Local Dance Teacher Wins National Award
EASLEY — Suzanne Goodman, owner and artistic director of Easley Dance Arts, Couch Lane, Easley was awarded National Dance Teacher of the Year through Boogie Fever USA.
Goodman is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte with a BA in Dance. Goodman is a member of Dance Masters of America Chapter 44. With SCDM, Suzanne is certified in ballet, tap, jazz, modern, and acro and is also a Nationally Certified Examiner in those areas.
Goodman is the chapter treasurer for SCDM as well as the Exam and Membership Chairs.
She is the current President of the Arts Council of Pickens County, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the promotion and advancement of the arts in Pickens County.
Goodman’s students have gone on to further their dance educations with such prestigious places as; Columbia College, USC, Winthrop University, College of Charleston, SC Governor’s School, Alvin Ailey, Broadway Dance Center, and NYC Ballet Summer Intensive. Her students have performed with the Opening Ceremonies of the 1996 Atlanta Summer Olympics, NYC Rockettes, Caroline Calouche Co, Annex Dance Co, and NC Dance Theatre (Charlotte Ballet) Outreach. Her choreography has received high honors at both regional and national competitions. She has had numerous pageant winners and title holders for SCDM.
Goodman’s main goal as a dance educator is “to inspire a love for the art of dance in each student I teach”.
Robbie Anderson, Boogie Fever USA, said as he was announcing the winner that this teacher cares about the success of each and every one of her students and love them each for who they are. She understands each student brings something different to the stage and she makes them shine best at that. This teacher is supportive to everyone at competition and is always an encourager.
