MELVIN ‘PUDD’N’ ALEXANDER

SUNSET — Melvin Alexander (Pudd’n), 76, loving husband of 41 years to Carole Alexander, passed away on Monday, June 10, 2024, at his home.

Born May 1, 1948, in Pickens, Melvin was the son of the late Walter Alexander and Lelia Dutton Alexander. Melvin loved his family dearly. He enjoyed playing softball and he was an avid fisherman. He loved watching golf and watching the Clemson Tigers and Atlanta Braves.

Survivors include his wife, Carole Alexander of the home; a son, Jon Byers (Shannon) of Vale, N.C.; a daughter, Amanda Stewart (Jay) of Sunset; grandchildren, Keagan Black (Katie), Daulten Stewart (Anna), Cole Stewart, Tanna Stewart, Sara Byers, Greg Lowman, Dylan Lowman and Tommy Pace; great-grandchildren, Emma Black, Mary Beth Black, Jonah, Brooklyn, Trinity and baby girl Stewart on the way; a brother, Larry Alexander; daughter of the heart, Diane Fowler; hospice aid, Jackie; and many loving friends and family members.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Alexander was predeceased by a granddaughter, Hyland Byers; a sister, Mamie Lou; and three brothers, Charles Alexander, Jerry Alexander and Robert Alexander.

A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers or donations, the family of Mr. Alexander asks that he be honored and remembered by spending quality time with a child by teaching them how to fish, play ball or having a tea party with them.

CODY ALEXANDER COLEMAN

PIEDMONT — Cody Alexander Coleman, 32, passed away on Monday, June 10, 2024, in Piedmont.

Born Oct. 10, 1991, in Greenville County, Cody was the son of Charles Gregory Coleman and Pamela Jeannette Surett Coleman. Cody enjoyed fishing and working on cars. He will be deeply missed by all that knew and loved him.

Survivors include a daughter, Zoey Elmore of Florida; a son, Harper Coleman of Florida; a daughter, Alana on the way; girlfriend, Kendra Barbre; parents, Charles Gregory Coleman and Pamela Jeannette Surett Coleman; three sisters, Chelsie Brown (Devan) of Fountain Inn, Catelyn Parker (Berkley) of Pickens and Caylee Coleman (Drake Smith) of Piedmont; grandparents, Denise Price and Eric Price; grandmother, Laura Coleman; great-grandfather, James Surett; three nephews, Creyton Brown, Ryder Smith and Oakley Smith; and a niece, Weslynn Brown.

Mr. Coleman was predeceased by his grandfather, Charles Larry Coleman.

The family will held a memorial service on June 14, at Waycross Baptist Church, 104 Waycross Church Rd, Pelzer, SC 29669.

Flowers will be accepted.

The family will be at the home of his mother.

ROY ROGERS

EASLEY — Mr. Roy Kenneth Rogers, 82, passed away on Friday, June 14, 2024.

Roy was the son of the late Harley Levi Rogers and Carlis Kinsey Rogers Dorsey. He was a graduate of Anderson College, Clemson University and was employed by Multimedia Inc., WFBC Radio and TV, for more than 30 years. He and his wife owned and operated Rogers Child Care in Easley for 30 years.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Patricia McClain Rogers; a son, Eric Rogers (Michelle) of Easley; a daughter, Mary Alison Rogers of Easley; a grandson, Trent Rogers of Clemson; a great-grandson, Oliver; a sister, Frances Rogers of Taylors, and brother, William Rogers of Greer.

No services are planned per the wishes of Mr. Rogers.

LEILANI ‘JEANNIE’ JEAN WEBB

EASLEY — Leilani “Jeannie” Jean Webb, 82, of Easley, passed away on Tuesday, June 4, 2024.

Jeannie, as she was known to her family and friends, was born in Columbia, to the late Gonzales Harris and Alma Bragdon Harris.

A retired nurse (LPN), she had more than 25 years of service to the citizens of The Coastal Center in Ladson, S.C.
Jeannie had many hobbies. She loved to dance, fish, do word puzzles, play computer games, and enjoyed playing Bingo.

She loved her animals, also. Her favorite thing to do was to mow the lawn. Give her a glass of sweet tea and a cigarette, she would cut grass all day.
Jeannie is survived by her daughter Cynthia Shumpert (Chris) of Easley; daughter Terry Burgess (Jim) of Macedonia; grandchildren, Jessica Varner (Stephen), Loni Reyes and Joey Hall; great-grandchildren, Logan Reyes Shumpert, Maddie, Nora and Natalee Varner, and sister Linda Caldwell of Moncks Corner. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews to cherish her memory.

Jeannie was preceded in death by her parents of Moncks Corner; two brothers, Tommy and David Harris of Moncks Corner; and one sister, Joann Bath of Main.

Jeannie had many family and friends who loved her dearly. She will be missed by all.

We love you, Mom.

A celebration of life for Jeannie was held June 15.

LINDA GAIL MERCK

EASLEY — Linda Gail Merck, 77, of Easley, passed away on Tuesday, June 11, 2024 at her residence, surrounded by her family.

Linda was born on Nov. 18, 1946 to the late Oree and Ruby Alexander Finley.

She enjoyed spending time with her family and keeping up with her friends on Facebook. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were her world.

Linda is survived by her beloved husband of 60 years Richard Merck; son Kip Merck (Shana); daughter Keila Yoda; son-in-law Richard Moreno; grandchildren: Reygan Merck, Riley Moreno, Khaner Fox (Brent), Kameron Merck (Maddie), Keiana Austin (Josh) and Khalil Yoda; her great grandchildren, Carsyn Hutley, Tember Fox, Broncs Merck, Aubrey Elliott and Azlynn Elliott. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews to cherish her memory.

Linda was preceded in death by her parents; daughter Kim Moreno; siblings Kenneth Finley, Jerry Finley, and Judy Mealor.

A graveside service for Linda will be held on Friday, June 14, 2024, at 1:00 PM at Hillcrest Memorial Park, 2410 Gentry Memorial Hwy, Pickens.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Linda’s memory may be made to ALS Association or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

SAMUEL ‘SAMMY’ CECIL STEWART

LIBERTY —   Mr. Samuel “Sammy” Cecil Stewart, 66, loving husband to Denise Stewart, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, June 13, 2024.

Mr. Stewart was born on May 27, 1958, to the late Cecil and Doris Day Stewart. He was a faithful member of Flat Rock Baptist Church in Liberty, where he served as Deacon and Sunday School Teacher. Mr. Stewart loved studying his Bible, bee keeping, and was a master breeder of Bantam Chickens. He was a jack of all trades and always willing to help anyone in need. His favorite thing was to spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

In addition to his wife of 44 years, Mr. Stewart is survived by three children, Todd Stewart (Katie Lloyd), Megan Dillashaw (Derrick) and Craig Stewart (Hayley Zalkin); two grandchildren, Maebry Dillashaw and Charlie Stewart; and one brother Tony Stewart.

The funeral service were conducted on June 17, at Flat Rock Baptist Church, located at 115 Slab Bridge Rd, Liberty, SC 29657.

Sammy will be laid to rest at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Pickens following the service.

The family would like to a make a special thanks to the Dr. Suzanne Fanning and the staff at the Cancer Institute along with the staff at AIC, for their help in Sammy’s long fight with MDS.

CHARLES ANGUS AIKEN

 

PICKENS — Charles Angus Aiken, 83, passed away on Friday, June 14, 2024, at Rainey Hospice House in Anderson.

Born July 20, 1940, in Pickens, Charles was the son of the late Chester Barton Aiken, Sr. and Ruby Chastain Aiken. Mr. Aiken was a graduate of Pickens Senior High School and attended Clemson University. He retired as a major from the U.S. Army National Guard after 25 years of service and this was his proudest achievement. Charles was a reader. He also enjoyed sports and loved the Clemson Tigers and Carolina Gamecocks alike.

Survivors include his brother, Lynn C. Aiken (Ofelia) of Table Rock; two nephews, Lee Aiken and Dr. Barton Aiken; and a niece, Charlene Angel.

Mr. Aiken was predeceased by his parents.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 20 from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. in the chapel of Mountain View Funeral Home in Pickens with a memorial service to follow at 11 a.m.

KAY GAMBRELL SEWELL

LIBERTY — Mrs. Kay Gambrell Sewell, 85, stepped into Heaven on Thursday, June 13, 2024.

Mrs. Sewell was born on March 24, 1939, to the late Ernest and Etrulia Gambrell. She attended Crosswell Baptist Church and was a member of East Side Baptist Church. Mrs. Sewell loved her Lord, her family, reading mysteries, flowers, birds and porch sitting. She was retired from Judson Mill.

Mrs. Sewell is survived by two children: her daughter, Suzy Cannon (Eddy) and her son, Johnny Sewell (Donna); five grandsons, Andy Rogers (Katie), Eric Sewell (Caroline), Benji Rogers (Becca), Chris Sewell (Ginger) and Casey Rogers (Kristen); and 14 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Sewell was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Harold; and her two brothers, James Gambrell and Rev. Mickey Gambrell.

The funeral service was held on June 17 in the chapel of Dillard Funeral Home.

A visitation was held prior to the service in the Garden Room.

Mrs. Sewell was laid to rest at Hillcrest Memorial Park following the service in the chapel.

WANDA ALEXANDER ADAMS

PICKENS — Mrs. Wanda Alexander Adams, 57, loving wife of Danny Adams, went into the arms of Jesus on Wednesday, June 12th, 2024.

Wanda was born in Greenville on Jan. 11, 1967, to the late Shelby Jean Barnette and James W. Alexander.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She loved doing crafts of any kind, especially sewing, knitting, crocheting and making jewelry. Wanda was a faithful member of Secona Baptist Church for many years and a member of the Upcountry Quilters Guild.

Wanda is survived by her husband, Daniel “Danny” Adams Jr.; her daughter, Megan Trotter (Chris); her son, Trey Adams (Ryleigh); her daughter, Liza Lassausaie (Ethan); her grandchildren, Zaiden, Peyton, Preston and Bear; her mother-in-law, Shirley Adams, who was like a second mom to her; her sister, Teresa Edgar (Marty); her fur babies, Tucker, Duke and Kiwi; as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Wanda was preceded in death by her parents, James Alexander and Shelby Barnette Alexander, as well as her baby girl, Taylor Marie Bearden.

A visitation for Wanda was held on June 17 at Dillard Memorial Funeral Home.

The funeral service was held on June 18 at Secona Baptist Church. Mrs. Adams was laid to rest at Hillcrest Memorial Park, following the service in the church.

IONA ‘ONIE’ CANTRELL DODSON

SIX MILE— Iona “Onie” Cantrell Dodson, 93, passed away on Saturday, June 15, 2024.

Onie was born on June 30, 1930, to the late Bolt and Mae Cantrell. She was a member of Mountain View Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School in the children’s department for many years. Onie worked for Gilstrap’s Store and then at Deadwyler’s Shopping Center in Six Mile until it closed in 1977.

On May 8, 1948, Onie married James A. Dodson, who preceded her in death in 2015. Together they owned Celtic Foxhound Kennels, where they raised and trained Walker Fox Hounds which were sold all over the United States and Canada. Onie was also a gifted quilter, who made many beautiful quilts for her family and friends.

Onie is survived by her sisters, Margaret C. Brown of Inman, Wilma C. Burkett of Six Mile, and Linda N. Schreck (Dal) of Mt. Pleasant; as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her brothers and their wives, Heywood and Jean Cantrell and Horace and Martha Cantrell; her brothers-in-law, Brian R. Brown, Alvin G. Burkett, as well as a nephew, David Cantrell.

A graveside service will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Park at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 22.

Memorials may be made to Mountain View Baptist Church in Six Mile or to the charity of one’s choice.

 

MICHAEL DUNCAN

SIX MILE — Michael Duncan, a beloved member of the Six Mile community, passed away peacefully on June 15, 2024 following an extended illness.

Born in Easley, on Dec. 13, 1970, he was a son of Harold and Helen Camp Duncan.

He spent his entire career working in logging, first with his father, and most recently with Dustin Durham Logging.  Outside of logging, he found solace in fishing and cherished moments spent with his family.

Surviving, in addition to his parents of Six Mile, are a son, Austin Duncan (Alicia) of Six Mile; two grandchildren, Blake Duncan and Aubriella Duncan; also surviving are three nephews, Kevin Duncan, Kyle Duncan, and Dustin Duncan (Tiffany); along his great-nephew, Cameron; and great-niece, Peyton.

Funeral services to celebrate Michael’s life will be conducted on 2 p.m., Thursday, June 20 in the Liberty Mortuary chapel.  He will be laid to rest at Liberty Memorial Gardens.  The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at the mortuary.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Randall Duncan.

The family will be at the home of his parents, 160 Duncan Road, Six Mile SC.

BECKY HAMBY

LIBERTY — With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved Rebecca Rackley Hamby, who peacefully departed from this world on Thursday, June 13, 2024.

Born in Liberty, on March 17, 1947, she was a loving daughter to Mary Pettit Rackley and the late Charley Rackley.  She was a member of Ruhamah Baptist Church.

She dedicated her life to caring for others, serving as a CNA at Clemson Downs for many years. Her tender care and compassion touched the lives of many over the years, leaving a lasting impact on all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Surviving, in addition to her mother, are three sisters, Shirley Alexander (Pete), Ester Smith (Rondald) and Sarah Turner; two brothers, Eddie Rackley and Freddie Rackley (Joann); also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Kenneth F. Rackley and her infant brother, Marvin H. Rackley.

Funeral services to honor Becky’s life will be conducted at 11 a.m. on June 19 in the Liberty Mortuary chapel.  Burial will follow at Liberty Memorial Gardens.  The family will receive friends prior to the service from 9:30 until 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary.  As we come together to celebrate Becky’s life and honor her memory, let us remember her kind spirit and unwavering dedication to those in need. In her passing, she leaves behind cherished memories and a legacy of compassion that will be forever treasured by her family, friends, and the community she served. May she rest in peace.
