Officers: Man kills self after shooting daughter
PICKENS — The Pickens Police Department and Pickens County Sheriff’s Office are still investigating after they say a man shot his teenage daughter then killed himself Sunday night.
According to a news release, Pickens Police were dispatched to 213 Timber Drive in Pickens at approximately 11:15 p.m. Sunday in response to a report of a juvenile being shot.
The victim, a 16-year-old white female, was transported by EMS to Greenville Memorial Hospital with a bullet wound to her left shoulder.
Officers say the father of the 16-year-old fired several other shots during the incident, but no one else was injured.
The victim’s father, Andrew John Kowszik, 44, of the home, then locked himself in the residence and would not respond to police, according to the release.
The Pickens County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team was called to the scene and made entry into the residence. Upon entry, they found that Kowszik had locked himself in his bedroom and taken his own life using the same weapon the 16-year-old had been shot with.
The incident is still under investigation.
