MARTHA JOAN ALEXANDER
EASLEY — Martha Joan Alexander, 91, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Aug. 14, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born at home to the late Lewis and Glator Noblitt in Easley in 1933.
Together, she and her late husband, Kenneth Alexander, leave their legacy through six children, 20 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren, who all loved and adored them.
She enjoyed spending her days with family, doing word searches, reading, being outside and taking trips to Cherokee.
The family will receive friends from 2:30-3 p.m. Aug. 25, with a celebration of life to follow at Bible Baptist Church in Pickens.
HAL NEVADA DUNCAN
LIBERTY — Hal Nevada Duncan, 79, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, Aug. 17, 2024, at his home.
Born May 14, 1945, Hal was the son of the late Jessie Sylvester Duncan and Avis Louise Duncan. Mr. Duncan was a United States Marine veteran. Hal was a member of The Rock Baptist Church in Six Mile. He loved the Lord, fishing and participating in men’s bible study. Hal cherished his constant companion, Layla.
Survivors include his best friend, Sharon McCombs, and other friends, Heather and Josh Durham, Ron and Charlotte Mauk, Larry Pennington, Jimmy Godfrey and Fred Parks.
Mr. Duncan was predeceased by his parents, Jessie Sylvester Duncan and Avis Louise Duncan.

NAOMI O’SHIELDS REYNOLDS
EASLEY — Mrs. Naomi O’Shields Reynolds, 103, wife of the late James Champion Reynolds, went to be with her Lord and Savior Friday, Aug. 16, 2024.
Born in Greenville County, she was a daughter of the late Lawrence Grady O’Shields and the late Eva Waldrop Trotter.
Naomi was employed with SWIRL Manufacturing for many years and retired from American Enka. She was a member of Norris First Baptist Church for 59 years.
Naomi loved gardening, sewing and quilting, but her greatest love was for her family, especially her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by all who loved and knew her.
Surviving are her son, James “Jimmy” Reynolds (Suzy) of Anderson; her two daughters, Shirley Traynham of Spruce Pine, N.C., and Sarah Corum of Greenville; a sister, Barbara Jane Sloan of Greenville; her grandchildren, Deborah Owings (James), Steven Traynham (Julie), Lisa Bryant, Scott Bishop (Lisa), Randy Bishop (Bonnie), Cheryl Bagwell, Joe Griffin, Tim Reynolds (Michelle) and Karen Heroux (Guillame); her great-grandchildren, Kara Woody (Robert), Sierra Shepherd (Zack), Kourtni Traynham, Madison Bryant, Jonathan Bryant, Casey Myles (John), Zach Bishop (Leslie), J.P. Dyer, Cody Dyer (Anne), Ashley Dyer, Devin Reynolds, Kayla Reynolds and Sage Heroux; and her great-great-grandchildren, Kinslee, Becca, Amelia, Monty, Sutton and Collin.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Reynolds was predeceased by a daughter, Carol Griffin; a son-in-law, Donnie Traynham; four brothers, George O’Shields, Hoy O’Shields, L.G. O’Shields and Joseph Paul O’Shields; and six sisters, Beaulah Frasure, Ruth O’Shields, Ruby O’Shields, Ella Craver, Macie McCall and Mary Grace O’Shields.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Aug. 21 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 12:30-1:45 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, prior to the service.

CHANCE CALDWELL
EASLEY — Christopher Chance Caldwell, a devoted father, brother, and friend, passed away unexpectedly, on August 14, 2024, at the age of 36.
Born on Feb. 9, 1988, in Anderson, he resided in Easley. He was graduated of Liberty High School and was currently employed with A&A Fire Protection. His caring nature and willingness to lend a helping hand endeared him to colleagues and friends alike.
His life was filled with moments of joy spent with his daughters, whom he cherished deeply. He had a passion for cooking, going camping, and was an enthusiastic fisherman. Chance brought warmth and laughter to those around him, leaving an indelible mark on all who were fortunate enough to know him.
Those left to cherish his memory are his mother, Gina Caldwell (Darren Youngblood); his stepdad, Stuart Reid (Trisha); his two daughters, Elle and Laryia; his girlfriend, Beth Merck; a brother, Chase Caldwell (Heather) and their children, Trenton, Kayleigh, Kayley, Alexus and Kinleigh; six stepchildren, Trevan, Tanner, Teagan, Lizzy, Michael and Axxis; four stepsisters, Chelsey, Cheyenne and Savannah Youngblood and Brianna Stancil.
To honor and celebrate Chance’s life, a memorial service will be held today at 3 p.m., in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1p.m. until 2:30 p.m. at the mortuary.
In his passing, he leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and unwavering dedication to his family and friends. He will forever be remembered and deeply missed by all those whose lives he touched.

MARJORIE SUITS ‘MARGIE’ CHILDS
PICKENS — Marjorie Suits “Margie” Childs, 77, loving wife of 59 years to Williams “Steve” Childs, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, Aug. 11, 2024, after several months of declining health.
Born Dec. 23, 1946, in Tucson, Ariz., Margie was the daughter of the late Arlie W. Suits and Marjorie Smith Suits of Porterville, Calif. Mrs. Childs was a graduate of Pickens High School. Margie and Steve were owners of The Golden Butterfly Gifts of Distinction in Pickens for more than 40 years.
She was a member of East Pickens Baptist Church. Margie loved talking and encouraging people who she met in her shop, often sharing her faith with them. She enjoyed reading, writing and watching movies with Steve, the love of her life. Her favorite hobby was decorating, which she was very talented at.
Margie loved gathering with family, the food and fellowship around the table. She loved taking rides, cruse-ins and of course her beloved cats and dog, Katie.
Survivors include her husband, Steve Childs of the home; four brothers, Jimmy Suits, Don Suits (Linda), Ronnie Suits (Gayle) and Arlie Suits; a sister, Rebecca Suits Green; two sisters-in-law, Chalma C. Drake (Ben) and Eleanor Childs; and 42 special nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Childs was predeceased by seven siblings, Kenneth Suits, Barbara Richardson, Rita Bell Carrier, Florence Torres, Clinton Smith, Phyllis Gilstrap and Sharon Suits Goade.
The family will hold a private celebration of life service at a later date.
The family would like to thank special friends, Keith and Caroline Rogers; Chief and Cheryl Beach; Ruth Ann Wilson and Rebecca Newman, for the many times they have helped during these difficult last three years. Also, a special thank you to Agape Care Hospice in Clemson and the staff and nurses at AnMed Cannon for such wonderful care.

DAVID PAUL JONES
SUNSET — David Paul Jones, 79, loving husband of 53 years to Sandra (Sandy) Hunter Jones, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2024, at St. Francis Downtown Hospital in Greenville.
Born March 18, 1945, in Pickens County, David was the son of the late Paul Jones and Virginia Murphree Jones. David was a member of Martin Grove Wesleyan Church and loved the Lord. He was a farmer who loved his 4020 John Deere tractor. In his beloved shop he restored VWs, Chevy trucks and others. He was a man of the land and took pride in raising cows and baling hay. He could repair anything and was quick to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. David enjoyed rabbit hunting in his younger years with his good friend and brother-in-law, George, and loved aggravating his grandkids and great-grandkid.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra Hunter Jones of the home; two daughters, Christy Tallman (Ted) and Jennifer Shelton (Allen), both of Sunset; grandchildren, David Allen, Kayley, Christopher and Ralph; great-grandson, Hunter; sisters, Doris Simpson (Donnie) of Easley, Jane Farry (Joe) of Greenville, Jackie Furr (Roger) of Pickens and Donna Holliday (Ray) of Six Mile; many loving nieces and nephews; and his close friend, Bud (Boomer) Stancell.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Jones was predeceased by two sisters, Mary Jo Jones and Sarah Rampey.
Memorial services were held on Aug. 20 in the chapel of Mountain View Funeral Home in Pickens.

GEORGE ELLIOTT BALLARD
DACUSVILLE — George Elliott Ballard, 82, loving husband of 58 years to Shirley Dalton Ballard, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2024, at his home surrounded by family.
Born Aug. 1, 1942, in Pickens County, Elliott was the son of the late Paul Ballard and Mae Van Ballard. Elliott was a member of and dedicated supporter of Dacusville United Methodist Church. He was a United States Air Force veteran and served as a volunteer fireman for many years.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Dalton Ballard of the home; a son, Ethan Ballard of Taylors; a daughter, Erica Richards (Jonathon) of Dacusville; a granddaughter, Julia Richards; two brothers, Henry Ballard (Joan) and Wes Ballard (Kay); and a daughter-in-law, Wendy Fisher.
Mr. Ballard was predeceased by his parents, Paul Ballard and Mae Van Ballard.
Services were held on Aug. 18 in the sanctuary of Dacusville United Methodist Church in Dacusville. Burial followed the service in the church cemetery.

LINDA DIANE ARTEAGA
EASLEY — Linda Diane Arteaga, 42, of Easley, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2024.
Linda loved the outdoors, camping and going to yard sales. During the holidays, she put out Halloween and Christmas inflatables for people to enjoy. Linda loved spending time with her boys, nieces and nephews, and sitting on her mom’s front porch.
Linda is survived by her beloved husband, Javier Arteaga; her three sons, Francisco Arteaga, Alonso Arteaga and Ethan Arteaga; daughter-in-law, Stephani Hampton; father, Wayne Clayton Chastain Sr.; mother, Linda Faye Chastain; brother, Clayton Chastain; sister, Rebecca Chastain; and family friend, Gustavo Deanda.
Linda was preceded in death by her son, Christopher Arteaga; brother, Robert Chastain; niece, Sofia Hernandez; maternal grandparents, Lily and Levi Brissey; paternal grandparents, Otis Chastain and Beulah Trotter; aunt, Diane Cantrell, and uncle, Donnie Brissey.
A funeral service was held on Aug. 19 at Dillard Memorial Funeral Home in Pickens. A committal service followed at Abbott Cemetery, 425 Old Norris Road, Liberty.
