T. Eugene “Flip” Waldrop

Easley — T. Eugene “Flip” Waldrop, 71, passed away June 19, 2017.

Born in Greenville, he was the son of the late Clarence and Ada Waldrop. Eugene retired from Alice Manufacturing and was of the Baptist Faith.

Surviving are his two sons, Phillip Waldrop of Pendleton and Joshua Waldrop of Greenville; a sister, Mary Greene of Easley; and two grandchildren, Noah and Malachi.

He was predeceased by four brothers, JP, Roy, James and Randall.

Graveside services were held Thursday, June 22, 2017, at Greenlawn Memorial Park.

The family received friends Wednesday, June 21, at the Robinson Funeral Home – Downtown.

Almetia Newton

Liberty — Almetia Riggins Newton, 84, of 107 Annie St., Apartment 5, died Tuesday, June 20, 2017, at her residence.

Born in Six Mile, she was the daughter of the late Myrtie Riggins Revis. She was retired from Woodside Mills and was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are a son, Steve Newton (Libby) of Liberty; three grandchildren, Zachary and Matthew Newton and Tracie Hamilton, and a great-granddaughter, Addison Hamilton.

Funeral services to honor the life of Ms. Newton were held at 2 p.m. Friday, June 23, in the Liberty Mortuary chapel, with burial following at Greenlawn Memorial Park. A visitation was held Thursday, June 22, at Liberty Mortuary.

The family will be at the home of her son, Steve Newton, at 500 E. Main St. in Liberty. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The American Cancer Society.

Maxwell Franklin Wilson

Pickens — Maxwell Franklin Wilson, 85, the husband of Carolyn W. Wilson, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, June 18, 2017.

Born in Habersham County, Ga., he was the son of the late Ora Haskel “O.H.” and Toona Allen Wilson.

Surviving is his wife, Carolyn W. Wilson of Pickens; a son, Keith Alan Wilson (Lois) of Charleston; and a daughter, Pamela Wilson Woolen (Charles) of Queensland, Australia; five grandchildren, Maxwell Franklin Wilson II, Michael David Wilson and Keith Eric Wilson of Charleston, and Aaron Macon Woolen and Kylie Michelle Woolen of Queensland, Australia; a brother, Kenneth Wilson (Doris) of Taylors; two sisters, Eunice Wilson of Pickens and Joyce Clark of Lexington; and a brother in-law, Jerry Jones of Pickens.

Mr. Wilson was predeceased by his parents; a sister, Betty Jones of Pickens; a brother, Roy Wilson; and a brother-in-law, Jim Clark.

Funeral services were held Monday, June 26, at Dillard Funeral Home, with the Rev. Brandon Wimpey, the Rev. Robert Fowler and the Rev. Bill Mosley officiating. Interment followed the service at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens, with the Rev. Brandon Wimpey officiating.

Pickens — Billie Preston Dodgens, 84, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, June 19, 2017, at his home after a brief illness.

Born in Pickens County on Feb. 25, 1933, he was the son of the late Samuel Martin and Lucile Cantrell Dodgens. Founder and owner of Twelve Mile Grocery for 14 years, Billie retired from Pickens County. He was an avid breeder of goats and dogs. Billie was a member of Bethany Church of God and was always proud to share with everyone he met that he was the oldest male member. He was a U.S. Army veteran who served in the Korean Conflict.

Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Mrs. Dorothy “Dot” Grant Dodgens; one sister, Laura Hinds; and two brothers, Clyde Dodgens and Sammy Dodgens, all of Pickens. He was predeceased by one sister, Avenell, and two brothers, Maxwell and Douglas.

The family received friends on Wednesday, June 21, 2017, at Dillard Funeral Home.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, June 22, at 3 p.m. at Dillard Funeral Home chapel, with the Rev. Roger Stephens and the Rev. Doug Saylors officiating.

Entombment followed at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens Mausoleum, with the Rev. Ronnie Grant to officiate.

Angela Elrod

Liberty — Angela Wooten Elrod, 60, of 110 Bryson Drive, died Wednesday at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Born in Greenville, she was the wife of Steve Edward Elrod and a daughter of Melva Garrett Wooten Perry of Liberty and the late Walter Edward “Bud” Wooten. She enjoyed being outdoors, camping and fishing, as well as taking care of others, especially her mother. She was a member of Norris First Baptist Church.

Surviving, in addition to her husband and mother, are a sister and brother-in-law, Regina and Daniel Moore of Central, and a nephew, Ben Moore of Central.

Funeral services to honor the life of Mrs. Elrod were held June 24 in the Liberty Mortuary chapel. Burial followed at Greenlawn Memorial Park.

Carol Walters

Liberty — Dorothy Carol Swayngham Walters, 75, of 100 Stewart Gin Road, died Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at the home of her son, Scott.

Born in Pickens County, she was the widow of J.R. “Joe” Walters and was preceded in death by her father, Albert Eugene Swayngham, and her mother and stepfather, Sam and Frances Howe Dalton. She previously worked at Sir Shirt Makers and Champion Aviation. She was an avid wrestling fan and loved collecting ceramic and rock eggs from various places. She also enjoyed painting bird houses. Recently she had been attending church at The Bridge Church in Easley.

Surviving are a son, J. Scott Walters (Pat) of Liberty; two sisters, Shirley Garrison (Milt) and Judy Brooks (Ricky), both of Liberty; a stepbrother, Roger Dalton of Liberty; two grandchildren, Brook Caddell (George) and Paula Richardson; and two great-grandchildren, Blake and Jordan Richardson.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by a stepsister, Joan Coleman.

A graveside service to honor the life of Mrs. Walters was held June 23 at Westview Cemetery in Liberty.

Lindsay James ‘Chief’ Davis

Easley ­— Lindsay James Davis, 89, died Tuesday, June 20, 2017, at Richard M. Campbell Veterans Nursing Home in Anderson.

Born in Greenville, he was the widower of Nancy Sue Gillespie Davis and the son of the late Robert Fulton and Mildred Ruth Drice Davis. Mr. Davis was a retired veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served in World War II. Following his service in the Navy, he served eight years in the Merchant Marines. He was a member of Bates Masonic Lodge No. 235 A.F.M. and the Hejaz Shriners. He and his wife were the former owners of Old Market Antiques in Pickens. He was a member of Easley Church of God.

Surviving are two daughters, Beverly Derrick of Easley and Janet Dunn (Lynn) of Piedmont; a sister, Margaret L. Thrasher of Pickens; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by a daughter, Barbara White, and a brother, Edward L. Davis.

Funeral services for Mr. Davis were held June 23 at Easley Church of God. Burial with military honors followed at Westview Cemetery in Liberty.

Michelle K. Catalano

Easley — Michelle Kaplan Catalano, 68, of Easley, passed away peacefully on June 16, 2017, following a lengthy illness.

Born in New York, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Pearl Kaplan.

Surviving are her brother and sister-in-law, Bruce Kaplan and Yvonne Williams Kaplan of Easley; nieces, Sarah Alexander (Ron) and Kimberly Owens (Dallas); nephew, Richard Wilkey; and four grandnephews.

She loved playing with her dog, Sarge, watching Broadway shows, eating good food and was known for her dancing ability in her younger years. Mrs. Kaplan was also known for her generous heart and her willingness to help others in need.

The family will host a graveside service at a later date.

Aleen E. Dawkins

Easley — Aleen Elrod Dawkins, 92, of Easley, wife of the late George Wyatt Dawkins Jr., passed away Wednesday, June 23, 2017.

Born in Central, she was a daughter of the late Dewitt and Alice Berry Elrod.

Mrs. Dawkins was retired from the textile industry and was a member of Pendleton Street Baptist Church. She loved her family and friends and enjoyed gardening, solving puzzles and playing bingo.

Surviving are her daughter, Dianne Crawford (Rick Perry) of Campobello; grandchildren, Lisa Alexander (Khol) of Pickens and Michael Crawford (April) of Inman; great-grandchildren, Trent, Trevor and Kirk Alexander and Michael, Mathew and Jacob Crawford; and a great-great-granddaughter, Emilee Alexander.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by four siblings.

A graveside service was held on June 23 at Greenlawn Memorial Park, with the Rev. Scott Willis officiating.

Rev. Marion Paul Rampey

Easley — The Rev. Marion Paul Rampey, 89, the husband of Loretta Rampey, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, June 24, 2017.

Born in Piedmont, he was the son of the late John Samuel and Marian Blanche Major Rampey. Mr. Rampey was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean War. He obtained his AB Degree at Southern Wesleyan University and later obtained his Master’s Degree at Clemson University. One of his accomplishments in his career was starting the Belton Wesleyan Church. Mr. Rampey was also an alumni president of Central College and president of Buckingham Camp Meeting. Some of his pastimes were gardening, working with young people, teaching the Bible, writing sermons, working on small engines and woodworking.

Surviving is his wife, Martha Loretta Rampey of Easley; a son, Timothy Paul Rampey; a stepson, Gordon Smith; a granddaughter; Rena Herring (Jon); a grandson, Timothy Paul Rampey Jr. (Megan); a stepgranddaughter, Dana Smith Kelly; two brothers, Joe Rampey and Robert Rampey; and a sister, Doris Higgins.

Mr. Rampey was predeceased by his parents; his first wife, Marian Anne Rampey; four brothers, John W. Rampey, Curtis Rampey, Major Leon Rampey and Marshall Rampey; and three sisters, Helen Mullinax, Ruby McCall and Mary Sprouse.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, June 28, at 3 p.m. at Dillard Funeral Home, with the Rev. Paul Mullinax officiating. An inurnment will be at a later date at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Grove Station Baptist Church, 640 Piedmont Highway, Piedmont.

Donna Gillespie

Liberty — Donna Wade Gillespie, 66, of 441 Hillandale Road, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 20, 2017, at her residence.

Born in Greenville, she was a daughter of the late Alvin Wilson and Ruth Wyatt Wade.

She was a medical secretary for many years and was a member of Liberty First Baptist Church. She loved to spend time with her grandchildren.

Surviving are her husband, Eddy Gillespie of the home; two daughters, Nan Gillespie of Carolina Beach, N.C., and Meg Knieriem of Greenwood; two sisters, Debbie Moore and Sheryl Evatt, both of Liberty; and two grandchildren, Bode and Spencer Hooker.

Funeral services to honor Donna’s life were held on June 24 at Westview Cemetery in Liberty. The family received friends following the service.

Ruth R. Masters

Easley — Ruth Rowland Alexander Masters, 90, of Cedar Rock Church Road, passed away Sunday, June 25, 2017, at Baptist Easley Hospital.

Born in Pickens County, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Mattie Moore Rowland. Mrs. Masters was retired from Alice Manufacturing’s Arial plant and attended Missionary Baptist Church in Pickens.

Surviving are her son, Wayne Alexander of Salem; four grandchildren; a sister, Gail Rowland Taylor of Easley; and two brothers, Billy Rowland and Bobby Rowland, both of Easley.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband, Roy Alexander; her second husband, Lloyd Masters; a daughter, Pamela K. Barker; sisters, Louise Hall and Evelyn Pelfrey; and a brother, Edward Rowland.

The family received friends on June 27 at Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown, with a graveside service following at the Alexander Family Cemetery in Salem.

Jeanette Henson Mayes

Easley — Mrs. Jeanette Henson Mayes, 70, wife of the late Fred Palmer Mayes, passed away Sunday, June 25, 2017, at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Born in Shelby, N.C., a daughter of the late Richard Marion and Vernola Martin Henson, Mrs. Mayes was a graduate of Kings Mountain High School and retired from Wal-Mart. She was a member of Park Street Baptist Church.

Surviving are three sons, James, C.J. and Dewayne Mayes, all of Easley; a daughter, Sheryl Mayes of Easley; two sisters, Deborah Henson and Teresa Henson Greene, both of North Carolina; and a sister-in-law, Margaret Henson of North Carolina.

Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday, June 29, at Park Street Baptist Church. Family members are at their respective homes.

Dorothy Black Rhodes

Easley — Dorothy Black Rhodes, 57, the wife of Jimmy Dean Rhodes, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, June 23, 2017.

Born in Greenville, she was the daughter of the late John Harold and Martha Shirley Black.

Surviving are her husband of 39 years, Jimmy Dean Rhodes; a daughter, Lisa Christine Robinson (Brandon Earle); a son, James Thomas Rhodes; 10 grandchildren; and three sisters, Linda McMichael, Marilyn Williams and Martha Jane Davis.

Mrs. Rhodes was predeceased by her parents; two sisters, Donna Harper and Patricia Bearden; and a brother, James Black. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the Pruitt Hospice and to Mrs. Rhodes’ sisters, Linda McMichael, Marilyn Williams and Martha Jane Davis, for their love and support.
