Debra W. Archer

Central — Debra Ann Walker Archer, 59, formerly of Jamaica Plains, Mass., died Monday, Sept. 5, 2016, at her home following a lengthy illness surrounded by family.

Born in Boston, Mass., she was the daughter of the late Stanley Walker and Juanita Wiggins Cleaves. She was a deli clerk with Publix in Clemson.

Surviving are two sons, Richard (Leann) Stanley of Boston, Mass., and Jacob Mikhail of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; daughter, Desiree Danielle (Broderick) Steele of Central; brothers, Butch Cleaves of Vermont, and James Cleaves, Eddie Cleaves and Johnnie Cleaves, all of Massachusetts; sisters, Patti Lech of California and Michelle Cleaves of Vermont; and grandchildren, Gabriel, Julian and Eliot Steele, all of Central.

Burial will take place in Ramsey Creek Preserve in Westminster.

Jessie Mae Posey

Liberty — Mrs. Jessie Mae Oglesby Posey, 90, wife of the late Ansel Earl Posey, passed away Monday, Sept. 5, 2016, at her home.

Born in Pickens County, a daughter of the late Fred and Bonnie Hooper Oglesby, Mrs. Posey retired from Woodside Mills-Liberty Division and was a member of Easley Church of God.

Surviving are a son, Willard Benjamin Posey (Connie) of Piedmont; a brother, Fred Oglesby of Easley; three sisters, JoAnn Pike of Mauldin, Ellen Gilbert of Liberty and Louise Lyda of Easley; six grandchildren, Wanda Kay Buckle, Teresa Dianne Thompson, Ben Posey, Steve Posey, Stephanie Brown and Krystal Pitts; 12 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Posey was predeceased by a daughter, Bonnie Glendola Jones, and two sisters.

Funeral services were held Sept. 9 at Easley Church of God, with the Rev. Steve Knight officiating, with entombment following in the Hillcrest Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Nell R. Finley

Easley — Nell Grace Robinson Finley, 88, of Jameson Road, wife of the late Jack Finley, passed away Sunday, Sept. 4, 2016, at her home.

Born in Pickens, she was a daughter of the late Samuel and Lena Aretha Turner Robinson.

Mrs. Finley was a homemaker and member of Cross Roads Baptist Church. Earlier in her life, she enjoyed gardening, working in her yard and NASCAR racing.

Surviving are her children, William Gary Finley (Patsy) of Spartanburg, John A. Finley (Kathy) of Easley and Rebecca “Becky” Clark of Mobile, Ala.; grandchildren, Sam Finley (Terra) of Simpsonville, Malena Diego (Wes) of Charlotte, N.C., James Finley (Elizabeth) of Pickens, Bethany Wilbanks (Brad) of Easley, Ben Clark (Betty) of Mobile, Ala. and SSG Brandon Clark of Fort Riley, Kan.; 18 great-grandchildren; sisters, Sarah Lowery (Cecil) of Greenville and Mary Margaret Deyton of Burnsville, N.C.; a brother, William “Bill” T. Robinson of Florida City, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Pat Hipp (Kenneth); and a brother-in-law, Sonny Finley.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a son, David A. Finley and a grandson, Bill Clark.

Funeral services were held on Sept. 8 at Cross Roads Baptist Church, with burial following in the church cemetery.

Herb Mann

Easley — Mr. Herbert George Mann, 99, husband of the late Leota Barr Mann, passed away peacefully Saturday, Sept. 3, 2016, at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Born on Sept. 13, 1916, in Ft. Meade, Fla., he was the son of the late George English and Mary Fisher Mann. He would have celebrated his 100th birthday this week. Mr. Mann retired from Mowhawk Carpet and was a U.S. Navy veteran. He was a faithful member of Easley Presbyterian Church, whose members were his family.

Mr. Mann came to South Carolina in the 1930s with the CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps) encamped near Liberty, as their truck driver. He met Leota Barr, who was working as a waitress in a café in Liberty. She had just finished high school. After they were married, they lived with her parents in Easley. Herb lived in that same home until he had to move to a retirement home. His wife died suddenly in 2003 on their 50th wedding anniversary.

The Manns were a loving and devoted couple, who had a heart for children that needed a home. Leota had been adopted by the Barr family, and Herb’s mother died when he was 3 years old, being shuffled from one relative to another growing up. Herb and Leota wanted to support the Thornwell Home for Children in whatever way they possibly could. It was Herb’s desire to deed their home and property to Thornwell before his death.

Herb Mann was a loving and caring gentleman who lived a long and fruitful life. Anyone who knew Herb was a better person for having been his friend.

Funeral services were held Sept. 7 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown, with the Rev. Drs. William P. Seel and Christie S. Gravely officiating, followed by burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park.

Janet D. Alexander

Easley — Janet Dalton Alexander, 69, wife of Carlton E. Alexander, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, Sept. 5, 2016.

Janet was born in Arlington, Va., a daughter of the late Jesse Corbin and Pauline Susan Gill Dalton. She was retired from the Pickens County Board of Special Needs, where she served as an instructor. She was an active member of Geer Memorial Baptist Church in Easley, where she taught Sunday school, Bible school and worked in the nursery.

Survivors include her husband, Carlton, of the home, son, Carlton Edmond Alexander Jr., of the home, and daughters, Susan Alexander Smith (Kevin) of Taylorsville, Ky., and Jennifer Alexander White (Patrick) of Quarryville, Pa. Also surviving is a grandchild reared in the home, Justin Alexander (Rachel) of Ephrata, Pa., 10 other grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother, Dr. Roger L. Dalton (Joyce) of Easley.

Services were held Sept. 9 in the Geer Memorial Baptist Church Sanctuary in Easley, with burial following at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens in Pickens.

RUBY LOUISE LATHAN JENKINS

EASLEY ­— Ruby Louise Jenkins, 96, wife of the late Charles Willis Jenkins, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Friday, Sept. 2, 2016, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Toccoa, Ga., she was the daughter of the late Lamon and Ruby Busha Lathan and a resident of Easley since 1966.

Mrs. Jenkins was a beloved mother and grandmother, lifetime avid gardener of vegetables and flowers, a fantastic Southern cook, an artist of embroidery and crochet and the family storyteller. She was a member of Geer Memorial Baptist Church of Easley and a retired nurse’s assistant.

She is survived by two daughters, Kathy (Donnie) Haralson of Easley and Carolyn Schlock of Greer; two sons, Sidney (Connie) Jenkins and David Jenkins of Easley; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and two sisters. She was predeceased by three brothers and one granddaughter.

A service to celebrate Louise’s life was held Sept. 5 at Dillard Funeral Home in Pickens, with burial following at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

William Darrell McJunkin

Wedgefield — William Darrell McJunkin, 63, died Thursday, Sept. 1, 2016, at Palmetto Health Tuomey.

Born in Pickens, he was a son of the late William Ford McJunkin and Beulah Mae Reece McJunkin.

Mr. McJunkin attended Pinewood Baptist Church. He was employed by Sumter Transport Company.

Surviving are a son, Kelly McJunkin of Sumter; one brother, Ferrell McJunkin of Sumter; and two sisters, Janice Adkison of Florida and Linda Evatt of Pickens.

Memorial services were held Sept. 11 in the chapel of the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home, with the Rev. Bennie Barwick officiating.

Nicole Stone Bishop

Easley — Leslie Nicole Stone Bishop, 46, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2016, at her home.

Born in Pickens County, a daughter of Ray Gordon and Nancy Hensley Stone, Nicole retired from the Greenville County School District and was a member of Brushy Creek Baptist Church.

Surviving, in addition to her parents, are three daughters, Ashton Miller (Patrick) of Liberty, Alex Bishop and Kendall Bishop, both of Easley; a sister, Paige Stone Cooper (Jeff) of Easley; and three grandchildren, Payton, Mason and Londyn.

Graveside services were held Sept. 9 at Greenlawn Memorial Park.

James Lewis Sorrells

Pickens — James Lewis Sorrells, 85, went to be with his Lord Sunday Sept. 11, 2016. He is the husband of Bobbie Jean Sorrells and son of the late Rev. Horace F. and Lila Sorrells.

Mr. Sorrells retired from Ryobi as an accountant. He was a member of Elljean Baptist Church and also a Mason from the Bates Lodge and Shriner. Mr. Sorrells served our country in the United States Air Force.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Bobbie Jean Sorrells; two daughters, Pam Sorrells Senn (Delma), and Kim Sorrells Masters (Roger); one brother, Tommy Sorrells (Janie); and three sisters, Carolyn Ann Nalley (Bobby), Sue Welborn (Gene) and Patricia Greer (Ben), all of Pickens County. Mr. Sorrells also leaves in his memory four grandchildren, Jason Burgess (Sherry) Justin Burgess (Diana), Jessie Gillespie (Darren) and Kayla Rampey (Dustin); and 10 grandchildren, Jazmin Burgess, Hayden Burgess, Elin, Ean and Easton Gillespie, Carson and Asher Rampey, and Joshua, Amber and Issac Hopson.

Services were held Sept. 14 in the Dillard Funeral Home Chapel, with burial following at Greenlawn Cemetery in Easley.

CECIL H. GRANT

PICKENS — Cecil H. Grant, 88, of Pickens, passed away on Monday, Sept. 5, 2016, at Manna Health and Rehabilitation.

Born on July 13, 1928, in Pickens County, he was the son of the late Walter and Addie Hudson Grant. Mr. Grant was a proud member of the Hijaz Horse Patrol and Pickens Church of God.

Surviving are his wife, Ida Mae Grant; one daughter, Judy O’Shields (Artis); two sons, Randall Grant (Susan) and Carey Grant (Lucy); one brother, Joe Grant; four sisters, Dorothy Dodgens, Elizabeth Eades, Lou Grant and Katie Grant; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Mr. Grant was also predeceased by two brothers, James B. Grant and Donald Grant, and four sisters, Bernice Couch, Inez Grant, Bertha Townes and Veda Mae Townes.

Funeral services were held on Sept. 8 at Dillard Funeral Home. Burial followed at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
