Murphy brothers take home 5 golds

LIBERTY — The Berkshire-Pickens Wrestling Club hosted a USAW sanctioned tournament on Saturday at Liberty High School, and a club-record 28 members took home medals.

The tournament featured 100 wrestlers from all over the upstate

Liberty brothers Cole and Chris Murphy took golds in both Greco-Roman and Freestyle, while younger brother Kaleb garnished his first gold in Freestyle.

Tanner Chambers, also of Liberty, also took home double gold for the fourth time this season.

Other BPWC wrestlers earning double medals from Liberty were Jacob Rogers, who had a silver in Freestyle and gold in Greco; Gaitlin Bell, double silver; Jimmy Knot, bronze in Freestyle and silver in Greco. They were joined by Pickens’ Garrett Kloth, who took a gold and a bronze in two different Freestyle weight classes. Liberty’s Matt Frey took silver in both styles; Ben Lingefeld, Anderson, took Bronze in both styles, as did Grant John Mason, Easley, who earned double Bronze, and Liberty’s Saul Rosa, wrestling in two Freestyle Open divisions, grabbed a silver and a gold.

Dakota Stewart of Liberty and Bo Aatrun both earned golds in Freestyle, while brothers Tristan and Trinity Oglesby of Norris each garnished silver medals. Other silver medalists were Wren’s Dillon Bailey and Liberty’s Sammy Vidal.

Six club members from Liberty took home Bronze medals in Freestyle, including Sky Weimer, Tyler Weimer, Adrian Weimer, Nikki Weidman, Avery Radford and Blake Chandler.

Bronze medal winners in Freestyle were Six Mile’s Trey Smith, Pickens’ Carson Owenby and Marietta’s Jonah Castonguay.

BPWC returns to the mats on May 11 at a USAW-Georgia-sanctioned tournament to be held at Parkview High School in Lilburn, Ga.
