Sara Crowe

Liberty — Sara Mae Powell Crowe, 82, of 120 Roanoke Road, passed away peacefully Monday, May 9, 2016, at her residence.

Born in Easley, she was the wife of Alex “Junior” Crowe Jr. for more than 66 years, and a daughter of the late Horace Rosemond and Ada Chandler Powell. She retired from Crowe’s Grocery Store, which she and her husband owned for many years. She loved sewing and had grown passionate about making clothing for Angels Unaware, which provides for families of stillborn children. She was a Past Worthy Matron of Keowee O.E.S. Chapter No. 128 and was a current life member of Easley O.E.S. Chapter No. 200. She had also been attending Norris First Baptist Church for the past several years.

Surviving in addition to her husband are a daughter, Patricia Gilstrap (Tommy Joe) of Liberty; two sons, Robert Crowe (Deborah) of Easley and Richard Crowe (Joan) of Pickens; a sister, Edna Raines of Easley; two brothers, Alvin and Vernon Powell, both of Easley; three grandchildren; and numerous great- and great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by three brothers, Cleo, William and Herman Powell.

Funeral services to honor the life of Mrs. Crowe were held May 11 in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel, with burial following at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Etrulia S. Dickard Galloway

Easley — Mrs. Etrulia Sutherland Dickard Galloway, 83, wife of the late Milton Dickard and the late J.C. Galloway, passed away Tuesday, May 10, 2016, at Baptist Easley Hospital.

Born in Pickens County, a daughter of the late John and Lila Masters Sutherland, Mrs. Galloway retired from the Elljean Plant of Alice Manufacturing and was a member of United Wesleyan Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Debbie K. Duncan (Hal) of Easley; a sister, Nell Winchester of Fayetteville, N.C.; two grandchildren, Paige Butler (Tony) and Mandy Pace (Nathan); and five great-grandchildren, Tanner Butler, Kenslee Butler, C.J. Pace, Eastton Garrard and Abby Garrard. In addition to her husbands and parents, Mrs. Galloway was predeceased by a brother, Gordon Sutherland.

Funeral services were held May 13 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown, with burial following in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Sara E. Dacus Wade

Easley — Sara Elizabeth Dacus Wade, 86, wife of 69 years to R.C. Wade, went to be with the Lord Thursday, May 12, 2016.

Born in Pickens County, she was the daughter of the late William Henry and Rebecca Lois Smith Dacus.

Mrs. Wade was a homemaker and seamstress. She also worked many years in the manufacturing industry and at First Baptist Church Easley Child Development Center. She was a member of Brushy Creek Baptist Church, the Willing Workers Sunday School class and once a week could be seen visiting the shut-in widows of the church. A former member of Jones Avenue Baptist Church, she spent many years serving as Sunday school teacher, WMU director and choir member.

Known to her family as Grandmama, she was a loving and devoted Christian, wife, mother and grandmother.

Surviving, in addition to her husband, are a daughter, Sheila Wade Gibson (Jerry); and two sons, Phillip C. Wade and Wyatt H. Wade (Teresa), all of Easley; former daughter-in-law, Linda Wade; six grandchildren, Billy Gibson (Joy), Brian Gibson (Susan), Stacey Brooks (Todd), Reverend Dr. Steven Wade (Jenny), Jason Wade (Mallory) and Jessica Sumney (Jimmy); 16 great- grandchildren, Katie, Leanna, Caroline and Griffin Gibson; Wade, Aaron, Jacob, Alaina, Sydney and Maddie Brooks; Caleb, Sarah, Lydia and Anna Wade; and Drew and Nate Sumney; and siblings, Paul Dacus, Betty Skelton and Ann Crowe.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by siblings Mildred Howard, Dallas, Henry, and Olin Dacus; and two great-granddaughters, Carlie Lynn and Ashlyn Rebekkah Brooks.

The family would like to express gratitude to a special sister-in-law, Nannie Alexander, for her care and compassion shown toward Mrs. Wade.

Services to celebrate the life of Mrs. Wade were held May 16 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home Downtown, with the Rev. Dr. Steven Wade and the Rev. Rodney Graham officiating, with a committal service following at Hillcrest Memorial Park with the Rev. Dr. Jim Spencer officiating.

Joyce Smith Taylor

Six Mile — Mrs. Joyce Smith Taylor, 84, wife of the late Joe Curtis Taylor Sr., passed away Saturday, May 14, 2016, at Manna Health and Rehab.

Born in Greenville County, a daughter of the late Clyde Thomas and Florence James Smith, Mrs. Taylor was a homemaker and a member of Ridgeland Drive Baptist Church, Six Mile.

Surviving are a son, Joe Curtis Taylor Jr. (Christy) of Six Mile; a daughter, Deborah T. McBride (Reggie) of Taylors; three sisters, Delores Donehue, Betty Lusk and Judy Pearson, all of Pickens; five grandchildren, Mark McCarson, Brooke McCarson, Curtis Taylor, Courtney Makis and Justin McBride; and three great-grandchildren, Jada Makis, and Noah and Evan McCarson.

Funeral services were held May 16 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown with Rev. Tim Friar officiating, with burial following in Graceland Cemetery, East.

Robert P. White, Sr.

Central — Robert P. White Sr. (Bob), 78, of Central, died Thursday, May 13, at his home.

Raised in Netcong, N.J., Bob graduated from Netcong High School in 1955. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Montclair State College in 1959 and began his career in education as an industrial arts teacher at Morris Hills Regional High School. He later became the related arts supervisor at Jefferson Township High School and earned a Master’s degree from Montclair. He was also a track and field official for 25 years. In 1963, he married Mary Davis, of Scranton, Pa., and moved to Stanhope, N.J., where they lived and raised a family. He retired in 1994 after 34 years in education. Bob was a Stanhope borough councilman and acting mayor, a member of the Netcong Fire Department, Stanhope Fire Department, Sussex County Peace Officers Association and a life member of the NRA.

Bob and Mary moved to Central in 2006, where he enjoyed making many new friends, particularly the morning group at Hardee’s. Here, he was a member of the Central Model Railroad association, sheriff’s association, and Clemson United Methodist Church. Bob was a 50-year member of North Star Masonic Lodge in Wharton N.J. (now Acacia Lodge No. 20), a 32nd degree mason and a Knight Templar. He served as Square Club president for one year and secretary for 30 years. In 2012, he was initiated as a Noble of the Hejaz shrine in Greenville.

Bob is survived by his wife Mary of 52 years; a daughter, Jennifer Harvey (Charles) of Pendleton; a son, Robert P. White Jr and fiancée Patty Haug of Downingtown, Pa.; and four grandchildren: Robert Christopher White; and Adam, Simon and Harmony Harvey.

Memorial service and Masonic Rites were held May 17 in the chapel of Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home.

Interment will be at Stanhope Union Cemetery in Stanhope, N.J., at a later date.

Joyce Jones

Clemson — Joyce Duran Jones, 77, of 205 Blue Ridge Drive, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, May 11, 2016, at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Born in New London, Conn., she was the widow of Richard Garrison Jones and a daughter of the late Eloy A. and Bertha Stroneski Duran.

Mrs. Jones retired from Wesley Elementary School in Connecticut, where she worked as a secretary. She was a member of Martin Grove Wesleyan Church. During her retirement, she enjoyed reading and taking walks, but most of all she loved her family.

Surviving are a daughter, Kathryn Whitehurst (Trey) of Central; two sons, Neal Jones (Courtney) of Delray Beach, Fla., and Doug Jones of Corona, Calif.; also surviving are four grandchildren, Spencer and Daniel Whitehurst, and Shayne and Campbell Jones.

Memorial services and private burial to honor her life will take place at a later date in Rocky Hill, Conn.

John Carpenter

Easley — John David Carpenter, 56, of 104 Westchester Way, passed away on Friday, May 13, 2016, at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Born in Shelby, N.C., he was a son of Ben Carpenter and the late Alma Thrift Carpenter.

He graduated from Shelby High School, received his B.S. degree from N.C. State University, and later received his MBA from Jacksonville University. He was a project engineer for Jacobs Engineering and Consulting in Greenville.

He had numerous hobbies, which included hunting, fishing, reading, camping, hiking, beekeeping, woodworking, blacksmithing and traveling.

John was a member of Mt. Airy Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to his father of Easley, are his wife, Myra Jacks Carpenter of the home; a daughter, Erin Carpenter of Easley; two sons, Jacob Carpenter (Joyce Underwood) of St. Robert, Mo., and Ryan Carpenter (Jennifer) of San Mateo, Fla.; a sister, Gayla Bucher (Bill) of Salisbury, N.C.; three grandchildren, Allen, John and Trilby Carpenter.

Funeral services to honor the life of Mr. Carpenter will be 2 p.m., Wednesday, May 18, in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel, followed by burial at Robinson Memorial Gardens. The family will be at the home.

Linda Wynn Stancell

EASLEY — Linda Wynn Stancell, 75, of Easley, went to be with her Savior on Thursday, April 7, 2016, at the home of her sister.

Linda was born in Greenville County, the daughter of the late Charles Clinton and Mary Emma Edwards Wynn. She was retired from The Medical Center in Easley after 42 years of service and was a member of East Pickens Baptist Church. She was a 1958 graduate of Berea High School, where she was class president.

She is survived by her son, William R. “Bill” Stancell of Easley; grandson, John Anthony (Jeanine) Stancell of Dacusville; her sister, Kathy Wynn of Greenville; and her great-grandchildren, Steven and Caitlyn Stancell, and Rylie and Carter Buchanan; and her daughter-in-law, Glenda Hester of Marietta.

In addition to her parents, Linda was preceded in death by a son, Steven Anthony “Tony” Stancell; and her brother, Frank Thomas “Butch” Wynn.

The memorial service was held on April 10 at East Pickens Baptist Church.

Ann Dalton Winchester

EASLEY — Ann Dalton Winchester, 78, of Easley, wife of Don Winchester, went home to be with her Lord Sunday, May 15, 2016.

Born in Pickens County, she was the daughter of the late Roy Smallwood and Mary Eloise Hopkins Dalton.

Ann was a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church. She was a kindergarten teacher at Easley First Baptist Church and East End Elementary. She retired from Clemson Extension Service as an administrative assistant. Ann enjoyed crafting and was very talented at what she did. She was an avid Clemson Tigers fan. She enjoyed being a homemaker and loved her grandchildren and great-grandson.

In addition to her loving husband of nearly 60 years, she is survived by two children, Miriam Payne (Jeff) and Chip Winchester (Lulu); three grandchildren, Jordan Payne (Yeoman), Jed Payne, and Kaleigh Winchester; one great-grandchild Quin Payne; three brothers, J.S. Dalton (Betty), Allison Dalton (Carolyn) and Charles Dalton (Libby); and numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

The visitation will be held from 1:30 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. Wednesday, May 18, at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest, with the funeral service to follow at 3 p.m. in the Northwest Chapel. Burial will be held in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Elizabeth C. Gibson

Pickens — Elizabeth Holcombe Caldwell Gibson, 91, of Pickens, went to her Heavenly home on Tuesday, May 10, 2016.

Born in Pickens County, she was a daughter of the late Parley and Mary Finley Holcombe.

Mrs. Gibson was twice married. Her first husband was the late Wesley William Caldwell Sr., and her second husband was the late Edward Gibson. She was retired from Mayfair Mills, Glenwood Plant, and was a member of Park Street Baptist Church in Easley. She loved her Lord, her family and any flower that God made.

Surviving are a daughter, Hester Hendricks (George) of Easley; sons, Wesley William Caldwell Jr. (Nancy) of Dade City, Fla., and Bobby Timothy Caldwell of Pickens; a special grandson raised in the home, Rodney Vinson of Pickens; step children, Jimmy Gibson, Bobby Gibson (Margaret) and Carolyn Nix (Dr. Alton), all of Easley, Mary Lou Aiken of Pickens and Anna Nell Stegall of Greenville; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sisters, Bertha Patterson of Pickens, Earline Roper of Easley and Jewell Durham of Gaffney; and brothers, Johnny Holcombe of Pickens and J. Roy Holcombe of Easley.

In addition to her husbands and parents, she was predeceased by a daughter, Frances Jennings; a stepson, Curtis Gibson; sisters, Eula Hudson, Vera Jameson and Beatrice Gantt; and brothers, James and Herman Holcombe.

Funeral services were held May 14 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown, with burial following in Hillcrest Memorial Park in Pickens.

Mary Holcombe

Easley — Mary Lou Smith Holcombe, 85, of 110 Satterfield Road, died Wednesday, May 11, 2016, at Hosanna Health and Rehab.

Born in Walhalla, she was the widow of William Franklin Holcombe and a daughter of the late Fletcher G. and Willie Blackwell Smith.

She retired from American Enka, and was an avid gardener who loved flowers.

Surviving are two daughters, Cathy Barton of Easley and Dianne Corn (Michael) of Pickens; three sons, Wayne Roger Holcombe (Pam) of Simpsonville, Ron Holcombe of Liberty and William Allen “Billy” Holcombe of Easley; also surviving are two grandchildren raised in the home, Eric Powell (Christie) and Starla Smith (Dustin); five sisters, Willie Owens, Bessie Durham, Ann McClain, Rita Davis and Minnie Manley; a brother, Turner Smith; 14 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Gail Black.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Martha Rogers and Lucy Smith, and two brothers, Dock and Roy Smith.

Funeral services to honor the life of Mrs. Holcombe were held May 14 in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel, with burial following at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
