LMS to help vets at annual program

LIBERTY — Liberty Middle School will be having it’s annual Veteran’s Day program on Friday, Nov. 8, at 1:30 p.m. in the Liberty Middle Gymnasium. At this event we will be honoring our Veterans and their service to our country. The speaker will be LTC. Rick Haney, USN. Commander Haney lives in Six Mile and has been deployed twice to the Middle East.

This ceremony will also be the culmination of the school’s participation in the Citadel Heroes Project which provides personal items to South Carolina troops overseas. The students of Liberty Middle School and the Liberty Community have been collecting these items during the month of October. The items will be sent to The Citadel where they will be packed and sent or our heroes overseas.

Items needed include: FOOD ITEMS – Apple Cider Mix, Beef Jerky, Baby Powder, Cheese and Crackers, Cocoa, Condiments, Cookies, Chicken Pouches, Cracker Jacks, Cream of Wheat, Cream Packets, Drink Mixes(powdered)Granola Bars, Hard Candy, M&M’s, Microwave Popcorn, Nuts, Instant Oatmeal, Peanut Butter and Crackers, Pop Tarts, Pringles/Stax, Protein Bars, Sugar Packets, Sunflower Seeds, Tea Bags, Trail Mix, Tuna and Cracker, Tuna Pouches. PERSONAL ITEMS – Antiperspirants(unsecented), Baby Powder, Baby Wipes, Foot Powder, Gold Bond Powder, Laundry Bags(mesh), Womens Personal Hygene. CLOTHING ITEMS – Crew Socks, Foot Warmers, Hand Warmers, Knitted Caps, T-Shirts(white/cotton) ENTERTAINMENT – Car Magazines, Card games, Coloring Books, Crossword Puzzles, Crayons/Colored Pencils, DVD’s and Frisbees.
