BILLY ‘WAYNE’ BURNS

EASLEY — Billy “Wayne” Burns, 75, of W.T. Wyatt Road, passed away on Sunday, Aug. 30, 2020, at his home.

Born on July 18, 1945, in Pickens County, he was a son of the late Stiles Dendy Burns and Phoebe Owens Burns.

Mr. Burns worked in the textile industry for 43 years and retired from Wal-Mart in Easley. He was a member of Corinth Baptist Church, enjoyed gardening and was an expert mechanic.

Surviving are his beloved wife of 56 years, Ann Limbaugh Burns; daughters, Laurie Ann James (Steven) and Becki Gilstrap (Mitchell); a son, Josh Burns (Brandi); grandsons, Holland Gilstrap (Ashley), Dylan James and Jace Burns; granddaughters, Summer Burns and Belle Burns; great-grandchildren, Baron Gilstrap, Carson James, Eleanora Grace James and Evelyn Willow Gilstrap; sisters, Brenda Holliday (Ray) and Ann Becknell; a special nephew, Jason Adams (Ashley); and a special niece, Kendall A. Pruitt (Jimmy).

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Sara Simmons, and brothers, Stiles Jr., Charles, Gene, Jimmy, Alvin, Ronnie and Tommy Burns.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, Sept. 2, from 12:45-1:45 p.m. at Corinth Baptist Church, with the funeral service to follow at 2 p.m. in the church sanctuary. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

DONALD E. BOGGS

SIX MILE — First Sgt. Donald Edward Boggs, U.S. Army retired, 82, husband of Debbie Martin Boggs, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 29, 2020, at his home following a lengthy illness.

Don was born in Easley, a son of the late Walter Bentson and Bessie Mae Jones Boggs. He attended Piedmont High School and the University of South Carolina. Don faithfully served his country in the United States Army, where he served in the Vietnam War and earned medals including the Meritorious Service Medal and the Purple Heart. He retired in 1978 following 25 years of service with the rank of master sergeant. After retirement, he continued to serve in the Army Reserve and taught JROTC at the high school level. He retired from Pickens High School in 2003. He loved to golf, garden, play the guitar and spend time with his family. He had a smile that would light up the room and could tell a story like no other. He was a member of Keowee Baptist Church.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, Debbie, are children, Rick Boggs (Lynn) and their children, Jessica and Jamisen of Irmo, Bill Boggs (Pam) and their son, Will Boggs of Columbia, Mike Boggs (Theresa) and their children, Ellen and Lesley Boggs and Holt and Cohen Edwards of Yorktown, Va., Angie Bell (Shawn) and their children, Lauren and Hudson Bell of Piedmont, Rick Martin (Mac) and their children, Charlie and Corbin of Greenville, and Lindsay Poole (Jason) and their son, Ezra of Pickens; sister, Georgia Boggs Barnett of Rock Hill; and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.

In addition to his parents, Don was predeceased by his brother, Jack Aaron Boggs; and great-grandson, Alex Boggs.

Memorial services with full military honors will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 3, in the chapel of Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home and Cremations, Central-Clemson Commons.

The family will greet friends following the service at the funeral home.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the family requests all guests wear face masks and social distancing will be observed.

BARBARA ANN ALEXANDER

Pickens — Miss Barbara Ann Alexander, 86, passed from this life on Sunday, Aug. 30, 2020, at The Willows in Easley.

Miss Alexander was born in Pickens, daughter of the late John E. and Ruby Peay Alexander. A graduate of Pickens High School, Miss Alexander went on to receive a bachelor’s degree in business from Limestone College in 1982. She was retired from Ryobi Motor Products in Pickens, where she served as an accountant in the stock room. Miss Alexander was a member of Pickens First Baptist Church, where she was a member of the TEL Sunday school class, and served on the Cannon Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and Pickens Literacy Association.

Survivors include lifelong family friends, Rick and Marsha Reeves, Diane and Sammy Little and Joan and Stanley Brooks and their families.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 2, in the chapel of Dillard Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Fred Stone officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

HOYT E. MCCALL

EASLEY — Hoyt E. McCall, 78, husband of the late Brenda Ann Fortescue McCall, passed away on Friday, Aug. 28, 2020, at his home surrounded by his family.

Mr. McCall was the son of the late Elsie Carrie Morgan McCall and Loonie L. McCall. He loved his family, especially his grandchildren. He also loved gardening and was a self-employed, self-taught cabinet builder. Mr. Hoyt was well loved by everyone he met.

Survivors include four daughters, Christy McCall Porter (Robert) of Pickens, Stacy J. McCall of Easley, Rachel D. McCall (Mitchell) of Easley and Bridgette McCall Brown (Eric) of Fountain Inn; and seven grandchildren, Seth Hughes, Hayden Hughes, Matthew Hughes, Brayden Hughes, Kaylee Poole, Ansley Brown and Emerson Brown.

Mr. McCall was predeceased by his wife; parents; one sister, Zella Galloway; and four brothers, Hubert McCall, Roland McCall, Eugene McCall and Arthur McCall.

A graveside service was held on Sept. 1 at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens. Services were conducted by the Rev. James McCall and Robbie Eades.

Active pallbearers were Seth Hughes, Hayden Hughes, Matthew Hughes, Brayden Hughes, Robert Porter, Mitchell Jackson and Eric Brown.

TRACY DIANE NEAL

EASLEY — Tracy Diane Richards Neal, 50, passed away on Friday, Aug. 28, 2020, at her home.

Born in Pickens County, a daughter of the late Ronald Richards and the late Doris Diane Smith Richards, Tracy was a homemaker and of the Church of God faith. She was a kind-hearted woman who loved her children dearly and enjoyed spending time and talking with her family.

Surviving are a son, Jesse Neal of Piedmont; a daughter, Missy Neal of Piedmont; two sisters, Christy Lee Chism (Tim) of Piedmont and Nellie Pauline McDowell of Greenville; three nephews, two nieces and four great-nephews.

The family will host a memorial service at a later date.

BUDDY W. MOORE

EASLEY — The Rev. Dr. Buddy Wallace Moore, 86, husband of Audrey Laverne Bates Moore, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2020.

Dr. Moore was born in Seneca, a son of the late B. L. and Edith Rochester Moore. He started his higher education at North Greenville College, graduated from Furman University and received his doctor of theology degree from Clarksville School of Theology in Clarksville, Tenn. Dr. Moore was a retired Baptist minister and served many churches during his career, including Philadelphia Baptist Church in Marshville, N.C., Brushy Creek Baptist Church in Easley and Antioch Baptist Church, Griffin Baptist Church, Northside Baptist Church, Crescent Hill Baptist Church, all in the Pickens area. He retired from Crescent Hill Baptist Church.

Dr. Moore was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, and in his free time loved to play golf with his minister colleagues.

Survivors include his wife of nine years, Laverne Moore of the home; a son, Wally Moore (Lynn) of Marshville, N.C.; a daughter, Donna Moore Rackley of Belton; and a brother, Tom Moore (Brenda) of Fuquay-Varina, N.C. Dr. Moore is also survived by grandsons, Shelton Moore (Joellen) and Sean Moore (Mandy); great-granddaughter Edyn Moore; and great-grandson, Garrett Moore.

In addition to his parents, Dr. Moore was preceded in death by his first wife, Edith Joyce “Jo” Moore and a daughter, Sharon Moore.

A graveside service was held on Aug. 28 at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Pickens, with Dr. David Gallamore and Rev. Joshua Hughes officiating.

MICHAEL WARD MORRIS

LIBERTY — Mr. Michael Ward Morris passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2020, at the age of 68.

He was a loving husband, father and pastor. He was born in Greenville County and was the son of the late Ellis Guy Morris and Dora Edith Holybee Morris.

Mr. Michael Morris was the pastor of Liberty Christian Outreach Church in Easley. He was passionate about his faith in God, family and his church family. He loved spending time with his family and was an avid sports fan who loved watching Clemson football, playing golf, playing the guitar and spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

He is survived by his wife, Pam Davis Morris of 42 years; a son, Michael Ward Morris of Mauldin; two daughters, Casey Brewington (Christopher) of Easley and Tracy Reece (Thomas) of Liberty; and five beautiful grandchildren, Cason and Calleigh Brewington and Madison, Landon and Adelynn Reece. He loved and leaves behind his dogs, Levi and Gracie.

Mr. Morris was predeceased by his brother, Robert Ellis Morris.

A celebration of Michael Morris’ life was held on Aug. 30 in the Dillard Funeral Home chapel. Burial followed the service at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

SANDRA MOORE BALDWIN

LIBERTY — Sandra Moore Baldwin, 68, of 414 Hillandale Road, died on Friday, Aug. 28, 2020, at Easley Place.

Born in Greenville, she was the wife of Douglas Wayne Baldwin and a daughter of the late Ralph and Mildred “Bill” Kelley Moore. She was a homemaker and enjoyed sewing. She was of the Church of God faith.

Surviving, in addition to her husband, are two sons, Doug Baldwin of Anderson and Aaron Baldwin (Jessica) of Liberty; three brothers, Tony, Ricky and Chip Moore, all of Piedmont; three sisters, Nan Evans, Julie Galloway and Sue Hooper, all of Piedmont; and five grandchildren, Hunter, Easton, Brianna, Brandon and Hayley.

No services are planned at this time. The family members will be at their respective homes.

KENNETH EDWARD ROACH

PICKENS — Mr. Kenneth “Ken” Edward Roach, 85, husband of Anna Howell Roach, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2020.

Born in Easley, he was a son of the late Edward Roach and the late Stella Roach. Ken was a member of Cedar Rock Church of God. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing.

Surviving, in addition to his loving wife of 37 years, are two sons, Edward Lee Roach (Eunice Morris) of Pickens and John Roach (Kimberly) of Pickens; a stepson, Charles Edward Wilbanks; two stepdaughters, Pamela L. Boggs and Anita Celeste Wilbanks; two brothers, Ronnie Roach and Frank Roach; a sister, Pat Sexton; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Ken was predeceased by a stepson, Roy Dale Wilbanks; two brothers, Jerry Roach and Mike Roach; and three sisters, Earline Sexton, Ruth Porter and Hazel Patton.

A graveside service was held on Aug. 31 at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

FLORA ELROD

LIBERTY — Flora Ellis Elrod, 85, of Liberty, died on Thursday, Aug. 27, 2020, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Pickens, she was the widow of Lewis Dennis Kelley and a daughter of the late Jesse and Sunie Epps Simmons.

She retired from BASF and later worked for several years in the lunchroom at Central Elementary School. Mrs. Elrod was a member of Refuge Baptist Church.

Surviving are a son, Larry Kelley (Lura) of Liberty; five grandchildren, Chris Kelley (Amie) of Liberty, Elizabeth Higgs (Will) of Asheville, N.C., Hannah Arnold (Rod) of Anderson, Larissa Neal (Billy) of Liberty and Ryan Kelley (Kayla) of West Union; nine great-grandchildren; and a brother, Ray Simmons (Martha) of White, Ga.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her second husband, Alfred Dennis Elrod; and siblings, Robert Simmons, Christine Helms, Velma Mayfield, Columbus Simmons and David Simmons.

Funeral services to honor the life of Mrs. Elrod were conducted on Aug. 30 in the Liberty Mortuary chapel. Burial was held at Memory Gardens.

MELDA LEE ‘FLOSS’ MURPHY

PICKENS — Melda Lee “Floss” Murphy, 66, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2020.

She was the daughter of the late Fannie Mae Morgan Murphy and James Paul Murphy. Since Floss was a small child, she loved to play with baby dolls.

Survivors include one brother, Roy Murphy of Pickens; four nieces, Tricia McJunkin (William), Cindy Whitman (Mike), Jennifer Griffin (Barry) and Jessica Harris (Travis), all of Pickens; and two nephews, Tim Murphy (Donna) of Pickens and Buck Galloway (Christine) of Easley.

Miss Murphy was predeceased by her parents and two brothers, Bobby Joe Murphy and Chub Murphy.

A graveside service was held on Aug. 31 at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens.

WALLACE WAYNE GRAY

EASLEY — Mr. Wallace Wayne Gray, 75, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 20, 2020.

Born in Six Mile, he was the son of the late Homer and Mary Jane Riggins Gray. Mr. Gray worked in textile and brick masonry.

He is survived by his two sons, Tony Gray of Six Mile and Chad Gray of Cleveland; grandchildren, Chelsea and Alyssa; great-grandchildren, Raylan, Caiden, Hudson and Adaleigh; and brothers, J.C. Gray, Leroy Gray, Ray Gray and David Gray.

Mr. Gray was predeceased by his parents and two brothers, Thomas Gray and Gary Gray, and a sister, Mildred Brewer.

A private gathering will be held at a later date.

LYMAN B. FIELDS

EASLEY — Lyman Fields, most recently of Anderson, passed into the next life on Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2020.

A native of Easley, Mr. Fields was a graduate of Easley High School and a veteran of the United States Air Force, and later graduated from Clemson University.

He was preceded in his journey by his wife, Edith Keel; his parents, W. T. and Elizabeth Fields; his brothers, Johnnie A. and W. E. “Pete” Fields; and his sister, Helen Nance.

Lyman and Edith dedicated a significant portion of their lives to caring for Edith’s sister Pam, and in doing so set an example of love that anyone would do well to follow.

He is survived by his nieces and nephews.

Lyman was a dedicated Christian, a devoted fan of Clemson athletics and an avid bridge player.

His family would like to thank the staff and caregivers at Interim Hospice, Seneca Health and Rehabilitation and Easley Place for their care.

MAGDALENE S. WILLIAMS

EASLEY — M. Magdalene Smith Williams, widow of Howard L. Williams and daughter of James W. and Bessie M Smith, passed away on Aug. 25, 2020.

She is survived by three sons, James H. Williams of Goose Creek, Richard L. and wife Jan Williams of Wayland, Mich., and David A. and wife Becky Williams of Elgin; a special friend of the family, James Morgan; four grandchildren, Brad (wife Nicole) Williams, Stephanie (husband Chuck) Dry, Adam (wife Kari) Williams, Cody (wife Jennifer) Williams; and six great-grandchildren, Anthony, Brooke, Bradley, Palmer, Scarlett and Hadley.

She was predeceased by her brother, Amos M. Smith of Easley, and brother-in-law, James E. Williams of Lexington.

Mrs. Williams was an active member of St. Andrew United Methodist Church in Easley, where she belonged to the Lucille Searcy Sunday school class and served as chairperson of the Sweet Spirits Senior Citizens group, as well as other groups and organizations of the church for many years. She was also a volunteer at Baptist Easley Hospital and served as treasurer and VP of the Voluntary Auxiliary.

Mrs. Williams retired as Assistant vice president from First Citizens Bank after 26-plus years of service. She also served on the senior board for Belk of Easley.

Magdalene loved to plan, manage and take trips with the Sweet Spirits Group.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, Aug. 29, in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown, with the Rev. Jeff Childress officiating. Burial followed at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

KENNETH DALE JOHNSON

EASLEY ­— Mr. Kenneth Dale Johnson, 76, husband of Sandra McNeeley Johnson for 43 years, passed away on Aug. 28, 2020.

Survivors include his wife Sandra of Easley; his daughters, Wendy Johnson of Easley and Tina Bryant of Easley; grandchildren, Christopher Johnson, Jason Shorts, Joey Owens and Alyssa Johnson; six great-grandchildren; and brothers, Jimmy Johnson (Kathy) of Easley, Randy Johnson of Easley, Michael Johnson (Barbara) of Easley, Tony Johnson of Easley and Dean Johnson of Easley.

Mr. Johnson was predeceased by his parents, Odell and Irene Johnson; a son, Joey Bryant; sisters, Donna Cassell and Gail Johnson; and a brother, Pete Johnson.

A graveside service with military honors will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 17, at M.J. Dolly Cooper Veterans Cemetery (140 Inway Drive, Anderson, SC 29621).
