Cora Lee Pickens
EASLEY — Peacefully on the morning of May 22, 2017, The Lord called Cora Lee Pickens home to get her eternal rest.
She was born on Oct. 30, 1938, to the late Waddy and Ethel Bowens. Cora was a lady of few words but had a heart of gold and would give her last to please others.
Cora passed away peacefully at Baptist Easley Hospital.
Cora was a hard worker and was an employee of Easley Living Center for many years
as a housekeeper until her health started to decline.
She was the wife of the late Andrew Pickens Sr., who preceded her in death. To this union, there were six children born, including Arthur Leon, Lillian Melinda and Walter Lee Pickens, who preceded her in death. Cora had a smile that would light up any room, and she loved her family.
She leaves to cherish many fond memories a loving daughter, Cindy L. Pickens of Lavonia, Ga.; two sons, Billy F. and Andrew Pickens Jr. of Easley; four grandchildren, Janersha and Monique Kirksey of Greenville, Sha’Cora Pickens of Easley and Andrew Henry of Belton; one loving brother, Arthur (Eunice) Bowens of Easley; Daisy Mae Goodine of Los Angeles and Betty Bowens of Toledo, Ohio; one brother-in-law, Jerry (Eleanor) Pickens of Easley; Dorothy Ware and Clara (John) Kirksey of Easley; a special niece, Jacqueline Pickens Westbrook (James) of Pinedale, Calif.; 10 great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

Doug Reddick
EASLEY — Mr. Douglas William Reddick, 48, passed away Saturday, May 27, 2017, at his home.
Born in Greenville County, the son of Amanda Davey McCall of Hilton Head, Mr. Reddick was employed with Pride Mechanical and was a U.S. Army veteran.
Surviving, in addition to his mother, are his fiancée, Sharon Elaine Sides of the home; a daughter, Alena Reddick of Easley; his stepfather, Ed McCall of Greenville; a stepbrother, Ed McCall of Greenville; his fur baby Husky, Sabine; and many friends across the globe.
Memorial services will be held at a later date.

Luther “Hambone” Wallace Heard Sr.
EASLEY — On May 5, 2017, before the sun was beginning to rise in the east, the Lord in his great wisdom dispatched an angel quietly to escort Luther Wallace Heard Sr., of 706 Pelzer Highway, Easley, out of this life to relocate to his new heavenly home.
Luther was the son of the late William Thomas Heard Sr. and Frances Blassingame.
Surviving are two sons, Luther Wallace “Bug” Heard Jr. and Keven Heard; four brothers, Thomas Heard, William Heard Jr., John Heard and George Heard; three sisters, Florence Austin, Emily Deas, and Joyce McFadden; three grandchildren and one great grandchild.
A homegoing celebration was held on May 13 at the New Foundation Missionary Baptist Church in Easley.

Margaret C. Hiles
Easley — Margaret Ann Camp Hiles, 84, of 118 Cedar Circle, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, June 2, 2017.
Born in Stephens County, Ga., she was a daughter of the late Thorie and Joyce Williams Camp.
Mrs. Hiles was retired from Baptist Easley Hospital and was a member of Welcome Missionary Baptist Church. She loved her family dearly, enjoyed growing flowers, cooking and riding around with her beloved husband in their 1950 Plymouth.
Surviving are her husband of 66 years, Billy N. Hiles of the home; daughters, Kathy Gwinn (Rev. Gary) of Easley and Marsha Prince (Larry) of Greenville; seven grandchildren, Mitch, Mali, Evan, April, Alisha and Patti; a stepgrandson, Roger; 12 great-grandchildren; a sister, Guynelle Jones of Easley; and a brother, Watson Camp of Easley.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Louise Gilstrap; a brother, Thomas Austin Camp; and a stepgrandson, Tim Prince.
Funeral services were held on Monday, June 5, at Welcome Missionary Baptist Church in Easley. Burial followed in Hillcrest Memorial Park in Pickens.

Ronnie Lee Brown
Easley — Ronnie L. Brown, 62 husband of Elizabeth “Libby” Baker Brown, passed from this life Saturday, June 3, 2017.
Ronnie was born in Anderson County. To be more specific, it was Possum Kingdom where he began his journey here on Earth. He is a son of the late Ernest and Gladys Crowe Brown.
Ronnie was the owner of Wolf Creek Taxidermy and a member of Tabor United Methodist Church. To know Ronnie was to know his love of hunting and fishing and his love of drag racing his Harley. Ronnie was one of the first to join the HDRA.
Survivors include his wife, Libby, of the home; a son, Josh Brown of Easley; a brother, Charles Yates of Greenville; and a sister, Cathy Riddlehoover of Raleigh, N.C.
For now, keep Ronnie’s memory in your heart by enjoying a fishing trip with someone or a hunting trip. A service will be held at a later date.

Linda Cantrell
PICKENS — Mrs. Linda Cassell Cantrell, 69, wife of the late W.A. “Dub” Cantrell, passed away Tuesday, May 23, 2017, at Cannon Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Cantrell was born in Pickens and was the daughter of the late Vera Powell Cassell and Ivy Valley “I.V.” Cassell. Mrs. Cantrell retired from driving a special needs bus for the School District of Pickens County. She was a member of Mountain Grove Baptist Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Roslyn Holcombe and husband, Chris; two sons, Reggie Cantrell and wife, Jennifer, and Richard Cantrell and wife, Stacy; and three granddaughters, Abby Holcombe Baker, Maggy Holcombe and Jessa Cantrell. Mrs. Cantrell is also survived by a sister, Reneé Cassell Stewart, and brother, Stanley Cassell.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Cantrell was also predeceased by her husband, W.A. “Dub” Cantrell. Mrs. Cantrell fought breast cancer for the past 25 years with great resilience and was a woman of deep faith.
Funeral arrangements for Mrs. Cantrell included a visitation at Dillard Funeral Home on May 24 and funeral services at Dillard Funeral Home chapel in Pickens May 27. Burial followed at Holly Springs Baptist Church.

Lee E. Stewart
Pickens — Lee Ellis Stewart, 77, widow of the late Robert Clyde Stewart Jr., passed from this life on Thursday, June 1, 2017.
Mrs. Stewart was born in Cartersville, Ga., a daughter of the late Nathan Alexander and Irene Stewart Ellis. She was a graduate of Winthrop University and worked with the Department of Social Services in Pickens County and for several years taught at Pickens High School. Later she retired from Cannon Memorial Hospital, where she worked in social services. She was a member of the Pickens First Baptist Church and the Pickens County Historical Society.
Survivors include her sons Robert Clyde Stewart III and his wife, Carla, and Bryan Ellis Stewart and his wife, Amanda, all of Easley. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Rachel Stewart, Blake Stewart, Brooke Stewart, Baylee Stewart and Van Stewart.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Stewart was preceded in death by her daughter, Rebecca Lee Stewart, and her sister, Carol Frady.
The family will receive friends at Dillard Funeral Home on Friday, June 9, 2017, from 9:30-10:45 a.m., with a graveside service following at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens at 11 a.m.

James Clardy
PICKENS— James Alfred Clardy, 85, passed from this life on Friday, June 2, 2017.
Mr. Clardy was born in Greenville, son of the late Oscar J. and Cakre Nichols Clardy. He was retired from Platt Saco Lowell as assistant plant superintendent and was a member of Elljean Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher. He was a Mason and Past Worshipful Master, and he served his country in the U.S. Army.
Survivors include his wife of 10 years, Ruby Gravely Clardy; daughters, Glenda Fowler (Leon) of Pickens and Teresa Mauldin (Donald) of Clemson; and grandchildren, Dennon Fowler (Letha) and Crystal Dobson (Pete). Also surviving are great-grandchildren Peyton and Ava Fowler and Braydon and Cheyanne Dobson.
The family received friends at Dillard Funeral Home on June 4, with graveside services following at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Edith “Juanita” Culbertson
Easley — Mrs. Edith Juanita Norwood Culbertson, 90, wife of the late Clarence Allen Culbertson Sr., passed away Sunday, May 4, 2017, at Greenville Memorial Hospital.
Born in Laurens County, a daughter of the late Joe and Maggie Kelley Norwood, Mrs. Culbertson received her associate degree from Columbia College and retired from Union Carbide. She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Simpsonville and attended Tabor United Methodist Church in Pickens. Juanita was a loving wife and mother who loved traveling and mall shopping.
Surviving are a son, Clarence Allen Culbertson Jr. of Simpsonville; two daughters, Roxanne C. Swan (Verne) of Easley and Charlene C. Young of Irmo; a sister, Ella Mae Bundy of Newport, Tenn.; and two grandsons, Jonathan and Michael Carbaugh. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Culbertson was predeceased by four brothers and three sisters.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 7, at Graceland East Memorial Park.

Ida Mae Grant
PICKENS — Ida Mae Grant, 88, of Pickens, wife of the late Cecil H. Grant, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, May 29, 2017.
Born in Pickens County, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Ida Porter Trotter.
Surviving are her two sons, Randall Grant (Susan) and Carey Grant (Lucy); a daughter, Judy O’Shields (Artis); six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Grant was predeceased by her parents, her husband, five brothers and six sisters. She was the last surviving member of her family.
Funeral services were held June 1 at Dillard Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ronnie Grant and the Rev. Gerald Robinson officiating and Robbie Eades assisting with music. Interment followed the service at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens, with the Rev. Rick Baldwin officiating.

Randall Dale Scruggs
EASLEY — Randall Dale Scruggs, 42, husband of Gina Holliday Scruggs, passed away Sunday, May 28, 2017, at Cannon Hospital.
Mr. Scruggs was born in Easley. He was the son of Rosa Belle Waldrop of Easley.
Survivors include his wife of 11 years; one son, Joshua Scruggs of the home; one sister, Kristy Sutherland (Benji) of Pickens; one brother, Jamie Waldrop of Easley; one aunt, Wauna Brittenham; and three uncles, Randy Scruggs and Winfred Scruggs, both of Liberty, and Ed Scruggs of Easley.
Mr. Scruggs was predeceased by his grandmother, Alice Marie Scruggs; aunt, Mae Suddeth; cousin, Jimmy Scruggs; and uncle, Horace Scruggs.
A memorial will be held at a later date. Mountain View Funeral Home is serving the Scruggs family.
Eric Sutherland
SENECA — Eric Ray Sutherland, 29, of Seneca, passed away on Sunday, June 4, 2017.
Eric was born in Greenville County on Jan. 8, 1988, to Kimberly Quinn Roberson and Benji Sutherland. He graduated from Wren High School, worked many years as a pool installer in the family business, and was of the Baptist faith. He was a wonderful and devoted father to his two children, Davon Ray Sutherland and Raelyn Elizabeth Sutherland.
Also surviving are his maternal grandmother, Essie Hardin; paternal grandfather, Billy Moody; two sisters, Danielle Moody Gill and Angel Lei Roberson; uncle and aunt, Randy and Caroline Holcombe; and a cousin, Garrett Holcombe.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Kimberlin Peach Hall, and a cousin, Alanah Holcombe.
Receiving of friends will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 7, at Dillard Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, June 8, in the Dillard Funeral Home chapel. Burial will follow at Cedar Rock Baptist Church Cemetery.

Joyce Kay Chapman
LIBERTY — Joyce Kay Chapman, 63, wife of Jerry Davis Chapman, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, May 30, 2017, at her home.
Mrs. Chapman was born in Pickens, a daughter of the late Louise O’Neal Kay and Calvin Kay.
Survivors include her husband; one son, Terry Chapman (Kristie) of Pickens; one sister, Linda Judson of Liberty; one grandson, Zac Chapman of Pickens; and two nephews, Ronnie Rowland of Easley and Lee Rowland of Liberty. She was predeceased by her parents and one brother, Casey Kay.
Visitation was on June 1 at Mountain View Funeral Home. A funeral service was held Friday, June 2, in the funeral home chapel.

Gerie Maddox
SIX MILE — Geraldine Adelaide Cavanagh Maddox, 94, died Saturday, May 27, 2017, at her home, with her loving husband of 35 years Roy Maddox holding her hand.
Mrs. Maddox was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., a daughter of the late Michael Adelbert and Florence Marie Beesley Cavanagh. She was retired from the Long Island, N.Y., school system as a secretary for several elementary schools, and she was a homemaker. Mrs. Maddox was communicant of St. Michael’s Episcopal Church in Easley, where she was very active in church life. She loved to dance, in particular square dancing, and was an avid bowler.
Survivors include her husband, Roy J. Maddox of the home; sons, Frederick J. Lanceley (Donna) of Vero Beach, Fla., and Michael A. Lanceley of Sandy Springs; stepsons, Michael G. Maddox (Quila) of Oakfuskie, Okla., Larry S. Maddox (Vickie) of South Haven, Mass., and Leslie S. Maddox of Memphis, Tenn.; and a stepdaughter, Linda Lee Jordan (Michael) of Memphis, Tenn. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren and a brother, Joseph Vincent Cavanagh of Monetta.
A memorial service was held on May 30 at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church in Easley, with a reception following in the church parish hall. Burial will be at a later date.

Leroy Hammett
Easley — Leroy Hammett, 93, of Easley, husband of the late Mary Lee Lesley Hammett, passed away Wednesday, May 31, 2017, at his home.
Born in Liberty, he was a son of the late Arthur and Janie Duncan Hammett. He was raised by his grandparents, the late “Pink” and Betty Duncan.
Mr. Hammett was retired from Alice Manufacturing’s Ellison plant and was a member of Cedar Rock Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII and loved to work in his garden.
Surviving are a daughter, Sharon Hammett of the home; sisters, Sue Sutherland of Rome, Ga., Rosanne Gurley of Sandy Springs and Kay Seidenstricker of Chester; and brothers, Teddy Hammett of Anderson, Robert Hammett of Charlotte, N.C., and Gary “Zeke” Hammett of Sandy Springs.
In addition to his wife, parents and grandparents, he was predeceased by sisters, Margaret Allen and Janice Compton; and brothers, Fred Duncan, Billy Hammett and Donald Hammett.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Interim Hospice for the exceptional care given to Mr. Hammett.

Mary Jane Smith
LIBERTY — Mary Jane Guice Smith, 67, of 437 Country Club Road, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 1, 2017, at Baptist Easley Hospital.
Born in Bat Cave, N.C., she was a daughter of the late Grady and Georgia Laughter Guice.
Throughout her adult life, she was a faithful pastor’s wife, and spent her time supporting his ministry and raising her loving family. She was a member of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church.
Surviving are her husband, Rev. Rudy Smith of the home; a daughter, Angela Pierce of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Elizabeth Smith of Easley, and Rick and Kayla Smith of Liberty; three sisters, Vonda Fair of Hendersonville, N.C., Barbie Ebbett of Wortham, Texas, and Polly Higgins of Tryon, N.C.; and seven grandchildren, Tristan, Samantha, Maddie, Elisa, Collins, Piper Grace and Mercy Cate Smith.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Linda Smallwood.
Funeral services to honor Mrs. Smith’s life were on June 3 at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church. Burial followed at Zirconia Baptist Church in Zirconia, NC.
The family will be at the home. Liberty Mortuary is handling arrangements.
Patty B. Watson
PICKENS — Patty Bell Watson, 72, beloved wife of Roy Watson for 53 years, passed from this life on Tuesday, May 30, 2017, surrounded by her family.
Mrs. Watson was born in Six Mile, daughter of the late Robert and Lola Bolding Bell. She was retired from Farm Bureau Insurance in Pickens and was a member of Praters Creek Baptist Church. An active church worker, Mrs. Watson was on the flower committee, taught Vacation Bible School and taught preschool Sunday school for 32 years. She was affectionately known as “Miss Patty” by her students. Mrs. Watson loved tending to her flowers and helping her husband on the farm. She was a country cook and was known for her macaroni and cheese and pound cakes. Mrs. Watson always wanted to be known as a “giving person” who loved God, her church and her family.
Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Roy B. Watson of the home; daughter, Donna Lamb (David) of Easley; and son, Ted Watson (Michelle) of Pickens. Grandchildren include Cameron Lamb, Rebecca Hayes (Trevor), Ryan Lamb, Hanna Watson and Kerington Lamb. Also surviving are brothers Michael G. Bell (Debbie) of Los Angeles and Dan D. Bell (Lynn) of Liberty, and nieces and nephews Erica B. Davies, Christopher Bell, Steven Bell, Robert Bell, Randall Bell, Tim Powell, Joy Posey, Bill Clardy, Dale Watson and Rick Watson.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Watson was predeceased by nieces Teresa Bell and Teresa Powell, and nephew Eric Bell.
The family received friends at Dillard Funeral Home on June 2. Funeral services followed in the funeral home chapel. Burial was at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens.
