Ken Maxey
Norris — Jessie Kenneth “Ken” Maxey, 70, of 302 Robinson Bridge Road, died on Wednesday, April 18, 2012.
Born in the Ebenezer Community of Oconee County he was a son of the late Jessie James and Della Holbrooks Maxey. Ken retired from Liberty Life Insurance Company after 28 years, was a former Mayor of Norris for eight years, and was a founding member of the Norris Volunteer Fire Department where he served for 42 years. He was member of Tate Masonic Lodge, #292 A.F.M., a member of Fairview Baptist Church, and was an avid outdoorsman and gardener. Ken was a family man who loved his wife and children, and adored his grandchildren who were the light of his life.
Surviving are his wife, Glenda Pinion Maxey of the home; a daughter and son in law, April and John Bragg of Lexington; two sons and daughters in law, Alan and Wanda Maxey of Greer, and Kevin and Cindy Maxey of Easley; a sister, Christine Pilgrim of Central; a brother, Bobby Maxey of Norris; six grandchildren, Jessie, Abigale, Lawson, and Kade Maxey, and Judson and Avery Bragg.
Funeral services to honor the life of Mr. Maxey were 3 p.m. Saturday in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel. Burial was at Welcome Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family welcomed any member of the fire service to be honorary escorts.

Omie W. Brown
Easley — Omie Wright Brown, 92, of Easley, died Thursday, April 19, 2012.
Born in Aug. 1919, in Fork Shoals she was the daughter of the late William C. Wright and the late Mary Ann Reiner. She was also predeceased by her husband of 58 years, William Paul Brown. They worked in textiles, had a farm in Pickens on Bethlehem Ridge Road. Resided and cared for at Countryside Village, Easley for the last five years, she previously resided at Atlantic Avenue in Easley. She loved her home and prided herself with keeping house, cooking, flower arranging, and being a caregiver for her family. She mainly worked in textiles at Brandon Mill, Arial Mill (where she met Paul), and retired from Mayfair Mills (Glenwood Plant). She also sold Cort Cosmetics. She had several lovely caregivers in her home including her sister, Mickey Hester; a niece, Jackie Youngblood; and a great niece, Stephanie Doll.
She and her husband had two children, William Doyce Brown (Margaret) of Easley and Joyce Ellen Brown Powell (Mike) of Easley; grandchildren, Joseph (Joey) Brown, Tracey R. Lyons of Spartanburg, Darla P. Welsh of Greenville and GY Sgt. Lanny B. Powell (M Sgt. Sonia Powell, USMC) of North Carolina; seven great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister, Mildred “Mickey” Hester (Guy) of Easley.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by siblings, Frances W. Bagwell, Rachel Hester Goss, Benjamin Wright, Elizabeth (Till) Wilson, and Willie Joe Wright; infant siblings, Vernon, Matthew and Ruth; her stepmother, Ada Fortner Wright; and a grandson, Jeffrey Brown.
Many thanks to the aids and nurses at Countryside Village and SouthernCare Hospice for the wonderful care they provided.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, April 22 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Dillard Funeral Home. Burial followed in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Sarah Johnston
Liberty — Sarah Cook Johnston, 81, of 12 Mills Court, died peacefully on Thursday, April 19, 2012 at Heritage Healthcare in Six Mile.
Born in Central she was the widow of B.D. Johnston, Jr. and a daughter of the late John and Allene Clardy Cook. She retired from Sir Shirt Maker and was a member of First Baptist Church of Norris.
Surviving are two sons, Benny and Charles Johnston of Liberty; a sister, Johnnie Ebelein of Greenville; four grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by a son, Bruce Johnston, a sister, Mary Alice Cook, and a brother, Donald Cook.
Funeral services to honor the life of Mrs. Johnston were 3 p.m. Sunday in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel conducted by the Rev. Dr. Royce Addis. Burial was at Abbott Cemetery.

Stephen “Ace” Bowie
Easley — Mr. Stephen “Ace” Anthony Bowie, 64, of 400 Four Lakes Dr., husband of Jean DeVore Bowie, died Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at McCall Hospice House.
Born June 11, 1947 in Greensboro, N.C., Ace was a son of the late Paul Edward and Earline Davis Bowie. He graduated from Clemson University, and he was a Manufacturers Representative in tool and die for JDB, Inc. for 18 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church. As of April 18, Ace is singing with the heavenly choir in the tenor section. Ace cherished his family, friends, Clemson Football, beach music, and most of all Jesus Christ, his Lord and Savior.
In addition to his wife of 44 years, he is survived by his son, Dr. Anthony Bowie (Susan), daughter, Stephanie King (Todd) all of Greenville; brothers, Pat Bowie of LaGrange, Ga., Greg Bowie of Spartanburg and Don Bowie, of Woodruff; and five grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a brother, Paul E. Bowie III.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 21 at First Baptist Church, Easley with the Rev. Dr. John Adams officiating. Burial followed in Robinson Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers were the members of his band, The Pieces of Eight.

Harold “Bug” Cox
Easley — Harold Junior “Bug” Cox, 74, of Easley, husband of the late Tommie Jo “Jody” Turner Cox, died Friday, April 20, 2012, at Baptist Easley Hospital.
Mr. Cox was born in Easley to the late Robert Lawrence and Dessie Yates Cox. He was employed by Alice Manufacturing Company, Elljean Plant. Mr. Cox enjoyed vacations, going to the mountains, the beach and having yard sales.
Surviving are two brothers, Lawrence Cox (Mary) and William Cox (Lib), all of Easley; and two sisters, Jessie Mae Meece and Ethel Cassell, both of Easley; a daughter-in-law, Sherri Derrick Cox; two grandchildren, Brandi Cox Riddle (Jason) and Brett Cox; and two great-grandchildren, Brayson and Tyler Riddle.
In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Cox was predeceased by a son, Tommy Harold Cox; two brothers, Ralph and Joel Cox; and a sister, Jeannette Parker Snipes.
Funeral services were 2:30 p.m. Monday in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown. Burial followed at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Pickens.

Herbert Howard Hendricks
Easley — Mr. Herbert Howard Hendricks, 76, of 527 Old Cedar Rock Rd, husband of the late Nancy Golden Hendricks, died Sunday, April 22, 2012 at his home.
Born Aug. 19, 1935 in Pickens County, he was a son of the late Matthew and Lillian Smith Hendricks. Mr. Hendricks was a self employed plumber and electrician and a member of Trinity Wesleyan Church.
He is survived by his children, Harold Hendricks (Shirley) of Easley and Pamela Lioen of Falcon, Colo., brother, James Hendricks of Central; sister, Hazel Patterson of Liberty; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, John Hendricks and Leroy Hendricks.
Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 25 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Powdersville Road. Burial followed in Robinson Memorial Gardens.

Lois Blanche Lawrence
Pickens — Lois Blanche Lawrence, 86, formerly of Greenville, died April 12 at Manna Health and Rehab in Pickens surrounded by her loved ones.
Born Feb. 11, 1926 in Toccoa, Ga. to the late Ruth Phillip. Lois retired as a cook from Ted’s Kitchen in Greenville.
She is survived by 1 daughter, Sandra Lawrence (Doug Scott) of Pelzer; 13 Grandchildren, 41 Great Grandchildren and 43 Great Great Grandchildren.
She was predeceased by daughters; Mildred Crane, Sue Cawthon and Judy Thorpe; Grandchildren, Tony & Al Cawthon and Leon Crane; Great Great Grandson, Austin Septon; Brothers, Johnny and Lee Phillips; Sisters, Frances Sara Jordan and May Phillips.

Charles T. Fricks
Easley — Charles Tilman Fricks, 78, husband of the late Frances Mildred Owens Fricks, died Thursday, April 19, 2012 at Richard M. Campbell Veterans Nursing Home.
Born in Oconee County, the son of the late Loyd T. and Clara Beth Rowland Fricks, Mr. Fricks retired from Singer and was a member of Jones Avenue Baptist Church.
Surviving are one son, Larry Bryant of Easley; four daughters, Diane Fricks of Charlotte, N.C., Brenda Maw (Paul) of Liberty, Peggy Taylor of Liberty and Kathy Watts of Easley; two grandsons, Steven Maw of Clemson and Curt Taylor of Greenwood; one granddaughter, Alisha Thompson of Liberty; and two great-grandchildren, Katie and Seth Thompson.
Funeral services were 2 p.m. Saturday, April 21 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown with the Rev. Roger Couch officiating. Burial followed in Greenlawn Memorial Park.

Tommy Gene Bridges

Six Mile — Tommy Gene Bridges died at his home in Six Mile on April 19, 2012. Tommy is the son of the late Lawrence Shirley Bridges and Annie Kathleen Jacobs Bridges. He was born at Fort Bragg, N.C. on March 8, 1938. He graduated from Dreher High School and attended the University of S.C. He was employed by Columbia Distributors and later Palmetto Lawn and Leisure. During his younger years Tommy was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. After marriage he was a loved member of Wesley Memorial UMC in Columbia, S.C. and later moved to Lexington, S.C. where he was a vital part of the church family of St. John’s Lutheran Church. Tommy could repair small engines, build homes for Habitat for Humanity and upon retirement helped his family and friends with anything and everything they needed. He had a very deep love for his wife, Ann of 53 years. He served his country as part of the National Guard at McIntyre AFB. His unit spent time at Moron Air Base, Spain during the Berlin Crisis I 1961. Tommy will be greatly missed by the many lives he touched.
Tommy is survived by his beloved wife Ann Daniel Bridges and son Tommy Gene Bridges, Jr. of Six Mile; faithful pet “Sweetie Pie”; adopted son Jaime Cuellar of El Salvador and Columbia.
A special thanks to Dr. Steven Madden and his Research Coordinator Carolyn Brown for their care and support; to Medi Home Hospice, Seneca; and special friend Becky McMakin.
A memorial service was held at University Lutheran Church 111 Sloan Street, Clemson, S.C. at 7 p.m. on Sunday, April 22. An additional service will be held 4 p.m. on Friday, April 27 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lexington where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Jerry H. Black

Easley — Mr. Jerry Haden Black, 66, husband of Barbara Ann Julian Black died Friday, April 20, 2012 at his home.
Born in Pickens County, a son of Margaret Gray Black, of Easley, and the late Clifton Willie Black, Mr. Black was a retired machinist, a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church and a Veteran of the U.S. Army.
Surviving in addition to his wife and mother are a daughter, Tammy Black of Easley; one brother, John G. Black (Barbara) of Easley; and a sister, Geraldine B. Ramey (Mike) of Easley.
Funeral services were 2 p.m. Monday, April 23 at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Janie Waldrop
Easley — Janie Pearson Waldrop, 92, of 107 South Third Street, wife of the late Marvin Dee Waldrop, Sr., died Sunday, April 22, 2012 at Capstone Health & Rehab.
Born in Anderson County, a daughter of the late Charlie Claude and Genie Thrasher Pearson, Mrs. Waldrop retired from the Easley Plant of Woodside Mills and was a member of Geer Memorial Baptist Church where she belonged to the Naomi Sunday School Class.
Surviving are two sons, Jerry Waldrop (Darlene) and Tony Waldrop (Doris), all of Easley; a sister, Claudia Cantrell of Easley; 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Waldrop was predeceased by two sons, Marvin Dee Waldrop, Jr., and James “Rabbit” Waldrop, and by five brothers and three sisters.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown with the Rev. Phil McAlister officiating. Burial will follow in Westview Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1 until 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, prior to the service.
