JARRETT RYAN PHILLIPS

EASLEY — Jarrett Ryan Phillips, 27, passed away on Monday, Aug. 26, 2024, at Greenville Memorial Hospital due to a motorcycle accident on Aug. 21.

He got saved in May and loved The Lord and talked about Jesus all the time.

Born Feb. 27, 1997, in Easley, Jarrett was the son of Rickey Phillips and Beverly Worley Phillips. Jarrett loved working on cars, carpentry work and helping family and friends out with things they needed help with. He loved his family and his precious little 3-year-old daughter, Virginia JoAnn Phillips (nickname Annie Mae). He loved his cat, Max, and enjoyed holding him, and Max loved him and he misses him so much. He looks for him to come home every day from work.

Survivors include his father and mother; his brother, Justin Phillips of the home; sister, Christie (Richard) Yates of Liberty; brother, Jason Phillips (Kylene) and niece Allie of Moore; nephew, Dylan Phillips (Hannah), great-niece, Josie, and a great-nephew that will be born in seven weeks, Samson, of Liberty; and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by paternal grandparents Paul and Ellen Nix Phillips, maternal grandparents Roy and Virginia Patterson Worley, and a cousin, Adam Clark Harris.

A memorial service was held Sept. 10 at Glenwood Baptist Church in Easley, with pastor Robert Fowler preaching.

Palmetto Cremation Services is assisting the family.

 

GAIL DEAN O’SHIELDS

LIBERTY — Gail Dean O’Shields, 78, loving wife to Jerry Wayne O’Shields, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 8, 2024, at her home.

Born Aug. 17, 1946, in Brevard, N.C., Gail was the daughter of the late Jethro Raxter and Geraldine Hendrix Raxter.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. O’Shields is survived by her two daughters, Jessica Patridge (Michael) of Easley and Tracey Allison (Terry) of Easley; and four grandchildren, Azure Mars, Lyrick Allison, Landon Patridge and Bren Patridge.

DONNA KAY ROSS

EASLEY — Donna Kay Ross, 69, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, Sept. 5, 2024, at her home.

Born Dec. 6, 1954, in Orlando, Fla., Donna was the daughter of the late Carl “Buck” Burkhalter and Jeanette Carey Burkhalter. Mrs. Ross was a member of Kings Grove Baptist Church in Six Mile.

Survivors include daughters, Amy Ross Barrett (Scott) of Central and Donnetta Ross of Clemson; six stepchildren, Sherry Ann Maw (Bruce) and Barry Ross (Ray); seven grandchildren, Clint Smith, Chelsea Barrett, Nick Barrett, Major Barrett and Dakota Barrett; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Michael Burkhalter; many loving nieces and nephews; friends that were like family; and her beloved cat, Domino.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Ross was predeceased by her husband, Mack Ross; sisters, Poochie Fuller and Leann Rutz; and a brother, Ronald Burkhalter.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Sept. 19 in the sanctuary of Kings Grove Baptist Church in Six Mile.

The family will speak to those in attendance after the service.

GWENDOLYN R. MARTIN

EASLEY — Gwendolyn R. Martin, 69, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2024, at her home.

Born April 21, 1955, in Anderson County, Gwendolyn was the daughter of the late Clyde Martin and Sarah Henderson.

Survivors include four children, Kevin Black of Easley, Sonya Gilliland of Easley, Cheri McAlister of Liberty and Leigh Ann Duncan (Brad) of Easley; seven grandchildren; and siblings, Helen Merck (Melvin), Linda Duncan (Keith), Lorena Lostraglio, Karl Martin (Tina) and Hope Harrison (Michael).

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Martin was predeceased by sisters, Darlene Martin and Tambralyn Bergholm; a brother, Gene Henderson Jr.; and the man who raised her, Gene Henderson Sr.

MARVIN ‘BUDMAN’ PATRICK

MARIETTA — Marvin “Budman” Patrick, 81, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 5, 2024, at his home, surrounded by family.

Born June 5, 1943, in Evansville, Ind., Budman was the son of the late Geneva Alsip. Mr. Patrick enjoyed riding motorcycles, Harleys and his Spyder. Budman also enjoyed spending time riding in Gulches Off Road Vehicle Park. He competed in stock car racing and tractor pulling. He was known for taking time to mentor young men. He loved his God, his country and his family dearly.

Survivors include his children, Vicki McWhorter (Ronnie) of Townville and Peggy Sue Davenport (Todd) of Powdersville; granddaughter, MacKenzie Clements (Trey); great-granddaughter, Rowyn Clements; brother, Roger McNeil; sisters, Peggy McNeil Burrell and Vada Stanton Kissinger (Mike); partner-in-crime, Bobbi Lee Dicker; and many numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Patrick was predeceased by his wife, Nancy Sue Patrick; son-in-law, Garry Weeden; and brothers, Charlie Stanton and David Stanton.

Funeral services were held on Sept. 8 at Mountain View Funeral Home in Pickens. Burial followed the service at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Pickens.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Budman’s honor may be made to Prisma Health Hospice of the Foothills, 390 Keowee School Rd, Seneca.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Hospice of the Foothills for the care provided during Mr. Patrick’s illness.

MELVIN WILLIAM ‘BILL’ BASHOR JR.

EASLEY — Melvin William “Bill” Bashor Jr., 87, loving husband to Anne Bashor, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, Sept. 6, 2024, at North Greenville Hospital in Travelers Rest.

Born Aug. 2, 1937, in Horry County, Bill was the son of the late Melvin William Bashor, Sr. and Viola Johnson Bashor. Mr. Bashor was a member of Nine Forks Baptist Church in Dacusville.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Bashor is survived by his brother, Thomas “Tommy” Bashor, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Bashor was predeceased by his parents.

Funeral services were held on Sept. 9 in the sanctuary of Nine Forks Baptist Church in Easley. Burial followed the service at the Nine Forks Baptist Church cemetery.

GEORGIE ALLEN ‘GEORGE’ LATOUR

SIX MILE — Georgie Allen “George” Latour, 54, loving husband of 13 years to Miranda Foster, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, Aug. 31, 2024, at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Born Dec. 9, 1969, in Greenville, George was the son of Joyce Robinson Latour and the late Allen George. Mr. Latour attended Gap Hill Church of God in Six Mile. He was a business owner and arborist who loved to climb trees. He enjoyed fishing, especially for bass. Family was his foundation, and he loved spending time with them.

Survivors include his wife, Miranda Foster of the home; children, Zach Beck (Brandi) of Fountain Inn, Nicole Latour of Greenville, Felisha Foster of West Union, Michael Foster of Six Mile and Joshua Foster of Six Mile; mother, Joyce Robinson Latour of Pickens; four loving and precious grandchildren; siblings, Tammy Henry of Pickens, Rose Wernecke of Canton, Ohio, and Leon Latour of Easley; and many loving nieces and nephews.

In addition to his father, Mr. Latour was predeceased by his loving grandparents, Ocie and Ira Robinson and Leon and Lilly Latour; and a niece, Nickie Latour.

Services for Mr. Latour will be announced at a later date.

JEAN ROBERSON

LIBERTY — Jean Roberson, 68, loving wife of 48 years to Joe Roberson, passed away on Friday, Sept. 6, 2024.

Mrs. Roberson was born in Greenville on April 18, 1956, to Mrs. Faye Snipes and the late Garfield Trotter. She was a graduate of Pickens High School, class of 1975.

Mrs. Roberson was a member of Mount Sinai Baptist Church in Pickens. She worked on the assembly line at Ryobi for more than 35 years. Mrs. Roberson loved to do puzzle books, color, and most of all, spend time with her family.

In addition to her husband and mother, Mrs. Roberson is survived by one daughter, Jennifer Harris; two grandchildren, Jackson Roberson and Hunter Harris; and five siblings.

In addition to her birth father, Mrs. Roberson was preceded in death by her stepfather, Harold Snipes.

Graveside services were conducted at Hillcrest Memorial Park on Sept. 9.

BRETT A. DALTON

LIBERTY — Brett Alan Dalton, 41, of Liberty, passed away at home on Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2024.

Born in Columbia, he was the son of Roger and Joyce Stancell Dalton of Easley.

Brett was employed with Duke Energy as a Class A lineman. He adored spending time with his daughter, Reagan, and enjoyed cooking and camping. He also proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps during Iraqi Freedom.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his daughter, Reagan Dalton; and brothers, Roger L. Dalton II (Heidi) of Powdersville and Jason Dalton (Scarlett) of New Orleans.

A graveside service took place on Sept. 4 at M.J. “Dolly” Cooper Veterans Cemetery in Anderson with military honors.

JESSE LUKE POSEY

EASLEY — Jesse Luke Posey, 29, fiancé of Kendyl Gulden, passed away Saturday, Aug. 31, 2024.

Born in Easley, he was the son of Steve Posey of Easley and Melissa Posey of Piedmont.

In addition to his parents and fiancé, he is survived by his daughter, Molly Alice Posey; his brother, Jake Posey (Brittany) of Travelers Rest; and nieces and nephews, Brooklyn and Axel Posey and Peyton and Preston White.

Jesse was employed in the family business of Posey and Sons Tree Service. He was a true motorcycle enthusiast. He embraced and embodied everything two wheels, from racing motocross as a kid to building and riding choppers as an adult. The only thing stronger than his love of motorcycles was his love of his daughter and family.

A service to celebrate Jesse’s life took place on Sept. 6 at Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown. Burial followed at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Easley.

REV. J. BRUCE CLEASBY

EASLEY — Rev. J. Bruce Cleasby, 92, husband of the late Nancy Cleasby, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, Sept. 1, 2024.

Born on Aug. 28, 1932, in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., Bruce was the son of the late Thomas and Isabel Cleasby.

Surviving are his four daughters, Bonnie East (Keith) of Easley, Barbara Hansen (Bruce) of Powdersville, Sandy Cleasby-Zuleger (Duane) of Fort Mill and Jean MacRae (Jim) of Charlotte, N.C. He was a proud grandfather to eight grandsons, Nick, Adam and Ryan East, Joe, Rob and Tom Hansen, Bruce Phillips and Alex Lyons, as well as 11 great-grandchildren, Molly, Clare, Shea, Cam, Micah, Rhett, Ford, Thomas, Timothy, Aiden and Josephine.

The second of nine children, Bruce is also survived by his sisters, Libby Sutton, Dorothy Ladamus, Janet Brown (Phil) and Mimi Bicking (Keith), and brother, Dick (Jodie).

He was preceded in death by his brothers George and Tom and sister Brenda. He had many nieces and nephews, and he loved each of them in his own unique way.

Bruce proudly served in the U.S. Air Force for 22 years, serving in the enlisted ranks before retiring as a major in 1973.

From there, he attended Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore, Ky., and spent 25 years serving as a pastor with the United Methodist Church.

Bruce was a friend to all and loved his church family, his neighbors and his friends, but the loves of his life were Nancy and his four girls.

The family will host a memorial service at St. Andrews Methodist Church (Easley) at 10 a.m. Oct. 12, with a reception following the service. A private graveside service will take place in the M.J. Dolly Cooper Veterans Cemetery.

ONEIDA MAHAFFEY

EASLEY — Mary Oneida Mahaffey, 91, passed away on September 8, 2024. Born on Dec. 21, 1932, in Six Mile to William Lester Dodson and Inez Dodson. Oneida married Jack Mahaffey on May 16, 1953, in Liberty. They had three sons; Phillip, Mark and Stephen. In 1966, the family moved to Thailand where they served as Southern Baptist missionaries. They were stationed in Bangkok, Pattalung and Hat Yai. Jack worked as an evangelist and a pastor while Oneida, an equal partner in the mission cause, worked as a homemaker, taught English as a second language, and home schooled their two younger sons.

Oneida was a woman of deep religious faith, a loving and caring nature, and a strong sense of fairness. She was an excellent cook who learned to make many Thai dishes, including massaman curry and beef with oyster sauce. She baked her own bread for many years. She loved to read, especially romance novels. One of her favorite music groups was the Tijuana Brass. One of her favorite films was Gone with the Wind. She enjoyed watching Clemson University football games, especially when the Tigers won.

In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her aunt, Lera Davis; brother, Ray Dodson; and a son, Stephen Mahaffey.

Surviving in addition to her husband is a brother, Fred Dodson; sons, Phillip Mahaffey and Mark Mahaffey (Karen); and granddaughters, Rebecca Mahaffey, Destinee Mahaffey Merritt (Ryan).

A memorial service for Oneida will be held on Sept. 14, at 12 p.m. at Mt. Tabor Baptist Church officiated by Reverend Gerald Martin.
