EASLEY — “I’ve been blessed,” says Terry Black.
The soft-spoken 49-year-old is the owner of Terry’s Welding & Farm Service.
A lifetime native of Pickens County, Black has set up shop between Easley and Dacusville.
Offering mobile on-site service, Terry’s Welding is not your ordinary welding company.
“Residential, commercial, farm — we fix and repair almost anything,” Black explained. “From handrails to skyscrapers.”
And he’s not joking. Through the American Welders Society, Black holds a “1-inch Unlimited Certification,” allowing him to work on heavy equipment and industrial structures.
“I’ve been welding most of my life,” he said. “I started with a friend of mine, maintaining children’s carnival rides.”
He worked for 17 years with another company before branching out on his own in 2001.
The “Farm Service” component came in 2002, when Terry was contracted by Clemson University to do some work on its research farms.
As a mobile service, Black can travel anywhere and repair machinery on-site.
“That’s especially good if you have a broken tractor or bulldozer that you can’t transport to the shop,” he said. “Just call me and I can come to you.”
The company offers both shop and field rates.
On the residential side, Black has done many custom projects for homeowners, including decorative gates, railings and window frames.
“In the future, I’d like to offer laser services that will allow us to cut and fabricate more intricate designs in the metal,” he said. “A plain gate becomes a work of art.”
For Black, no project is too small — or too big.
