Local woman convicted of taking Marine ex-husband’s death benefits

FLORENCE — A Pickens woman has been convicted of stealing more than $37,000 from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
According to reports, Megan Mosteller, 26, was convicted last week in a federal trial held in Florence.
In the case, the jury was told that Mosteller was married to Jeremy Mosteller for a few months, but the two later separated in 2007.
Mosteller was a United States Marine and was killed in 2008. The convicted filed for survivor benefits and claimed she lived with the marine up until the time he died.
The convicted later remarried, but retained the Mosteller name in order to keep getting survivor benefits.
Mosteller has not yet been sentenced in the case.
