Lions survive BHP to finish regular season unbeaten, win region for first time since ‘13

BELTON — No strangers to close games and crazy comebacks this season, the Daniel Lions entered Friday night’s game against the Belton-Honea Path Bears hoping to secure their first undefeated regular season and region title since 2013.
The Lions seemed poised to do just that, jumping out to a 24-7 lead at the start of the second half before the lead dissipated to just 31-28 in the waning minutes.
With the Bears driving down to the Daniel 9-yard line, things looked dire for the Lions. However, a strong pass rush and a monumental grounding penalty deflated the comeback efforts as Daniel escaped with a 31-28 victory.
