Amy Miller
Blountville, Tenn — Amy Louise Forrest Miller, 49, died Monday, July 21, 2014 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.
Born in Easley, to C. Otis Forrest, Jr. and the late Pauline Ann McCall, Mrs. Miller was an Easley Christian School graduate and went on to be a manager in retail. She studied piano and was a talented flautist and had an eye for interior decorating.
Amy loved collecting angels, catching and collecting butterflies, spending time helping children and being a loving mother.
In addition to her father, she is survived by two sons, Levi and Jordan Staton, both of North Carolina; a step-brother, Chris Chapell of Pa.; three sisters, Anne Forrest of South Carolina, Alison Harshman of Florida and Andrea Martin of Missouri; three brothers, Donnie Forrest of Georgia, Shannon Forrest of Tennessee and Christian Forrest of Easley; and a grandmother, Fleda Forrest of Easley.
Memorial services were 5 p.m. Thursday, July 24 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown, with the Rev. Dr. David Gallamore and the Rev. Randy Smith officiating.

Bertha Butler
Easley — Bertha Ruth Leopard Dunlap Butler, 84, wife of the late Thomas Joseph Dunlap, died Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at Baptist Easley Hospital.
Born in Easley, to the late John and Emma McQueen Leopard, “Bert” was a seamstress at Play School Baby in Easley until her retirement. Even after retiring, Mrs. Butler continued to sew and quilt on a daily basis, making gifts for family and friends. She was a devoted member of Lenhardt Christian Fellowship where she was part of the Adult Bible Class.
Surviving are a son, Thomas G. Dunlap (Nancy) of Nashville, Tenn.; a daughter, Lynn Perkins (Harry) of Easley; two brothers, Clarence Elgin of Okla. and Charles Elgin of Pickens; two sisters, Ruby Christine Esuary of Pickens and Myrtle Britzenhoff of Mich.; four grandchildren, Katrina Queen, Keith Perkins, Russell Perkins and Scot Dunlap; seven great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by a daughter, Wanda Jean Dunlap.
Funeral services were 2 p.m. Friday, July 25 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown. Burial followed in Arial United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Dr. Leonard R. Allen
Clemson — Dr. Leonard R. Allen, 92, died July 20, 2014.
Born in Morgansville, W.Va., he was the first child of Glen and Amanda Gaskins Allen. In 1942-43 he built B-26 bombers at Glen L. Martin, where he met his wife. In Jan. 1944 he married Nannie Mae Love and joined the U.S. Army Air Corp., serving as a radio mechanic and instructor. Upon his discharge, he moved to S.C.
In 1949 he enrolled in Clemson A&M College. In three years he earned (with highest honor) a B.S. in Agronomy and Soils. Joining the Agricultural Extension Service, he served as assistant county agent from 1952-1961 in Greenwood and Bamberg Counties. In 1961 he enrolled in Auburn University. In three years he earned a M.S. and a Ph.D. in Agronomy and Soils. In 1964 he returned to Clemson and became a State Extension Specialist in Agronomy and Soils. He later moved into research and retired from Clemson as an associate professor in 1982.
He is survived by his wife, Nannie Mae Love Allen; two sons, Michael Allen(Elaine) of Easley and Gary Allen(Merry) of Moncks Corner; two grandchildren, Chris Allen(Christie) and April Allen Ayling; and four great grandchildren, Abby and Ellie Ayling and Bailey and Reese Allen, all of Moncks Corner.
A memorial service to honor the life of Dr. Allen was held Saturday at 12 p.m. in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel.

Clyde Owens
Easley — Clyde Marshall Owens, 56, of Easley, husband of Ginger Lynne Chapman Owens died Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at St. Francis Hospital.
Born in Greenville County, Mr. Owens was a son of the late Clarence and Betty Sue Camp Owens. He retired from Easley Combined Utilities and was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a daughter, Latasha Owens; two sons, Damion and Shawn (Andrea) Owens; two brothers, Clarence and Toby Owens; a sister, Mira Edens and two grandchildren, Brooks and Paiton Owens.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Owens was predeceased by a brother, Kenneth Camp.
Funeral services were 2 p.m. Saturday, July 26 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown. Burial followed in Greenlawn Memorial Park.

Modena M. Kelley
Six Mile — Modena Mann Kelley, 79, of Six Mile and wife of Frank Kelley, died Thursday, July 24, 2014 at her home.
Born in Pickens County, she was the daughter of the late Oscar Franklin Mann and Sallie Duckworth Mann. Mrs. Kelley was retired from Kelley Builders of Six Mile and Stewart Lumber Company and was a member of Ridgeland Drive Baptist Church.
In addition to her husband of 62 years, she is survived by three sons, Greg Kelley (Debbie) of Six Mile, Terry Kelley (Lisa) of Soddy Daisy, Tenn. and Roger Kelley (Teressa) of Liberty; five grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and two sisters, Mildred Smith and Frances Bryson both of Six Mile.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Sarah Davis.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, July 27 at 4:30 p.m. in the chapel of Dillard Funeral Home. Burial followed in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
The Men’s Class and the Gleaners Class of Ridgeland Drive served as Honorary Escorts.

Jean R. Smith
Pickens — Jean Reeves Smith, 77, of Trotter Road, died Friday, July 25, 2014.
Born in Pickens County, she was the daughter of the late Will and Claudine Reeves. Mrs. Smith was retired from Hollingsworth, Saco-Lowell, in Easley and attended East Pickens Baptist Church.
Surviving are her sons, Andrew Duncan of Roebuck and Eddie Duncan of Pickens; and a sister, Betty Smith of Pickens.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her siblings, Clifford Alton “Cooter” Reeves, Florine “Flossie” Reeves and Shadow Reeves.
A memorial service was held on Sunday, July 27 at 2:30 p.m. in the chapel of Dillard Funeral Home.

Sherril D. Simmons
Pickens — Sherril Dean Simmons, 84, of the Griffin Community, died Sunday, July 27, 2014 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Pickens County, he was the son of the late Jesse and Artie Hayes Simmons. Mr. Simmons was retired from Pepsi-Cola Bottling Company after 41 years of service and was a member of Griffin Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Lounelle Nealy Simmons; two daughters, Jayne Stancell and Judith Rivers; three sons, Douglas Simmons, Michael Simmons and Keith Simmons; seven grandchildren; three great grandchildren; a sister, Frances Gillespie; and a brother, Lendon Simmons.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers and a sister.
The family would like to thank Journey Hospice and Michelle Curtis for the exceptional care they provided to Mr. Simmons.
Graveside services were held on Wednesday, July 30 at 11 a.m. in Griffin Baptist Church Cemetery.

Joey Walker
Pickens — Nathan Joseph Walker, 40, of Pickens died on Sunday, July 27, 2014.
Joey was born in Bloomington, Ind. a son of Tony (Pop) and Lacy Moyne Walker. He was employed with General Electric in Greenville and was a member of Holly Springs Baptist Church. Joey was a great dad and son and never met a stranger. He loved people especially babies and kids.
Survivors include his parents of Liberty, his daughters Skyler Elizabeth Moyne Walker, Savannah Bailey Walker and their mother, Brandie Walker. Also surviving are brothers, David Walker (Tammy) of Simpsonville, Doug Walker (Jessica) of Duncan, a special brother, Jeff Durham of Pickens and a special daughter, Sylvia Townsend of Pickens. Grandparents include Deloris Megenhardt of Indianapolis, Ind. and Norma Jean Walker of Freedom, Ind.
Joey was preceded in death by his son, Tristan Walker.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 30 at Dillard Funeral Home in Pickens.
A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Thursday at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens.
The family is at the home of his parents.

James Edwin Gill
Liberty — Mr. James Edwin “Eddie” Gill, 75, husband of Joann Jenkins Gill, died Friday, July 25, 2014 at his home.
Born in Black Mountain, N.C., the son of the late Earl Glenn and Helen Roberts Gill, Mr. Gill retired as an investigator with the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division and attended the Carolina Buddhist Vihara.
Surviving, in addition to his wife of 54 years, are two sons, Edwin Chris Gill, and Mitchell Wayne Gill (Kami), all of Liberty; a brother, David Gill of Liberty; three sisters, Betty Earlene Israel of Greenville, Nancy Louise Forester of Asheville, N.C., and Patricia Sutton (Bob) of Black Mountain, N.C.; and two grandsons, Brandon Wayne Gill and James Tyler Gill.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Gill was predeceased by a daughter-in-law, Carla Gill.
A gathering to celebrate the life of Eddie will be from 2 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 2 at Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown, Easley.

Red Shelton
Pickens — William Earl “Red” Shelton, 66, died Sunday, July 27, 2014 at his home.
Red was born in Pickens County, a son of Frances Holden Shelton and the late Marcus Vance Shelton. He was self-employed as a carpenter and attended Glassy Mountain View Baptist Church. Red was a U. S. Army veteran of Vietnam after serving two tours of duty.
Survivors include his mother, Frances Shelton of the home, son, Wayne Shelton (Renee) of Pickens and step-children, Julie Marie Murphy of Easley and Mary Ann Sierra of Spartanburg and two grandchildren, Billy Wayne Shelton and Jack William Shelton. Also surviving are a brother and sisters, Darvis Shelton (Faye), Martha Belmore (Weldon), Juanita Pearson (Terry) all of Pickens and Mirenda Shelton of Easley and Marie Wilson (Ronnie) of Hendersonville, N.C.
The family will receive friends from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 30 at Dillard Funeral Home in Pickens with funeral services following in the funeral home chapel at 3:30 p.m. Burial will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens.
The family is at the home of his mother, Frances Shelton.

Eunice Ray T. Gardner
Easley — Eunice Ray Tyler Gardner, 77, of Roundedwing Drive, died Wednesday, July 23, 2014.
Born in Chesnee, she was the daughter of the late Dayton and Annie Robinson Tyler. Mrs. Gardner was retired from Winn-Dixie in Easley and was a member of Westview Baptist Church in Greenville.
Surviving are her husband, James D. Gardner of the home; daughters, Debra Link (Paul) of Greenville and Kathy Street (Michael) of Pickens; grandchildren, Samantha Dobbins, Jonathan Link, Andrew Link, Robert Dobbins, and Alex Street; great grandchildren, Caleb and Levi Link; sister, Janette Silvers of Travelers Rest; and a brother, David Tyler of Columbia.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a brother, Donnie Lee Tyler.
Graveside services were held on Friday, July 25 at 11 a.m. in Mountain View Memorial Park in Travelers Rest.

Bobby Hendricks
Pickens — Robert Franklin “Bobby” Hendricks, Jr., 67, died Sunday, July 20, 2014 at his home.
Born in Greenville, he was the son of Ruth Roper Hendricks of Pickens and the late Robert Franklin Hendricks, Sr. Mr. Hendricks graduated from Wade Hampton High School in Greenville and from Clemson University where he earned a B.S. Degree in Agronomy. He worked for the Soil Conservation Service and Palmetto Plating for years; served in the US Navy aboard the USS Hanson during the Vietnam War. He also enjoyed scouting and attained the rank of Eagle Scout. After retirement he enjoyed cattle raising and farming.
Surviving is his mother, Ruth Roper Hendricks of Pickens; two sons, Brian Ashley Hendricks (Carole) of Orange Park, Fla. and John Robert Hendricks of Pickens; three grandchildren, Lindsay Keener, Lauryn Hendricks and Ashley Hendricks; a sister, Diana Roper (David) and Charles Hendricks (Tommye) all of Pickens.
In addition to his father, he was predeceased by a brother, Donald Manning Hendricks.
