Blue Flame see highs and lows in Smith’s final season

PICKENS — Moving into one of Class 4A’s toughest regions this season, the Pickens Blue Flame still managed to get close to .500 in head coach Chad Smith’s final season at the helm of the program.

Smith will be stepping down as head coach while remaining athletic director at the school.

The Blue Flame opened the 2022 season with a bang as they traveled to Iva in week 0 to take on Crescent. In a back-and-forth contest, the Blue Flame managed to come out on top 31-28 after a late sack by Landon McKinney dashed the Tigers’ hopes.

Tigers ‘respond’ to end Cardinals’ hot streak

CLEMSON — The Clemson Tigers won at home for the 39th straight time on Saturday, as they responded to a pair of disappointing performances with a dominant 31-16 win over Louisville.

“The word this week was just ‘respond,’” linebacker Barrett Carter said. “(The coaches) challenged us to respond this week after the loss (to Notre Dame), and I think we did that tonight.”

ROGER JOHN LINDSAY

PICKENS — Mr. Roger John Lindsay, 82, loving husband of Judy Lindsay, passed away peacefully on Nov. 12, 2022, at his residence.

Roger was born in Spartanburg, on Feb. 23, 1940, to the late John and Vivian Caldwell Lindsay. In the 1950s, he held the South Carolina state high jump record for 10 years. Roger graduated from the University of South Carolina and then proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force and the National Guard. He was most known for his love of the outdoors, especially bow

DAR observes National Day of Service

EASLEY — This year for the National Day of Service, the Fort Prince George chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution collected school supplies for three local schools and delivered them to the staff of Lakes and Bridges Charter School, Liberty Primary School and Pickens Elementary School.

Historic Hampton House 1908 has opened to the public. The former Gilstrap home on Hampton Avenue in Pickens will be host to weddings, corporate events, leadership/diversity and inclusion training and curated special events like foodie getaways, girls’ weekends, etc. On hand to cut the ribbon were owner Beth Velner and officials from the city of Pickens, Greater Pickens Chamber of Commerce and Pickens County Historical Society. • Six Mile Baptist to host ‘Feast-O-Plenty’

Six Mile Baptist Church will host the 15th annual “Feast-o-Plenty” from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19.
