JOHNNY PARRIS

PICKENS — Johnny Parris, 63, passed away on Monday, May 8, 2023, at his home.

Born on Aug. 20, 1959, in Lancaster, Calif., Johnny was the son of the late Martin McCall and Priscilla Mae Waters Parris. Mr. Parris earned his Merchant Mariner Certificate and was employed by Edison Chouest Offshore and later Cornell Dubilier. He enjoyed riding his Harley, boating with friends on the lake and large gatherings with bonfires. He never thought twice about helping those he loved. He was loved and respected in his community.

Mr. Parris is survived by his girlfriend, Mary Gaydish of Pickens; his daughter, Crystal Owen of Pickens; two grandchildren, Caeleigh Rush and Alayna Rush; and siblings, Tina Popard, Robert Parris, Dean Parris, Missy Moody, Ronnie McCall, Mark McCall and Ruby Jones.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Parris was predeceased by a brother, Billy Ray Parris.

A visitation was held on May 12 in the chapel of Mountain View Funeral Home in Pickens, with a memorial service following.

The family will be at the home.

B.H. CROWE

 

LIBERTY — Benjamin Harrison “B.H.” Crowe Jr., 92, died peacefully on Monday, May 8, 2023, in his sleep at Richard M. Campbell Veterans Nursing Home in Anderson.

Born in Liberty, he was the husband of Louise Ladd Crowe and a son of the late Benjamin Harrison Crowe Sr. and Janie Patterson Crowe.

Surviving, in addition to his wife of the home, are two daughters, Kay Mize (Jack) and Patti Gwinn (Larry), all of Liberty; three grandchildren, Geoff Mize (Tracy), Alicia Landreth (Patton) and Robert Gwinn; two great-granddaughters, Zada and Jovy Landreth; a sister, Joyce Crowe; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara Hudson Crowe; two infant sons; three sisters, Mildred “Midge” Thrasher, Bernice “Coute” Smith and Lillian Stewart; and three brothers, Doyle, Horace and Milton Crowe.

Mr. Crowe was a member of Calumet Baptist Church, where he had served as a deacon and on various committees.

He was a graduate of Clemson University and a loyal Tiger fan. He was proud of being a member of the 1947 Liberty High School state championship football team and making a hole-in-one at Bonnie Brae Golf Club in 2017 at the age of 87. His career in textile manufacturing included several years with Woodside Mills, Wamsutta and Glenn Raven.

He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and spent his final months of life at the Richard M. Campbell Veterans Nursing Home.

Funeral services to honor the life of Mr. Crowe were held on May 10 in the Liberty Mortuary chapel. Burial followed at Liberty Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Richard M. Campbell Nursing Home, 4605 Belton Highway, Anderson, SC 29621 or Calumet Baptist Church, 400 S. Peachtree St., Liberty, SC 29657.

ALBERT ‘AL’ PATTERSON

PICKENS — Albert “Al” Patterson, 79, loving husband of 14 years to Sylvia Patterson, passed away on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, at AnMed Medical Center, in Anderson.

A native of Pickens County, Al was born on Aug. 21, 1943, the son of the late Ernest Patterson and Nora Powell Patterson. Mr. Patterson was a member of Cove Creek Baptist Church in Pickens. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and woodworking.

Survivors include his wife, Sylvia Patterson of the home; his children, Shane Patterson (Will) of Charlotte, N.C., Kevin Patterson (Patricia) of Spartanburg, Hunter Patterson (Ashley) of Honea Path, Aaron Patterson of Iva, Dustin Henderson (Mary-Kate) of Pickens, Shawn Henderson of Pickens and Jacob Ford (Larry) of Liberty; grandchildren, Kelsey, Brandon (Courtney), Jimmy (Maddi), Alasia and Paizley-Rae; great-grandchildren, Caylee, Kenna, Jayden and Knox; a brother, Preston Patterson; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Patterson was predeceased by a brother, Tom Patterson; and a sister, Betty Broome.

Visitation was held on May 12 in the chapel of Mountain View Funeral Home in Pickens, with a funeral service following. The burial was held after the service at the Cove Creek Baptist Church cemetery.

TAMMY SUE RIDDLE

PICKENS — Tammy Sue Riddle, 62, loving wife of 44 years to William Riddle, passed away on Friday, May 12, 2023, at Baptist Easley Hospital.

A native of Pickens County, Tammy was born on Dec. 15, 1960, a daughter of the late Lloyd Crane and Rose Galloway Crane. Mrs. Riddle was a member of Mt. Bethel Church in Sunset. She loved spending time with her family and especially loved being with her grandkids. She enjoyed watching CSI and the Hallmark channel.

Survivors include her husband, William Riddle of the home; her children, Scott Riddle (Tina Haas), Ashley White (Aaron), Trixie Harris (Travis) and Matt Riddle (Shelly), all of Pickens; her grandchildren, Zach, Sissy, Blake, Tristin, Hannah, Peyton, Bryson, Kaylee and Lilly; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Shelia Roberts; a brother, Jimmy Dale Porter; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Riddle was predeceased by two brothers, Richard Porter and Tim Porter.

A memorial service to honor Tammy’s life will be held at a later date.

VIRGINIA H. ‘HOLLY’ MINISALL

SIX MILE — Virginia H. “Holly” Minisall, 58, loving wife of 31 years to Rand Minisall, passed away on Sunday, May 14, 2023, at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Born on July 5, 1964, in Hollywood, Fla., Holly was the daughter of Earl Conquest and the late Gwendolyn Bannister Conquest. Mrs. Minisall was a very spiritual woman who loved Jehovah and Jesus. She worked at Grand Union in Hollywood, Fla., before going into banking at CCB. She was the world’s greatest wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She loved her 12 grandkids, her daughters, Tammie and Tabitha, and her son, Jesse. Holly loved preaching God’s Word, reading the bible, crocheting, hiking, waterfalls, Pokémon and animals (she always had dogs and cats).

Survivors include her husband, Rand Minisall of the home; her father, Earl “Pop” Conquest of Travelers Rest; her children, Tabitha Fish of Seneca, Tammie Santiago (Carlos) of Easley, Jesse Murphy of Six Mile and Matthew Minisall of Hollywood, Fla.; 12 grandchildren; and two brothers.

In addition to her mother, Gwendolyn Conquest, Mrs. Minisall was predeceased by a sister and a brother.

The family will host a memorial service to honor the memory of Virginia on Saturday, May 20, at 2 p.m., in the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 105 S. Norris Drive, Norris, SC 29667.

The family will be at the home.

BILLY WADE CAPPS

LIBERTY — Mr. Billy Wade Capps, 66, loving husband of Mrs. Johnnie “Fay” Capps, formerly of Phenix City, Ala., passed away on Monday, May 8, 2023, at his residence.

Mr. Capps was born in Phenix City, Ala., on Sept. 1, 1956, to the late John Thomas and Mildred Lucille Clegg Capps. He loved playing pool, darts, fishing, cooking, gathering with friends and family and NASCAR. He was self-employed and will be missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his loving wife, Mr. Capps is survived by a daughter, Amanda Fernandez (John) of Phenix City, Ala.; a grandchild, John Luis Fernandez; two sisters, Jeannie Smith (Cliff) of Phenix City, Ala., and Linda Carpenter (Jimmy) of Stockbridge, Ga.; and multiple nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Capps was preceded in death by a brother, John Thomas Capps Jr.

The family will host a celebration of life service at a later date in Alabama.

ROBERT L. FRADY, JR.

MARIETTA — Robert L. Frady Jr., 59, loving husband of 43 years to Melissa Frady, passed away on Thursday, May 11, 2023, at Prisma Health Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Born on May 19, 1963, in Prince Edward County, Va., Robert was the son of the late Robert Lewis Frady Sr. and Annie Norris Chinault Frady. Mr. Frady was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Greenville.

Survivors include his wife, Melissa Frady of the home; two sons, Robert Curtis Frady and Jonathan Colby Frady, both of Marietta; a grandson, Jonathan Connor Frady; and siblings, Tracy Stewart, Ronnie Frady and Deloris Marie Frady.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Frady was predeceased by Robin Rene Hollifield of North Carolina.

Thomas Jay “TJ” Pilgrim

SENECA — Thomas Jay “TJ” Pilgrim, 33, of Seneca, was born July 26, 1989.

Our Superman entered his eternal home May 11, 2023.

TJ is survived by his wife, Miranda Pilgrim, his daughters, Halie Pilgrim, 14, and Emma Pilgrim, 8, and his parents, grandparents, sister, nieces, nephews, extended family and countless friends he called family.

TJ loved his family beyond measure. His daughters were his everything. He was always laughing and was the biggest self-proclaimed goofball we knew. He always put others’ needs before his own. He loved hunting, fishing, his dogs and the USC Gamecocks. He was proud of his studies and belief in Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.

We will gather as family and friends to have a celebration of TJ’s life at 11 a.m. Friday, May 19, in the chapel of Mountain View Funeral Home in Pickens.

We ask that in lieu of flowers, please donate monetarily or in supplies to your local Humane Society in his honor.

BETH DALTON

CENTRAL — Ms. Lizzie Beth Dalton, 82, passed away with her family by her side on Saturday, May 13, 2023, at Prisma Health-Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Born in Greenville, she was a daughter of the late Elijah Lee and Nancy Lorene Moore Kuykendall. She retired from Champion Aviation and attended Cateechee Baptist Church.

Ms. Dalton loved spending time with her family and friends, and her favorite pastime was sewing quilts.

She will be lovingly remembered by her family, daughter, Joyce Hendricks (Wayne) of Greenville; son, Richard Dalton (Sheila) of Seneca; grandchildren, Levi Holden (Jessica), Chris Holden (Beverly), Chase Pilgrim (Charie), Brianna Huffstetler, Jaron Dalton, Jordan Dalton, Michelle Hawkins (Eric) and Miranda Strickland (Beau); a sister-in-law, Nancy Kuykendall; and a daughter-in-law, Kathi Dalton. She is also survived by numerous great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandson.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Janie Huffstetler; a son, Brad Dalton; two brothers, Lewis Moore and Henry Kuykendall; and a sister, Mary Loretta Turner.

Funeral services to honor the life of Ms. Dalton will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday, May 17, in the Liberty Mortuary chapel. Burial will be at Liberty Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends prior to the service on Wednesday from 1:30-2:30 p.m. at the mortuary.
