Man drowns at Gap Hill
SIX MILE — The Pickens County Dive Team pulled the body of a 36-year-old man from the waters of Lake Keowee in the morning hours on Monday.
Pickens County Coroner Kandy Kelley said Timothy J. Clayton came to Gap Hill Landing around around 7:45 a.m. Witnesses said Clayton was dropped off at the landing by a truck and walked out on a dock before diving in to swim. He swam out and then appeared to have trouble before going under, witnesses said.
Kelley said after Clayton failed to come up, the Pickens County Dive Team was called and found Clayton’s unresponsive body. He was transported to Cannon Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The drowning is still under investigation by the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office and Pickens County Coroner.
