ELIZABETH F. BOWERS
CENTRAL — Elizabeth F. “Lib” Bowers, 92, a resident of Brookdale Assisted Living in Central, entered into eternal rest on Monday, June 14, 2021.
She was born in Piedmont on Sept. 1, 1928, to Esley and Nettie Freeman. She was the widow of Bill G. Bowers, Sr.
Lib was mother to six sons, Gaines Bowers Jr. (Mary Ann) of Lincolnton, N.C., Michael Bowers (Ella Mae) of Wellford, Ed Bowers of Seneca, John Bowers (Phyllis) of Easley, Phillip Bowers (Marsha) of Six Mile and George Bowers (Crystal) of Six Mile. She and her beloved husband raised their children with love and devotion in Six Mile.
Lib and Bill met while working in a textile mill, and they were married on July 3, 1948. Her primary vocation was as a mother and homemaker, and she used her secretarial skills in a number of Pickens County offices, from which she was retired, and at Lawrence Chapel United Methodist Church in Central. She was an excellent cook and a gifted seamstress and enjoyed needlework. Loving her family was her greatest joy.
In addition to her sons, she is survived by her brother, Curtis Freeman; her grandchildren, Michael N. Bowers, Charles Bowers, Jonathan Bowers and Elizabeth B. Brewer; her great-grandchildren, Payton Bowers, Luke Bowers, Julia Bowers, Annabelle Brewer, Cayden Brewer and William Brewer; and a host of nieces and nephews. She will be fondly remembered by many friends, young and old, far and near.
In addition to her husband of 69 years, she was predeceased by her parents, her brothers, James Freeman and W.T. Freeman, her sister, Clara F. Rushton, and her grandson, Michael Hill.
The family will hold a reception from 12:30-1:45 p.m. at Grace United Methodist Church in Pickens on Wednesday, June 16, followed by a service of death and resurrection at 2 p.m. conducted by the Rev. Mr. David Taylor and the Rev. Mike Bowers. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

VELMA ANN CHAPMAN HENDRIX
CENTRAL — Velma Ann Chapman Hendrix, 70, wife of Jimmy Drew Hendrix, of 163 Sheriff Road, passed away on Tuesday, June 8, 2021, at AnMed Medical Center.
A native of Central, Mrs. Hendrix was the daughter of the late Weldon Smith Chapman and Velma McNeely Chapman. She retired as a kindergarten assistant with the School District of Pickens County. Mrs. Hendrix was a member of Cannon Memorial Baptist Church, where she was a member of the choir and children’s ministry and served as a Sunday school teacher for more than 40 years.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Hendrix is survived by her son, Tim Hendrix (Heather) of Walhalla; daughter, Hope Shirley (Kendall) of Norris; grandchildren, Peyton and Morgan Hendrix and Anna Grace Shirley; and nieces, Judy Lynn Black (JL) and Amy Campbell.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hendrix was preceded in death by her sister, Haveline Hall Davis.
Funeral services were conducted on June 11 at Cannon Memorial Baptist Church, with burial following at Memory Gardens in Central.

ELBERT CLIFTON CRENSHAW
SIX MILE — Mr. Elbert Clifton Crenshaw, 80, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, June 13, 2021.
Mr. Crenshaw was born in Oconee County and was the son of the late James Ernest Crenshaw and Mary Elizabeth Moore Crenshaw and was the loving husband for 56 years to Kathy Masters Crenshaw.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Brian Crenshaw (Nancy) of Easley; and a daughter, Stephanie Gibson (Scott) of Pickens. Surviving are grandchildren, Cody Gibson (Jessica), Eric Crenshaw and Jerianne Gibson; and one most precious and loving great-grandchild, Oaklee Gibson. Also surviving are brothers, J. C. Crenshaw of Greer; and two sisters, Elizabeth Pruitt of Inman and Eula Hinson of Greer.
Mr. Crenshaw was predeceased by brothers, Frank, James E. Jr. and Edward Crenshaw.
Mr. Crenshaw was a longtime member of Gap Hill Church of God. He served in the United States Army and retired from Oconee Nuclear Station. He enjoyed his hunting and his woodworking projects, but loved most of all his travels in the mountains with his wife and family. He did not meet any strangers and always loved a good conversation. He will be truly missed by family.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 17, at 3 p.m. at Dillard Funeral Home chapel, with a visitation that same day starting at 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Pickens.

SUSAN DEIDRE PIERCE
Pickens — Susan Deidre Pierce, 60, wife of the late Michael D. Pierce, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Thursday, June 10, 2021.
Susan was born in Easley, a daughter of David Franklin and Ora Eugenia Winchester Porter of Pickens. Always the caregiver, Susan formerly served as a surgical technician at both Easley Baptist Hospital and Oconee Memorial Hospital. Later she worked as a telecommunications specialist with Oconee, Pickens and Anderson counties. At Anderson, she served as a supervisor and trainer.
Susan loved life, had a quick wit and made it her mission to look after others, especially her parents and her furry baby, Gracie.
Survivors include her parents, David and Eugenia Porter of the home; her sister, Kerri Porter Crisp (Steve); sister-in-law, Anita B. Porter; and nieces and nephews, Tara Porter McGowan (Daniel), Kelly David Porter, David Justin Harris (Tiffany) and Reeci Porter Bryant (Josh).
Susan was preceded in death by her brother, James David “Jimmy” Porter.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 18, in the mausoleum chapel at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Pickens at 1 p.m., with the Rev. Jeff Harris officiating.

CAROLYN GUEST CARTLEDGE
SENECA — Carolyn Guest Cartledge, 83, passed peacefully at home to be with the Lord on Friday, June 11, 2021, after a long battle with lung cancer.
Carolyn was born Sept. 18, 1937, in Elbert County, Ga., to Robert Emerson Guest (RE) and Elna Ruff (Sis), both deceased.
She married her sweetheart, Pierce Lyndal Cartledge (Lyndal), on June 11, 1955, 66 years to the day. Carolyn is survived by her beloved husband; sister, Louise Denard of Elberton, Ga.; children, Mitchell Cartledge (Page) of Morganton, N.C., Sherry Yow (Charles) of Hickory, N.C., and Christopher Cartledge (Jennifer) of Seneca; grandchildren, Mathew Yow (Lisa) and Pierce and Hannah Cartledge; and great-grandchildren, Miles, Adler, Whitaker and Cohen. She had numerous beloved family and friends in Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina and beyond.
Carolyn was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Gifted with a tender heart, jubilant spirit, easy generosity, treasured quick wit and a contagious laugh, she made all easy with her colorful and loving expressions. She was a passionate gardener, avid reader, incredible cook and beautiful ball room dancer with her cherished partner, Lyndal. Her determination to be joyful about life, despite circumstances, was witnessed even as the night grew dark, as she used those dancing skills to make her family laugh. Her tiny stature contained a massive spirit that indelibly impacted all those who were blessed to spend any time in her presence.
A service of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 26, at Reedy Fork Baptist Church, 115 E. Reedy Fork Road, Seneca, SC with Dr. Von Reynolds officiating.
FRANCES HALL
ANDERSON — Frances Tallent Hall, 91, of Anderson, died on Saturday, June 12, 2021, at her home.
Born in Atlanta, Ga., she was the widow of William Horace Hall Sr. and a daughter of the late Johnnie Estele and Viola McAlister Tallent.
Mrs. Hall was an accountant for many years for Kraft Foods. She was a member of Glen Haven Baptist Church in Stockbridge, Ga.
She loved to garden and read, but most of all loved traveling with her husband.
Surviving are a daughter, Bonnie Stubblefield of Anderson, and a grandson, Steven Skoda of Anderson.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Farr.
Memorial services to honor the life of Mrs. Hall will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 24, at Glen Haven Baptist Church, 345 E. Lake Road, McDonough, GA 30252.

JEANETTE LEE TODD
SENECA — Jeanette Lee Todd, 83, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Tuesday, June 8, 2021, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Seneca on Oct. 11, 1937, she was the daughter of the late William and Hattie Taylor Lee.
Mrs. Todd was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Seneca. She was a retired office manager who worked in the medical field. As a beloved member of her community, she will be missed by many.
She is survived by her son, Tim Todd (Rhonda), and daughters, Julie Perry (Don) and Jennifer Rochester (John.) Also left to share in her memory are eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Max Todd.
The family held a memorial service at Trinity Baptist Church in Seneca on June 11.

ERNEST TALMADGE CASH
SENECA — Ernest Talmadge Cash, 80, passed away on Tuesday, June 8, 2021, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Toccoa, Ga., he was the son of the late Judge Lester and Naomi Patrick Cash.
Ernest was a member of Seneca Masonic Lodge No. 185 and also a Shriner.
Survivors include a son, Dayton Cash; a daughter, Sherry Cash Hill; three sisters, Jean Youngblood, Opal Colston and Betty Wright; and one brother, Frank Cash. Ernest also leaves four grandchildren, Kristen Hill, John Hill, Jaida Williams and Kristianna Williams; and five great-grandchildren to share in his memory.
A funeral service was held on June 12 at Keowee Funeral Services. Burial followed at Oconee Memorial Park in Seneca.
The family is accepting flowers.
TAMMY R. CHILDRESS
EASLEY — Tammy R. Childress, 60, wife of the late Stanley Childress, passed from this life on Friday, June 11, 2021.
Born in Anderson County, Tammy was a daughter of the late Arthur M. and Dorothy Brooks Fant.
Survivors include two sons, Jody Childress and Todd Childress of Pickens; a grandson, J.J. Childress; a great-grandchild; three sisters, Margaret Barr (Melvin) of Easley, Geraldine Cutty (Charlie) of Easley and Gladys Ramey of Pickens; and a brother, Jerry Fant (Vicky) of Easley.
Visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 16, in the chapel of Mountain View Funeral Home, with the funeral service to follow at 11 a.m. officiated by Rev. Joe Anders. Burial was held at Greenlawn Memorial Park.

MARY ZORN
CATEECHEE — Mary Bryant Tate Zorn, 101, of 110 North St., went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, June 8, 2021, at the home of her daughter in Norris.
Born on May 12, 1920, in Six Mile, she was a daughter of the late Chesley McDaniel and Cora Henderson Bryant.
Mrs. Zorn retired from Woodside Mills and later worked at Riverside Fashions and Seniors Unlimited cleaning offices. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Norris.
She was a hard worker and enjoyed spending time with her family. She was the youngest of 13 children and the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Surviving are a daughter, Ginger Haynes (Don) of Norris; a daughter-in-law, Jerry Tate of West Union; five grandchildren, Teri Bynum (Jimmy), Shana Hawk (Gentry), Angie Bryant (Cevin), Rev. Brad Haynes (Regina) and Missy Sammons (Ken); 15 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Gamuel Tate; a granddaughter, Amanda Tate; and a grandson, Todd Haynes.
Funeral services were conducted on June 11 in the Liberty Mortuary chapel. Burial was held at Liberty Memorial Gardens.

MYRTLE SMITH PACE
SENECA — Myrtle Smith Pace, 92, wife of the late Alonzo K. Pace, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Monday, June 7, 2021.
Born in Newry on July 5, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Walter Alvin and Annie Pearl Wallace Smith.
Mrs. Pace was a member of Lydia Baptist Church. She retired from Itron, where she worked in electrical meter production.
She is survived by her daughter, Beverly Pace Duncan of Seneca; grandchildren, Kerri Heilbrun (Jason) of Scappoose, Ore., Brandon Duncan (Crystal) of Westminster, Kassidy Duncan of Westminster and Cole Duncan of Westminster; and great-great-grandson, Kaden Price of Westminster.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Pace was preceded in death by a brother, Alvin Smith; and a sister, Opal Smith Rhodes.
Graveside services were held at Oconee Memorial Park on June 10.

SAMMY H. STEWART SR.
EASLEY — Sammy Hugh Stewart Sr., 78, passed away on Saturday, June 5, 2021, at his home.
Born on Oct. 12, 1942, he was a son of the late Jack B. Stewart and Geneva Wardlaw Stewart.
Mr. Stewart was retired owner and operator of Stewart Drywall. He was a member of West End Baptist Church for more than 40 years and enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching old western movies and NASCAR. He also raced at Greenville-Pickens Speedway when he was young.
Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Patricia “Pat” Surratt Stewart; his children, Sammy Hugh Stewart Jr. (Allison) and Teletha Stewart Rider, all of Easley, Scott Stewart (Sonya) of Piedmont and David Lynn Stewart of Easley; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and sisters, Sandy Stewart and Becky Edens, both of Easley.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a son, Timothy Jackson; sisters, Carolyn Stewart and Deborah Roby; and brothers, Daniel, Jackie, Billy and Stevie Stewart.
Funeral services were held on June 9 at West End Baptist Church, with burial following at Greenlawn Memorial Park.

FRANCES ELEANOR BAKER DICKARD
PICKENS — Frances Eleanor Baker Dickard, 87, wife of the late James Farrell Dickard Sr., went home to be with the Lord on Monday, June 7, 2021, following a courageous battle with vascular dementia.
A daughter of the late Miles Lee and Lillian Looper Baker, Frances was born in Dacusville and lived her whole life in Pickens County.
Frances was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and sister who served her family with a selfless heart of love. She was an excellent cook, seamstress and caregiver. She was a member of Pickens First Baptist Church, where she helped to initiate the Operation Christmas Child shoebox ministry.
Survivors include her three daughters, Kathy Ravan (Joe) of Easley, Carol Dickard of Pendleton and Linda Few (Larry) of Six Mile; two sons, Jimmy Dickard (Georgia) of Pickens and Bryan Dickard (Ginger) of Easley; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ruth Davis of Greenville and Barbara Hawkins (Charles) of Travelers Rest; and two brothers, Harry Baker (Kathryn) and Roy Baker (Carol), both of Easley.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Dickard was predeceased by her brother, James Baker.
A graveside service was held on June 9 at Hillcrest Memorial Park, officiated by Rev. Jeff Stewart.

SALEM — Diana Keener Williams 53, wife of Ted R. Williams, passed away on Sunday, June 6, 2021, at her home, surrounded by her family.
Mrs. Williams was the daughter of the late Lardell Allen Keener and Glenn Roy Keener.
Survivors include her husband of 18 years; two daughters, Hannah Flynn (Zachary) of Inman and Amy Canton (Jamie) of Fairview, N.C.; three sons, Daniel Spruill of Asheville, N.C., Matthew Williams of San Diego, Calif., and Clark Williams of Greenville; one sister, Carolyn Caldwell (John) of Salem; two brothers, Steven Keener of Saluda, N.C., and Michael Keener (Nina) of Asheville, N.C.; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on June 9 at the Mountain View Funeral Home chapel. Burial was held at M.J. “Dolly” Cooper Veterans Cemetery.
Mrs. Williams was predeceased by her parents.

ALICE FAYE GAINES
ANDERSON — Alice Faye Gaines, 63, passed away on Saturday, June 12, 2021, at Condor Health in Anderson.
Born on Oct. 21, 1957, in Seneca, she was the daughter of the late Bert and Alice Craig Johnson.
Ms. Gaines was a member of Christ Community Church of Seneca. She was a retired secretary from the textile industry.
Surviving Ms. Gaines are one son, Dennis Danielle Skelton; brothers, David Johnson, Thomas Johnson, Walter Johnson, Melvin Johnson, Bobby Johnson and Donnie Johnson; and grandchildren, Conner Lee, Makayla Skelton, Ciara Skelton and Ke-Shawn Skelton.
Ms. Gaines was preceded in death by sisters, Ova Jean Bowens and Nellie Verner; and brothers, Willie Johnson, James Johnson, Lawrence Johnson, Johnny Johnson and Dale Johnson.
The family will receive friends on Friday, June 18, from 6-8 p.m. at Keowee Funeral Services.
Funeral services will be Saturday, June 19, at 1 p.m. at Christ Community Church in Seneca.
Burial will follow at Wildwood Cemetery in Seneca.

ALICE RACHEL BURRELL
SENECA — Alice Rachel Burrell, 86, passed away on Friday, June 11, 2021, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Seneca on Sept. 9, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Clyde and Dura Ramage Donald.
Ms. Burrell was of the Church of God faith. She was excellent at knitting, baking and sewing, which she enjoyed very much. She was a retired nurse’s aide, where she served many families in the Oconee area.
She is survived by her children, Sherryl Brown (Barry) of Greer, Denver Burrell (Anna) of Tamassee, Holly Burrell Holden (Donnie) of Tamassee and William Eric Burrell of Tamassee. Also left to share in her loving memory are her grandchildren, Tonya Burrell Parks (Richard), Jennifer Burrell Blalock, Chris Roughton (Heather), Christa Holden Alexander and Whitley Sleghorn; great-grandchildren, Ryland Parks, Greyson Parks, Jessica Brissey, Amber Ramey, Jude Roughton, Chevy Alexander and Denver Alexander; and a great-great-grandchild, Trinity Smith.
In addition to her parents, Ms. Burrell was predeceased by a granddaughter, Cassie Holden Meyers.
A graveside service was held at Oconee Memorial Park on June 13.

JESSIE ‘LEROY’ LEWIS
EASLEY — Jessie “Leroy” Lewis, 94, husband of the late Ruth Forrest Lewis, passed away on Saturday, June 12, 2021.
Leroy was born on July 27, 1926, son of the late John Fletcher Lewis and Ida Mae Massingill Lewis. He was a 1943 graduate of Six Mile High School. Leroy retired from JP Stevens and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He and his wife enjoyed extensive travel across our nation. He loved his Lord and Savior and was a member of Cedar Rock Baptist Church.
Along with his parents, Leroy was preceded in death by one brother, Calvin Lewis (Inez); one sister, Maebelle Bryant (Buren); and one nephew, Randolph Bryant (Carolyn).
Surviving are one sister, Gladys Pace Corcoran; one niece, Modena Moss (Larry); one nephew, Lewis Pace (Carolyn); and numerous great-nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on June 15 at Dillard Funeral Home, with Rev. Wayne Garmon and Rev. James Brown officiating. Burial followed the services at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

JOAN CASSELL CADDELL
EASLEY — Joan Cassell Caddell, 70, wife to the late Lenard N. Caddell, passed away on Thursday, June 10, 2021.
Born in Easley, she was the daughter of the late Hovie and Jacqulea Evatt Cassell. Joan worked for many years with the Byars Agency and was retired from Glenco. She was a member of United Wesleyan Church, where she was active in the Joy Club. Mrs. Caddell enjoyed exercising, hiking, running, walking and most of all spending time with her grandsons.
She is survived by her daughters, Megan Ellenburg (Charlie) of Marietta and Monica Masters (Michael) of Liberty; brother, Jarrett Cassell (Paula) of Easley; and grandchildren, Mason Masters, Mitchell Masters, Chaz Ellenburg and Cruz Ellenburg.
Funeral services were held on June 13 at United Wesleyan Church. Burial followed at Greenlawn Memorial Park.

FAIRY MOSER LAWING
PICKENS — Fairy Moser Lawing died on June 7, 2021.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Joe Lawing.
She was originally from Newton-Conover, N.C., and one of six children of Grady and Sarah Moser.
She leaves behind two sons, Joey Lawing, who is married to Marigale Lawing, and their daughter, Lindsey; and Lee Lawing, who is partnered with Clint Kendrick, and their son, Cole.

TEDDY WAYNE MCWHORTER
LIBERTY — Teddy Wayne McWhorter, 78, died on Wednesday, June 9, 2021, at his home.
Born in Anderson, he was the widower of Evelyn McWhorter and a son of the late Jesse E. and Olivia Burgess McWhorter.
Mr. McWhorter worked all his life in textiles and was a longtime member of Flat Rock Baptist Church.
Surviving are two daughters, Angela Abercrombie of Greenville and Melissa Gilbert (Tracy) of Liberty; four grandchildren, Kyle Parris, David Bradshaw, Olivia Gilbert and Bailey Gilbert; and two great-grandchildren, Mason Parris and Aspen Bradshaw.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by 12 brothers and sisters and was the last surviving member of his family.
Graveside services to honor the life of Mr. McWhorter were held on June 11 at the Flat Rock Baptist Church cemetery. No visitation is planned.
