Easley softball picks up two Region I-AAAA wins

EASLEY — Easley had two come-from-behind wins last week on the softball field, beating Westside and Woodmont, while also losing to Wren.

Easley had won just once in first seven games before posting the wins to improve to 3-8 overall and 2-6 in Region 1-AAAA. Easley played host to Pickens last night and will travel to West-Oak Thursday. West-Oak plays at Easley Monday.

Easley rallied with three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning and then won the game with a run in the eighth.

Brittany Kimbrough opened the eighth with a single, went to second on Taylor Jones’ groundout and scored on a single by Christen Whitmire.

Easley had tied the game in the seventh when Whitmire single and Bailey Page reached on an error. A wild pitch moved them into scoring position. Another wild pitch scored Whitmire. After Kelsey Garrett walked, Page was thrown out at third when Jenna DeVito reached on a fielder’s choice. Emily Freeman reached on a throwing error that allowed Garrett to score. Easley tied the game when Lindsay McNeely struck out but reached on a passed ball and DeVito scored.

Freeman also tried to score for the win, but was thrown out at the plate.
Whitmire had four hits, including a double, to lead Easley while Jones had three hits. Taylor Rothrock added a pair of hits and Page had a double.

Kimbrough was the winning pitcher in relief of Cassidy Evatt.
Wren 9, Easley 4
Easley had nine hits and had 12 base runners, but managed to score only four runs in losing for the second time this season to Wren.

Easley scored single runs in the first and sixth innings and pushed two home in the fourth.
The Lady Green Wave took the lead in the first when Christen Whitmire doubled and scored on a single by Bailey Page.

In the fourth, Page and Kelsey Garrett singled and Jenna DeVito walked to load the bases. With one out, Lindsay McNeely reached on a fielder’s choice that had Page out at home. Taylor Rothrock singled to score Garrett and DeVito.

Singles by Emily Freeman, McNeely and Rothrock scored another run in the sixth.
Easley 3, Woodmont 2

After giving up single runs in the first and second innings, Easley battled back for the win. Robin Bradley started the Easley rally in the sixth inning when she doubled, went to third on a single by Brittany Kimbrough and scored the winning run on a single by Christen Whitmire.

Easley had tied the game with a pair of runs in the third inning. Kimbrough opened the inning with single and went to second on a groundout by Taylor Jones. She took third on a wild pitch. Whitmire walked and stole second. Page singled to Kimbrough and Whitmire scoring on a groundout buy Kelsey Garrett.

After Easley took the lead, the Lady Green Wave had to turn back a late Woodmont rally. The Lady Wildcats loaded the bases in the top of the seventh on two singles and a walk. But a strikeout ended the threat.
