Joyce P. Bass

Easley — Joyce Parrish Bass, 63, of Westchester Road, died Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2014 in Richmond, Va.

Born in Chesapeake, Va., a daughter of the late Wayland Owen and Doris Juanita Tennefoss Parrish, Mrs. Bass was a licensed practical nurse and a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Surviving are her husband, Walter Bass of the home; two daughters, Patricia Joyce Condrey of Elizabeth City, N.C., and Amanda Huffman Bass of Easley; two brothers, James Parrish of N.C., and Tommy Parrish of W.Va.; a sister, Rebecca Purvis of Ga.; three grandchildren, Keeley Riley, Steven Huffman and Tommy Jenkins; and a great-granddaughter, Aubree Huffman.

Memorial services were at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 400 Farr’s Bridge Road, Greenville, SC 29617.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Kidney Foundation, 500 Taylor Street, Suite 101, Columbia, SC 29201.

Marshall Rice

Pickens – Marshall Leon Rice, 72, of Evergreen Acres Road died Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2014 at Greenville Memorial Medical Center.

Born in Seneca, he was the husband of Mary Hampton Rice of the home and the son of the late Rev. Fred and Agnes Collins Rice. After serving in the U.S. Army, he lived most of his life in Cashiers, N.C. where he owned and operated a Frazier Fir Christmas tree farm and was a bee keeper. He served the Lord faithfully until he became sick and was a member of Morning Star Independent Baptist Church. He had a strong love for Blue Grass music and during his younger years he traveled around to show his passion for gospel music.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a sister, Beth Howard of Lincolnton, N.C.; and several cousins.

Graveside services with military honors to honor the life of Mr. Rice were held at 3 p.m. Friday at M.J. “Dolly” Cooper Veteran’s Cemetery. Rev. David Ellenburg conducted the service.

Millard Franklin Avery

Easley — Mr. Millard Franklin Avery, 68, husband of Jo Ann Long Avery, died Friday, Sept. 19, 2014 at Baptist Easley Hospital.

Born in Sparks, Ga., a son of the late Carl Isaac and Myrtle Hayes Avery, Mr. Avery retired from Jim’s Family Restaurant and attended Rice’s Creek Church of God of Prophecy.

He was a U.S. Army veteran having served in the Vietnam War.

Surviving, in addition to his wife of 25 years, are two sons, Neal Franklin Avery of Lakeland, Fla., and Steven A. Watkins (Shawnna) of Locust Fork, Ala.; two daughters, Theresa Lee Barge of Cuthbert, Ga., and Melissa Watkins of Greenville; 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Avery was predeceased by one brother.
Graveside services with military honors were 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23 in Hillcrest Memorial Park with the Rev. Brandon Nixon officiating.

Margie Ramey

Pickens — Margie Adeline Ramey, 84, died Sunday, Sept. 21, 2014 at Redeemer Health and Rehab in Pickens.

Born in Pickens County, to the late Willard C. and Lillian Reeves Ramey, Margie worked for Alice Manufacturing Company at the Elljean Plant, as a cloth inspector, until her retirement.

She is survived by a brother, Roy D. Ramey of Easley; and a sister, Sue Emma Ellison of Six Mile.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by four brothers, John M. Ramey, Billy Joe Ramey, Jimmy Ramey and Henry Ramey; and a sister, Louise R. Waldrop.

Funeral services were 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 24 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown with Kelvin Naef officiating and accompanying speakers. Burial followed in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Easley.

James L. Stancell

Pickens — James Lee “Son” Stancell, 82, of Cove Creek Road, died Sunday, Sept. 21, 2014.

Born in Pickens County, he was the son of the late Larry and Josie Holcombe Stancell. Mr. Stancell was retired from Stone Manufacturing and was a Baptist.

Surviving are his children, Harold Stancell (Carolyn) of Greenville, Michael Stancell and Linda Stancell; two grandchildren, Matt Stancell (Heather) and Allison Joy (John); three great grandchildren, Braxton Stancell, Alyssa Joy and Kaylee Joy; a sister, Alline Gilstrap; and a brother, Willie Stancell.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Stancell was predeceased by a sister, Christine Childress and a brother, Ferbert Stancell.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, Sept. 24 from 2:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. at Dillard Funeral Home with a memorial service to follow at 4 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.

Mary Dean Brown

Easley — Mary Dean Stephens Brown, 75, died Sunday, Sept. 21, 2014 at her home.

Mrs. Brown was born in Pickens County, a daughter of the late James I. and Rosa Bell Bolding Stephens. She was a member of Mountain View Baptist Church where she loved singing in the choir and loved flowers and gardening. She was also an avid bowler.

Survivors include her daughter, Renee Pack and husband Lee of Simpsonville, one sister, Juanita (Neta) Hughes of Liberty and grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by sons, Michael Dean Brown and Steven David Brown.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 25 at Dillard Funeral Home in Pickens with a graveside service following at 3 p.m. at Hillcrest Memorial Park & Gardens.

Marion Tuers Stuart

Easley – Marion Tuers Stuart, 64, of Andrea Circle, wife of Donald Lee Stuart, died Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2014 at St. Francis Hospital.
Born June 24, 1950 in Morris County, N.J., she was the daughter of the late Robert and Marion Conklin Tuers.

Mrs. Stuart was a homemaker, loved to sew and NASCAR.

In addition to her husband of 45 years, she is survived by her children, Charles “Chuck” Stuart and Donna Patricia Stuart; grandchildren, Crystal Rimiller, Kendall Stuart and Matt Danback; great-grandchildren, Camille Morris, special friend, Lee LaFalce; and two brothers.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 25 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home – Powdersville Road.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday, at Robinson Funeral Home-Powdersville Road.
