Locals take part in the 2016 Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas
SPARTANBURG — Pickens County was well represented during last weekend’s Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas. Daniel offensive lineman Zac McIntosh was selected to play for the South Carolina squad, and former Pickens Blue Flame and current Hanahan head coach Charlie Patterson was selected as an assistant coach.
Senior offensive lineman Zac McIntosh (6’0″, 275 pounds) was the only player from Pickens County selected for the all-star game.
Patterson (left) is a native of Pickens and has been a football coach for 29 years in the state of South Carolina. Patterson played college football at Presbyterian College, where he was a four-year letterman. He started his coaching career at Goose Creek High School. His first head coaching job was at West Florence High School. He coached at Gaffney High before taking the head coaching position at Hanahan in 2008. He has led Hanahan to a 63-31 record over his tenure. In 2013, he was named the Lower State 3A coach of the year by the S.C. Coaches Association. Over the last six seasons at Hanahan, Patterson’s team has won the region five times, with a compiled a 29-1 record in region play.
North Carolina edged out South Carolina 17-10 in last Saturday’s contest.
