Officials: Student arrested with gun
15-year-old removed from school without incident
PICKENS — A Pickens High School student was arrested after being found with a gun on campus last week.
According to School District of Pickens County spokesman John Eby, a PHS student told a school resource officer at about 8 a.m. last Friday about a threat made by another student the previous night.
“The officer and an assistant principal acted immediately to question the student accused of making the threat,” Eby said.
The officials allegedly found a gun in the possession of the 15-year-old student. The gun was confiscated, and the student was arrested and removed from the school without incident, Eby said.
“We want to commend the student who contacted the school resource officer and prevented any violent action,” he said. “We also commend the school resource officer and the Pickens High School administration for responding swiftly to keep the school safe and the learning environment undisturbed.”
Because of the age of the student arrested, no other information will be released, police said.
