CALVIN MITCHELL ALEXANDER

LIBERTY — Calvin Mitchell Alexander, 67, son of the late MC and Jeanette Alexander, passed away on Friday, May 3, 2019, at his home in Liberty.

Mr. Alexander, who loved to socialize, was a friend to everyone, as he never met a stranger. Although he didn’t watch much TV, besides the weather and news, he had a deep fondness for music. He was a strong man of faith who also enjoyed collecting hats — especially old sombreros.

He is survived by three sisters, Elizabeth Nix (Harrison), Gail Bennett and Evelyn Bowie; and two brothers, Edward Alexander (Cathy) and Michael Alexander (Cheryl), all of Pickens County.

He was predeceased by one sister, Mildred Powell; and two brothers, Carlos Alexander and Matthew Alexander.

A graveside service was held on May 7 at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

GERI REEVES

SIX MILE — Geraldine Smith “Geri” Reeves, 73, of 1176 Liberty Highway, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 22, 2019, at the home of her daughter in Piedmont.

Born in Six Mile, she was the widow of Edwin Gary “Ed” Reeves and the daughter of Mildred Mann Smith and the late L.G. Smith. Mrs. Reeves was an avid gardener and was a member of The Mill Church in Pickens.

Surviving, in addition to her mother of Clemson, are a daughter, Robin R. Smith (Todd) of Piedmont; three sons, Scott R. Reeves (Pam) of Easley, Mark T. Reeves (Kim) of Six Mile and Chris D. Reeves (Kelly) of York; two brothers, Larry K. Smith of Greenville and Robert A. Smith of Aiken; 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Services to celebrate the life of Mrs. Reeves were conducted on April 25 in the Liberty Mortuary chapel.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully request memorials be made to Open Arms Hospice, 1836 W. Georgia Road, Simpsonville, SC 29680.

BEN “BUD” FRED SMITH JR.

PICKENS — “Bud” Smith Jr., 82, husband of Patricia Hughes Smith, passed from this life on Tuesday, April 30, 2019, at his home.

Born in Oconee County, he was a son of the late Fred Ben Smith Sr. and the late Faye Tilson Smith. Bud was a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church and was retired from the electronics industry with Schlaforst in Charlotte, N.C.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia of the home; a daughter, Cindy Finley (Jeff); a stepdaughter, Tiffany Bryant (Curtis); a stepson, Tim Surrett; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Maybeline Moore (Cecil); and a brother, Derrill Smith (Betty).

Mr. Smith was predeceased by his parents; a daughter, Kristia Smith Dodgins; and a sister, Annette Ellenburg (Johnny).

The funeral service was held on May 3 at Rock Springs Baptist Church. Burial will be private.

MARY G. PAGE CHAMBERS

PICKENS — Mary G. Page Chambers, 92, originally from Edmondson County, Ky., formerly of Morristown, Tenn., passed away on Thursday, May 2, 2019, at PruittHealth Care.

She was retired from Our Lady of Peace Hospital in Louisville, Ky.

Survivors include a son, Randy E. (Pat-deceased) Chambers; daughters, Sandra M. (Darrell-deceased) Eastridge, Pennie (Doyle) Hundley and Edie (Joe) Stader; 15 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell E. Chambers, who pastored churches in Kentucky, Indiana and Tennessee; a son, Robert M Chambers; and a grandson, Nicholas Chambers.

A memorial service was held at Hamblen Memory Gardens on May 5 for friends and family. Arrangements were made by Mayes Family Services of Morristown. She was dearly loved and will be missed.

WAYNE F. HARRISON

CENTRAL — Wayne F. Harrison, 85, passed from this life on Thursday, May 2, 2019.

Born in Liberty, he was a son of the late Wayne F. Harrison Sr. and the late Mary Beatrice Greene Harrison. Wayne was a member of Faith Baptist Church, a Mason in the Tate 292 Lodge, a Hejaz Shriner and known to all as a musician and a lover of music, especially country music.

Survivors include a brother, Randall (Elinda) Harrison of Central; nephews, Keith (Andrea) Harrison and Allen Harrison; and great nieces and nephews, R.D. Mauldin, Johnny Smith, Debbie Gaillard, Andra Terry, Abby Simms, Jerry Harrison, Cally Barton and Kendall Harrison.

Wayne was predeceased by his parents; a sister, Carolyn Patricia Harrison; and a brother, Dale Harrison.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

DAVID H. GILSTRAP

NORRIS — David Harold Gilstrap, 81, of 170 Windy Court, died on Tuesday, April 30, 2019, at Fleetwood Health and Rehab in Easley.

Born in Liberty, he was the son of the late J.B. and Annie Bell Stewart Gilstrap. Mr. Gilstrap was retired from Randolph Trucking and was a U.S. Navy veteran. He was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are his former wife and best friend, Sue Gilstrap Van Raalte of Easley; a son, Kenny Gilstrap of Easley; two sisters, Doris Burgess of Norris and Martha Gibson of Walhalla; two brothers, Sammy Gilstrap of Pickens and Joe Gilstrap of Easley; and two granddaughters, Abby Kay Gilstrap and Alyssa Mae Gilstrap, both of Easley.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son, David Alan Gilstrap, and an infant son; and two brothers, Herbert and Pete Gilstrap.

Graveside services to honor the life of Mr. Gilstrap were held on May 6 at Liberty Memorial Gardens.

ALFRED “AL” G. MOUGHLER

EASLEY — Mr. Alfred “Al” Glen Moughler, 86, husband of the late Grace Imogene Moughler, passed away on Thursday, May 2, 2019, at St. Francis Hospital – Downtown.

Born in Flushing, Mich., a son of the late Virgil Raymond and Tishia Ellen Moughler, Mr. Moughler retired in 1984 as a foreman for the city of Flint, Mich., Water Department. He enjoyed sports and traveling with his family.

Surviving are a son, Walter Moughler (Debbie) of Bakerfield, Calif.; a daughter, Ellen Meadow (Donald) of Flint, Mich.; a sister, Delphaine Clark (Donald) of Mesa, Ariz.; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

The family will host a private memorial service at a later date.

Family members are at their respective homes.

PAULINE HALL

CENTRAL — Pauline Pilgrim Hall, 77, of 231 Camp Creek Road, passed away on Friday, May 3, 2019, at Oconee Memorial Hospital.

Born in Six Mile, she was the wife of David Samuel Hall and a daughter of the late Leroy Furman and Nina Pinion Pilgrim. She was a homemaker and enjoyed spending time with her family, walking and being outdoors. She was a member of Camp Creek Baptist Church.

Surviving, in addition to her husband, are four sons, Timothy Hall (Mary Ann) of Easley; Tony Hall of Pickens, Roger “Buck” Hall (Valerie) of Norris and Johnny Leroy Hall (Lani) of Central; three brothers, Junior, Jerry and J.D. Pilgrim, all of Six Mile; 12 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by an infant son, Thomas Hall; six sisters, Edith Cartee, Hazel Rampey, Katie Maxey, Christine Pilgrim, Mildred Dodson and Ovaline Marcus; and four brothers, Furman, David, Donald Lee and Billy Joe Pilgrim.

Funeral services to honor the life of Mrs. Hall were held on May 5 at Camp Creek Baptist Church. Burial followed at Faith Baptist Church Cemetery.

JOHN ROBERT “BOBBY” DAPPER JR.

EASLEY — John Robert “Bobby” Dapper Jr., 62, passed away on Thursday, May 2, 2019, at his home in Easley.

Born on May 2, 1957, Bobby loved nature and being outdoors. He had a loving personality and enjoyed Hot Wheels toy cars.

A graveside service was held on May 7 at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

RANDALL CARL GEORGIA

CLEVELAND — Randall C. Georgia, 80, husband of Virginia Murphy Georgia, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, May 4, 2019, at his home.

Born in Amsterdam, N.Y., he was a son of the late Rev. Francis Ruez Georgia and the late Ruth Alice Meyers Georgia. Mr. Georgia was retired from the construction business as a builder, where his skill as a craftsman in wood working was exhibited. Also, he was a deacon and a member of Oolenoy Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia, of 61 years of the home; two daughters, Tammy Willis of Easley and Tanya Smith (David) of Easley; two sons, Ricky Georgia (Rosanne) of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Donald Georgia of St. Petersburg, Fla.; a brother, Ronald Georgia (Donna) of Pigeon Forge, Tenn.; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Georgia was predeceased by his parents.

A memorial service was held on May 8 in the chapel of Mountain View Funeral Home.

DEBORAH SONNER

PICKENS — Deborah Joyce Breazeale Sonner, 67, passed away at her home in Pickens.

Born in Greenville County on Jan. 17, 1953, she was the daughter of the late Guy and Betty Joan Herron Breazeale. Deborah was a retired business owner and enjoyed shopping and riding her custom-built Trike.

Surviving are her two daughters, Cindy Ramirez (Valentine) of Rayne, La., and Stephanie Wason (Dan), of Wildwood, Fla.; and their father, Roger Grim, of Creston, W. Va.; one stepson, Steven Sonner of Stuart, Fla.; one brother, Noice Breazeale of Fountain Inn; three grandchildren, Ryan Padgett of Vero Beach, Fla., Ashley Diaz of Tampa, Fla., and Gauge Simmons of Vero Beach, Fla.; and many loving great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A private family graveside service will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Park, with the Rev. Danny Posey officiating.

STEPHEN A. LYNN

EASLEY — Mr. Stephen Andrew Lynn, 67, passed away at Whitten Center in Clinton on Saturday, May 4, 2019.

Stephen was born in Greenville County, the beloved son of the late LeRoy and Geneva Lynn.

He is survived by his brother, Fred Lynn (Joni) of Nashville, Tenn.; two sisters, Carol Lynn Gambrell (Cliff King) of Hendersonville, N.C., and Karen Lynn Mann (Coye), of Atlanta, Ga.; three nieces; and two nephews.

Stevie was cherished by his entire family and taught all who knew him the true meaning of unconditional love. He will be greatly missed.

The family would like to thank the staff of Whitten Center, especially the 205 building. Whitten Center was his home for 50 years.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 8, in the Whitten Center Chapel, with a 10:30 a.m. visitation to be held prior to the service.

Graveside services will follow at 3 p.m. at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Pickens.

JUSTIN STILLWELL

PICKENS — Staff Sgt. Justin Stillwell, 28, passed away on Monday, April 29, 2019.

Born in Greenville, he attended Pickens High School and was the son of Virginia Stillwell. Justin enjoyed being outdoors and fishing. He was of the Christian faith and active in the U.S. Army.

Also surviving are his son, Caleb Blake Stillwell, and his mother, Kathrine Bowen; two brothers, Eric Russell and James “Jim” Stillwell Jr. and his wife, Tonya; three nieces, Brianna, Kendra and Madison; one nephew, Joseph; and one brother-in-law, Steve Morgan. Justin was predeceased by one sister, Gloria Morgan.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 9, 2019, from 2-3:30 p.m. at Hillcrest Memorial Park Mausoleum chapel, with funeral services to follow at 3:30 p.m. in the mausoleum chapel.

BELTON — Charles D. Lowery, 58, formerly of Liberty, passed from this life on Friday, May 3, 2019.

Born in Pickens County, he was a son of Glenn Forest Lowery of Belton and the late Bonnie Lou Patterson Lowery. Charles loved music and had an appreciation of the outdoors with his love of fishing. He was a United States Navy veteran.

Survivors include his father, Glenn Forest Lowery of Belton; his children, Josh Lowery of Charleston, Katie (Travis) Grimes of Charleston and Travis Lowery of Belton; and two brothers, Greg Lowery and Mark (Angie) Lowery.

Charles was predeceased by his mother, Bonnie Lou Patterson Lowery.

A Graveside service was held on May 7 at Rice’s Creek Baptist Church cemetery.

FAY BROCK

LIBERTY — Fay Hollar Brock, 88, of 107 Meadow Lane, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 5, 2019, at Brookdale of Easley.

Born in Asheville, N.C., she was a daughter of the late Ralph and Sophie Blair Hollar. She was a homemaker and a member of Liberty United Methodist Church. During her free time, she loved crafting.

Surviving are her husband of 63 years, Edgar H. “Bud” Brock of the home; a daughter, Cindy Tinsley (Russ) of Pickens; a son, Dennis Brock of Easley; her twin brother, Ray Hollar of Weaverville, N.C.; two grandchildren, Keri Jo Brock and J.J. Brock (Tracey); and a great-granddaughter, Brysie Jo Brock.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by six brothers, Lee, Paul, Henry, Larry, Harry and Ralph Hollar; and four sisters, Pauline Licovitch, Frances Warren, Catherine Raymer and Juanita Hall.

Graveside services to honor the life of Mrs. Brock will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Thursday, May 9, at Forest Lawn Cemetery, 1498 Sand Hill Road, Candler NC 28715.

CENTRAL — David Aaron Washburn, 34, formerly of Browning Road in Central, died on Saturday, May 4, 2019, in Easley.

Born in Easley, he was the son of Gabriel Chauncy and Cindy Ranew Washburn of Central. He was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving, in addition to his parents, are two sisters, Hannah Washburn Robb and her husband, David, of Charlotte, N.C., and Delanie Washburn of Central; and two nephews, Cohan and Callum Robb of Charlotte, N.C.

A memorial service for Aaron will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 9, in the Liberty Mortuary chapel. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.

PHIL PATTERSON

LIBERTY — Phil Patterson, 66, of 112 Ivey Drive, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 29, 2019, at St. Francis Hospital.

Born in Greenville, he was a son of the late Hoyt and Juanita Mason Patterson.

He was a graduate of Liberty High School and Tri-County Technical College. He was retired from Singer Company and the S.C. Commission for the Blind.

He was a member of the Liberty Lions Club and was former president of the Pickens County Chapter of the National Federation of the Blind for many years.

Phil was a faithful member of Northside Baptist Church and loved music, especially playing his bass guitar.

Surviving are his wife, Jane Patterson of the home; a daughter, Christi Bearden (Kevin) of Liberty; a sister, Cindy Cope (Robert) of Liberty; a brother, Danny Patterson (Karen) of Liberty; and two grandchildren, Skyler and Hunter.

Per Phil’s request, private graveside services will be held later at Liberty Memorial Gardens.

The family will be at the home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Northside Baptist Church, 421 Sangamo Road, Pickens SC 29671.

MARY ANN STANSELL

EASLEY — Mary Ann Sudduth Stansell, 76, wife of the late Bruce Kenneth “Red” Stansell, passed away on Tuesday, April 30, 2019.

Born in Pickens County, she was a daughter of the late Herman F. Sudduth and Pearl Josie Rampey Sudduth.

Mrs. Stansell was retired from the School District of Pickens County and Gettys Middle School and was a faithful member of Rock Springs Baptist Church and the church choir. She loved her family dearly and enjoyed solving puzzles and word searches, reading maps, going to the beach, cooking, gardening and anxiously watching the Clemson Tigers.

A special thank you to Rachel from Interim Healthcare for the outstanding and compassionate care given to Mrs. Stansell during her illness.

Surviving are her children, Angela Stansell Willis (Rick) and Bradley Kenneth Stansell, all of Easley; grandchildren, Blake Willis and Brett Willis; a sister, Barbara Cameron (Cam) of Fletcher, N.C.; a brother, Troy Sudduth (Joyce) of Easley; a brother-in-law, Joel Simmons of Easley; and many beloved nieces, nephews and extended family.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Linda S. Simmons, and a brother, Marvin Sudduth and wife, Violet.

A graveside service was held on May 3 at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Easley.
