENS — Mr. Daniel “Dan” Lewis Hudson, 88, loving husband to Linda Beebe, passed peacefully at his home on Thursday, April 3, 2025.
Daniel was born in Hammondsville Ohio, on March 2, 1937, to the late Hershel and Blanche Landis Hudson. He retired from Inland Lakes School as a language arts teacher. Daniel had a unique way of telling stories that would make people feel like they were there and a part of the story. He loved to grow a large garden and go around sharing with others in the community. Daniel enjoyed bear hunting and training his dogs to bear hunt, reading and spending time with his wife. The thing that he cherished most was the time he had with his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Daniel is survived by three children, Daniel Hudson (Donna), John Hudson (Di) and Elizabeth Ann Price (Jason); five grandchildren, Laykin Ashley Murray-Holliday (Kevin), Cameron Hunter (Harlie), Max Hudson (Katie), Brian Hudson (Ashley) and Henry Lewis Hudson; one brother, Charles “Chuck” Hudson (Ester); one sister-in-law, Anita Hudson; and numerous nieces and nephews who he loved dearly.
In addition to his parents, Daniel was preceded in death by one son, Kurt Hudson; and four brothers, Franklin Hudson, Carl Hudson, Norman Hudson and Floyd Hudson.
A memorial service will be held at a later date to honor the life of Daniel.

SYLVIA ROPER DOVER
LIBERTY — Sylvia Roper Dover, 81, passed away peacefully on Saturday night, April 5, 2025, in her home, surrounded by her beloved family. A woman of enduring faith, deep love, and steadfast devotion, Sylvia lived a life that was a true reflection of grace and purpose.
Born Dec. 16, 1943, in Pickens County, Sylvia was the firstborn of the late Jake T. Roper and Opal Gilstrap Roper Bryant. She was also preceded in death by her stepfather, Wilton Bryant; her brother, Allen Roper; brother-in-law, Ray York; and a nephew, Matthew Roper.
Sylvia is survived by her devoted husband of 63 years and eight months, Robert Edward Dover. Together, they built a loving home and raised six children; Scott Dover (Caroline) of Piedmont,
DeeDee Wilson (Harry) of Powdersville, Steve Dover (Joy) of Liberty, Brad Dover (April) of Liberty, Kim Coster (Mike) of Travelers Rest and Kevin Dover (Alecia) of Liberty.
She is also survived by 15 grandchildren; Patrick (Clare), Rebecca, Taylor (Yiliu), Chandler, Ethan, Austin, Adreanna, Scott, Jesse (Megan), Seth, Emma, Daniel (Mackenzie), Kelli (Tavonta), Kaitlyn (Robbie), and Bryant and 15 great-grandchildren; Anderson, Carter, Nora, Rohan, Roma, Ashwin, Sachin, Suri, Maddie, Harmony, Peyton, Waylon, Riggins, Taytum and Teagan.
Sylvia is also lovingly remembered by her sisters, Linda York (Ray) and Debbie Roach (Steve); brothers, Jerry Roper (Myrna), Tim Roper (J.J), Dale Roper (Missy), Mark Roper; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
For over two decades, Sylvia worked for the School District of Pickens County, where she drove a school bus for special needs children. Her care and compassion for the students she transported was unwavering. She often said she hoped she made a positive difference in each of their lives and there is no doubt that she did.
A faithful and active member of East Pickens Baptist Church, Sylvia was especially passionate about ministering to the shut-ins through the CIA (Christians In Action) ministry. She found great joy in sharing the love of Christ through visits, prayer, and encouragement.
Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her large and close-knit family. She was famous for baking birthday cakes and cookies for each child and grandchild, and for making every Christmas a cherished and meaningful celebration. Her fondest memory was every Christmas with her family around the altar she built and everyone placing their rock on the floor and stating what God had done for them in the past year and what they are thankful for. That family altar now sits at the base of her flagpole, a permanent symbol of her faith and her legacy.
Sylvia also found peace in reading, especially her Bible, cooking for her grandkids and great-grandkids and creating memories at their beach house and on Florida beach trips. She and Robert also found deep fulfillment in serving as foster parents, opening their home and hearts to children in need.
A celebration of Sylvia’s life will be held on, April 15, at 2 p.m. at East Pickens Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Visitation will be held on April 14, at East Pickens Baptist Church from 5:30 p.m. until 8 p.m.
Flowers are accepted, and memorial donations in Sylvia’s honor may be made to East Pickens Baptist Church or to Bon Secours Hospice by Compassus. The family extends a heartfelt thank you to Sylvia’s dedicated caregiver, Lola Rowland, and the entire hospice team for their compassionate care and support.
Sylvia’s life was a radiant testimony of love, faith, and family. She touched the hearts of many and leaves behind a legacy that will continue to shine through generations. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

FRANCIS MILLER CATER
PICKENS — Francis Miller Cater, loving wife of Wayne Cater, entered Heaven on April 3, 2025.
She was born Aug. 21, 1943, the daughter of the late Clarence and Carrie Miller. She had been given two views of how beautiful Heaven was before she passed away, and she was blessed to see Jesus sitting on His Throne. Francis was a member of Six Mile Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband (Wayne) of 53 years; her sister, Margaret (Paul) Alexander; and two nephews.
She was predeceased by her stepson, Leslie Cater, and three brothers and sisters.
She loved spending time working with her flowers. A special thanks to Amedisys Hospice (Danielle Greer and Brandy Duncan) for taking care of her. Graveside services were held April 7 at the Griffin Baptist Church cemetery.

JERRY EUGENE COOKSY JR.
EASLEY — Jerry Eugene Cooksy Jr., 64, beloved husband of Tammy Raines Cooksy for 26 years, was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at his residence.
Born on Oct. 12, 1960, in Flint, Mich., Jerry Eugene Cooksy, Jr. was the cherished son of Jerry Cooksy Sr. and Georganna Wersel Cooksy. A proud graduate of LakeVille Memorial High School in Otisville, Mich., Jerry was a talented athlete, excelling in numerous sports during his time there. He dedicated more than 25 years of his life to working at United Chemical (KIC), where he became a respected member of the team.
Jerry’s love for bowling was unmatched, earning him a well-deserved place in the Bowling Hall of Fame, and he rolled countless perfect 300 games throughout his career. Outside of his work and athletic achievements, Jerry had two great passions in life — his unwavering faith in the good Lord and his talent for crafting his beloved homemade fudge, a treat he shared generously with friends and family.
Survivors include his wife, Tammy Raines Cooksy of the home; two daughters, Amanda Osorio Cooksy (Rosalva) of Allen Park, Mich., and Emilee Cooksy (Kade) of Easley; grandchildren, Kamden, Kyson, Karson and Krew; siblings, Tina Christensen, Don Cooksy, Tami Loeffler (Gene), Patty Stephens (Allen) and Kathy Raines; special niece, Heather Cooksy; special nephews, Zach Earl and Josh Cooksy; best friends, Karl, Jeff, Victor and Eric; and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
Jerry was predeceased by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Joel and Patsy Raines of Pickens.
Funeral services were held on April 5 in the chapel of Mountain View Funeral Home. Interment followed at Bethlehem Church cemetery in Pickens. Mountain View Funeral Home is serving the Cooksy family.
OSCAR MCCLAIN JR.
LIBERTY — Oscar Leroy McClain Jr. left this world on March 25, 2025, at the age of 76.
Born on Sept. 1, 1948, in Anderson, he was a beloved son, father, brother and grandfather. Oscar resided in Liberty, where he spent many cherished years surrounded by family and friends. He was a son of the late Oscar L. Sr. and Mildred McGuire McClain.
He proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was awarded a Purple Heart and later earned the rank of Specialist 5 (SP5) before being discharged in 1970. He carried his love for his country with him throughout his life.
Family meant everything to Oscar. He is survived by his three daughters, Trudy Ellis (Russell), Misty Jamadar (Russell) and Bridget Gilreath (Luke); a son, Jessie Clark; his cherished grandchildren, Brittany Leslie (Cody), Heather Craine (Barry), Savannah Maness, Jacquelin Brady, Gabriella Brady and Jesse Maness; and six great-grandchildren, Ryder, Micah, Justice, Blaze, Cherish and Leila, who always brought a smile to his face. He shared a special bond with his brother, Terry McClain, and his sisters, Brenda Hamlin and Judy Atkins, keeping the family close at heart.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold and James McClain; and a sister, Mary Williams.
Oscar had a zest for life that was evident in his love for food, particularly Cracker Barrel and BBQ. He enjoyed spending time in his garden, nurturing plants and creating delicious canned goods that he proudly shared with loved ones. His laughter and warmth will be dearly missed, but his legacy will live on through the memories he has left behind.
Funeral services to celebrate Oscar’s life were conducted on April 7 in the Liberty Mortuary chapel. He was laid to rest with his parents at Liberty Memorial Gardens.
The family will be at the home of Brittany and Cody Leslie, 107 Cheryl Lane, Liberty.

WINONA SENTELL COLEMAN
CATEECHEE — Winona Sentell Coleman, 86, loving wife to Franklin Calvin Coleman, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, April 6, 2025, at Cottingham Hospice House in Seneca.
Born on Aug. 18, 1938, in Cateechee, Winona was the beloved daughter of the late Hurstell M. Sentell and Grace Martin Sentell. A faithful member of Rock Springs Baptist Church in Easley, Winona’s unwavering faith in her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, was the cornerstone of her life. Her devotion to Christ was evident in every aspect of her life, reflected through the love, compassion and care she selflessly offered to her family, friends, neighbors, fellow church members and anyone in need whom she encountered. Known for her deep commitment to both Scripture and prayer, Winona was a devoted Bible reader and a steadfast prayer warrior, often lifting up others in heartfelt petitions. As an exceptional cook, she joyfully opened her home, sharing countless meals with friends and family, always feeding others with warmth and kindness. Winona’s life was a beautiful testament to the power of love, faith and service to others.
Survivors include her husband, Franklin Calvin Coleman of the home; sons, Joel A. “Andy” Coleman (Sherry) and Glen Morton (Sharon); sister, Linda Teague; grandchildren, Jake Coleman, Jonah Coleman (Amelia), Jordan Coleman (Alexis), Jaron Collins and Jordan Collins; and a special niece, Teresa Moore.
In addition to her parents, Winona was predeceased by her son, Bradley Coleman, and brother, Donald L. Sentell and his wife Selma.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m.-noon April 10 in the chapel of Mountain View Funeral Home, with a funeral service to follow at noon.

SAMUEL D. BREAZEALE JR.
DACUSVILLE — Samuel D. “Sam” Breazeale Jr. 78, husband of the late Doris P. Breazeale, passed from this life Tuesday, April 1, 2025.
Sam was raised, educated and lived his life in the Dacusville community. He was proud of that heritage. His parents were the late Samuel D. Breazeale Sr. and Avery Harkins Breazeale.
Sam was a member of Harmony Baptist Church, a retired owner/operator in the trucking business and always had a project or two in the works at any given time. Never being able to sit still, Sam found companionship and love in Edna King. She was his fishing partner, camping and traveling buddy, and even though she would not admit it, a part-time mechanic’s helper. As a result of that relationship, he gained a bonus family within Edna’s family, Brenda and Frankie, Glenda and Junior as well as additional grand- and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include his children, Dennis (Cindy) Porter, Shannon (Charles) Sutton, Jason (Stephanie) Porter and Sonya (Dan) Cox; grandchildren, Lydia, Emma, Zoe, Kaetlyn, Josh, Breanna, Taylor, Kamryn, Connor and Savannah; and great-grandchildren; Aiden, Lee and Adalynn Mae.
A graveside service was held April 4 at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens with Rev. Leon Shipman officiating.
The family will be at the home of Dennis Porter.

SHARON DIANE MARTIN
SIX MILE — Sharon Diane Martin, 66, loving wife of more than 30 years to the late Eddie Wilbur Martin, passed away on Friday, April 4, 2025, at Cottingham Hospice House in Seneca.
Born on Aug. 30, 1958, in Anderson County, Diane was the cherished daughter of the late Charles E. Porter and Sarah Haney Porter. A woman of great warmth and generosity, she had a deep passion for animals and people. Diane was known for her nurturing spirit, and to many, she was a mother figure, offering care and wisdom to all who crossed her path.
Survivors include her son, Jeffery S. Thrasher (Kaitlyn) of Belton; sisters, Wanda L. Thrasher, Teresa A. Stone and Sarah P. Simpson (David); sister-in-law, Shelby Jean Martin; special friend, Stacy Durham; five nephews, and two nieces.
In addition to her husband and parents, Diane was predeceased by her brother, Ronald E. Porter.
Visitation will be held from 1-2 p.m. Friday, April 11, in the chapel of Mountain View Funeral Home, with a memorial service to follow at 2 p.m.

BUDDY GILSTRAP
EASLEY— Buddy Gilstrap, 55, passed away on Sunday, March 23, 2025, at Cottingham Hospice House in Anderson.
Born on Jan. 24, 1970, in Greenville, Buddy was the son of the late Donald Austin Gilstrap and Frankie Freeman Gilstrap.
A proud attendee of Easley High School, Buddy later found his professional path at Thermoforming Plastics. He was a man of many passions, with a deep love for fishing, and he found joy in the camaraderie of a good pool game. His adventurous spirit led him to enjoy long motorcycle rides and the thrill of shooting firearms. Buddy also had a fondness for exploring flea markets, where he loved hunting for unique treasures, particularly knives, which he collected with great enthusiasm. His diverse interests reflected his vibrant personality and love for the simple pleasures in life.
Survivors include his wife, Kimberly Gilstrap of Easley; children, Cole Gilstrap, Cassidy Gilstrap and Gracie Gilstrap, all of Easley; and sister, Cissy Gilstrap Ledford.
Mr. Gilstrap was predeceased by his parents, Donald and Frankie Gilstrap.
The family will hold a celebration of Buddy’s life that will be announced at a later date.
