Carmon Cassell
Pickens — Amos Carmon Cassell, 75, husband of Faye Hoxit Cassell, died Thursday, March 1, 2012.
Carmon was born in Pickens County, a son of the late Robert and Bertha Cassell. He was retired from Holly Springs Elementary School as custodian and also was a bus driver for 14 years. He was a member of Eastatoe Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 24 years, Faye of the home, step-son Markus Bates of Pickens, step daughters Frinda Jackson of Westminster, and Opal Bates of Liberty, five grandchildren Jason, Christy, Jeremy, Joseph and Jessica and one great grandchild. Also surviving are brothers, Cartee Cassell and Clifton Cassell both of Pickens and sisters, Christine Lewis and Carrie Lee Lewis both of Pickens and Cleon Meece of Easley.
Funeral services were conducted 3 p.m. Monday, March 5 in the chapel of Dillard Funeral Home. Burial followed at Holly Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.

Christine Cassell
Pickens — Christine Gertrude Blackston Cassell, 88, widow of the late James Troy Cassell and formerly of Keowee Lane, died Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2012 at Redeemer Health & Rehab in Pickens.
Mrs. Cassell was born in Pickens County, a daughter of the late B. D. and Lissie Cater Blackston. She was a homemaker and was formerly employed with The Singer Company (now Ryobi) in Pickens. She was a member of Fairview Baptist Church.
Survivors include her son Donald R. “Don” Cassell (Bonnie) of Liberty and her daughter Joyce C. Alexander of Sunset and daughter-in-law Margaret W. Cassell of Pickens. Also surviving are nine grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren and her step-sister Mary Lee Finley of Liberty.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Cassell was also preceded in death by a son James Edward Cassell and a daughter Doris Cassell Bowman.
A graveside was conducted 11 a.m. Friday at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens in Pickens.

Chuck Gilcrease

Pickens — Charles F. “Chuck” Gilcrease, 77, husband of Mildred Snow “Millie” Gilcrease, died Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2012.
Chuck was born in Zowelle, La. a son of the late Edward and Hazel Adams Gilcrease. He was retired from The U. S. Air Force with service during Viet Nam and later retired as an electrician with The Greenville Hospital System. Chuck was a member of Oolenoy Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and was a member of The Auditorium Sunday School Class.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Millie Snow Gilcrease of the home, sons Charles Scott Gilcrease of the home and Steven Keith Gilcrease (Jane) of Pickens, grandchildren, Kendall, Isham, Catherine and Elizabeth Gilcrease and great grandchildren, Isaiah Brady, Jackson Gilcrease, and Grace Williams. Also surviving are brothers Thomas Gilcrease of Orange, Texas and David Gilcrease of Huntsville, Texas.
In addition to his parents, Chuck was preceded in death by a brother, Henry Gilcrease and a sister Murline Barrow.
Funeral services were conducted 2 p.m. Friday at Oolenoy Baptist Church with the Rev. Derrel Robinson and the Rev. J. Carroll Plemmons officiating.

Pete Lackey
Six Mile — Donnie Lee “Pete” Lackey, Sr., 57, of 138 Gin Shoals Road, died Thursday, March 1, 2012 at Cannon Memorial Hospital in Pickens.
Born in Anderson he was a son of Mildred Virginia Duncan Lackey and the late Buford C. Lackey.
Surviving in addition to his mother of Easley are his wife, Dianne Karr Lackey of the home; two daughters, Christina Dianne Lackey Davis of Liberty, and Leslie Dawn Lackey Smith of Pendleton; a son, Donnie Lee Lackey, Jr. of Easley; a sister, Deborah Lester of Liberty; a brother, Danny Ray Lackey of Six Mile; six grandchildren, Brady & Cory Davis, Christopher & Joshua Lackey, and Brennan & Sienna Smith.
Funeral services to honor the life of Mr. Lackey were 2 p.m. Monday at Central Crossroads Church of God. Burial was at Westview Cemetery.

John Franks, Jr.
Pickens — John Franks, Jr., 81, of 213 Holly Springs School Road died Thursday March 1, 2012. 
He was retired from Ryobi. Mr. Franks was predeceased by his wife Mae Glee Franks.
Survivors include two sons; Roger and Tim Franks both of Pickens, and one daughter, Toni (Bill) Nix of Pickens, seven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
Services were 2 p.m. Monday at Pickens Independent Church. Burial followed in Hillcrest Memorial Park in Pickens. 
Palmetto Mortuary in charge of arrangements.

Margaret C. Hucks
Pickens — Margaret Causey Hucks, 90, formerly of Sunrise Lane, and wife of the late Rev. Earl Hucks, died Thursday, March 1, 2012.
Born in Horry County, she was the daughter of the late George Dawson Causey and Jet Gore Causey. Mrs. Hucks was a retired School Food Service Manager and was a member of Pickens View Wesleyan Church.
Surviving are three sons, Clennon Hucks (Diane) of Greer, George Edward Hucks, Sr. (Cathy) of Greensboro, N.C. and Larry Hucks of Richmond, Va.; 11 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; and a son-in-law, George Gatlin of Pickens.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a daughter, LeJette H. Gatlin; two brothers and a sister.
A service to celebrate Mrs. Hucks’ life was held on Sunday, March 4 at 3 p.m. at Pickens View Wesleyan Church. Burial followed in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Helen K. Crowe
Liberty — Helen Kathleen Crowe, 91, of 25 Iselin Street, died peacefully on Friday, March 2, 2011 at Cannon Memorial Hospital.
Born in Liberty she was a daughter of the late Alec and Anna Sanders Crowe. She retired from Woodside Mill and was a longtime member of East Side Baptist Church.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Surviving are several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by three brothers, and two sisters.
Funeral services to honor Ms. Crowe’s life were 3 p.m. Sunday in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel. Burial was at Abbott Cemetery.

Bob Spearman
Easley — Robert Reece “Bob” Spearman, 72, of 301 Four Lakes Drive, died Saturday, March 3, 2012 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.
Born in Pickens County, Mr. Spearman was a son of the late Jacob Marshall and Sara McMahan Spearman. He graduated from Easley High School in 1958 and attended Clemson University, where he studied Civil Engineering. He founded Spearman Land Surveying Co. in Easley, and he was a member of Northwest Chapter of the South Carolina Society of Professional Land Surveyors. A former realtor with Barnes and Associates, Inc., he was co-founder of Golden Key Realty Co. and co-founder of Dunn and Associates Engineers of Easley and Nu-South Surveying Co. in Anderson. Mr. Spearman was a founding director and a member of the Board of Directors of Cornerstone National Bank. His activities included being a member of Joe’s Coffee Club, Montana Fishing Club, and Spero Hunt Club, Abbeville. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Easley, where he belonged to the E.R. Eller Sunday School Class.
Surviving are his wife, Phyllis Owen Spearman of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Marie and Topher Berry of Aiken; two brothers, John M. Spearman (Ruby) of Easley and Dr. William W. Spearman (Lucy) of Pickens; and three grandchildren, Reece, Emily, and Christa Berry.
Funeral services were 3 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church of Easley with the Rev. Dr. John Adams and the Rev. Rick Baumgarner officiating.
Escort of Honor were the E.R. Eller Sunday School Class, members of the Board of Directors of Cornerstone National Bank, Joe’s Breakfast Club, the Montana Fishing Club, and the Spero Hunt Club.
A private committal followed in Greenlawn Memorial Park.

Melvin E. Brooks

Central — Melvin Eugene Brooks, 81, of Central died, Saturday, March 3, 2012 at his home with his wife and loving pet “Precious” and many family members.
He was born in Cateechee, the son of the late Joseph Henry and Leila Collins Brooks. Melvin was a remarkable man who married his wife Mildred in 1950 and shared 61 years together. He was a retired employee with Pleasant Hardware in Greenville, was a U.S. Air Force veteran and was a Past Master and served as Grand Deputy of the Central Lodge #229 AFM. He also attended Trinity Wesleyan Church.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a brother, Charles W. (Judy) Brooks of Ocoee, Fla.; sisters, Lois Angeline Tate of Gastonia, N.C., Bobbie Grace (Milton) Kelley of Central, Jo Anne (Irby) Pelfrey of Norris, Leona (Doc) Bradham of Seneca; half-sisters, Donna Mosey of Lilburn, Ga. and Janet Angel of Dallas, N.C.; “special grandchildren”, Briana Barrett, Brooke and Trey Cantrell; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by brothers Heywood Maxell Brooks and Earle Matthew Brooks.
Funeral services will be 3 p.m., Wednesday in the chapel of Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home with the Revs. Jim Wiggins and Don Milstead officiating. Entombment will follow in Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends prior to the service starting at 1:30 p.m.

Lola Finley Cartee
Easley — Mrs. Lola Finley Cartee, 87, of 111 Scotland Rd., wife of the late William Brown Cartee, died Thursday, March 1, 2012 at Baptist Easley Hospital.
Born Sept. 20, 1924 in Pickens County, she was the daughter of the late Devid and Mattie Tinsley Finley. She retired from Alice Manufacturing with 35 years of service and was a member of Park Street Baptist Church.
She is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Merck of Easley; grandson, Tory Merck and wife Dawn of Greenville; and brother, Bruce Finley and wife Jerry of Easley.
Graveside services were conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 4 at Greenlawn Memorial Park with the Rev. Dr. Alton Nix officiating.

Saundra N. Gibson
Easley — Mrs. Saundra Gale Norris Gibson, 67, wife of Jimmy Lee Gibson, died, Sunday, March 4, 2012.
Born in Baltimore, Md., a daughter of the late Rev. Edwin J. and Sara Campbell Norris, Mrs. Gibson was a Teacher’s Assistant at Hagood Elementary School and a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church.
Surviving in addition to her husband of the home, are a son, Jeff Gibson (Dana) of Liberty; two daughters, Sherry Burris (John) of Piedmont and Diane Bailey (Brian) of Japan; one brother, Aaron Norris (Willette) of Simpsonville; one sister, Edwina Ervin (Gary) of Travelers Rest; and eight grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday, March 9 at Rock Springs Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. David Gallamore and Chaplain Brian Bailey officiating. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Visitation will be from 12 until 1:45 p.m. Friday prior to the service, at the church.
The family is at the home.

Margaret McQueen
Easley — Margaret Marie Capps McQueen, 98, formerly of 305 Turner Street, wife of the late Arthur Ott McQueen, died Monday, March 5, 2012 at Hosanna Health & Rehab.
Born in Pickens County, the daughter of the late John W. and Ada Orr Capps, Mrs. McQueen retired as a nursing assistant with Alta Vista Nursing Center and was a member of Cedar Rock Church of God.
Mrs. McQueen was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by two brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
Visitation will be from 1 until 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home prior to the service.
