UNION — Trailing 55-54 with less than 30 seconds left in overtime of a second-round playoff matchup at fifth-ranked Union County on Friday night, the fate of the Daniel High School boys’ basketball team’s state championship hopes rested in the hands of Bobby Taylor.

Taylor, an all-state senior playing in what could have been his final game in the blue and gold, passed out of his initial touch before an errant pass nearly went over his head. With the ball back in his possession, he knew the game was going

Easley girls win first playoff game since ‘05, fall in round 2

EASLEY — When Ivan Raymond took over an Easley High School girls’ basketball program that had gone 10-86 over the previous five years in May 2019, playoff basketball must have seemed like a distant dream to the Green Wave.

Last Wednesday night, that dream became a reality as the Easley girls took on Eastside in their first playoff game in 15 years, thrashing the Eagles in a 57-38 win.

“We knew this was big for our girls,” Raymond said of the Green Wave’s playoff win. “They’ve worked so hard. They spend five days a week either lifting or in the gym. The commitment they made didn’t show in year one, didn’t show in year two, but they kept going and now it’s showing.”

Easley senior forward Kylie Nabors has seen the program move from the doldrums to where it is now and attributes the change to the hard work of her teammates and their head coach.

“It’s turned around a lot, and a lot of that credit goes to Coach Raymond,” Nabors said. “He’s put

Blue Flame girls advance for first time since 2012

PICKENS — The curtain came down last week on the Pickens High School Lady Blue Flame girls’ basketball season, but not before the team traveled to Greenville High School for the first round of the playoffs and defeated the Lady Red Raiders in their home gym — the program’s first postseason win since 2012.

“I am extremely proud and honored to coach such an amazing group of young ladies,” Pickens coach Rikki Owens said. “They are the toughest little group I have ever coached, and they should be proud of themselves for the legacy they have left behind for future Lady Blue Flame players.”

The 2021-22 season ended for the Pickens girls on Friday in Blythewood when the Lady Blue Flame

CENTRAL — In the final five minutes of Thursday’s first-round playoff game, the Daniel High School girls’ basketball team cut Fairfield Central’s lead to three points on three separate occasions.

“As soon as we would go two steps forward, they would hit a shot and we would go five steps back,” Daniel head coach Cosandar Griffin said after the 33-28 loss that ended the Lions’ season. “It was disappointing to see, but I

EASLEY — Going 7-1 down the stretch and hosting their first playoff game since 2012, the Easley Green Wave boys’ basketball team seemed like a team capable of making a playoff run when it took the court against Laurens on Thursday night.

However, without senior all-state guard Kain James, the Green Wave watched a seven-point lead evaporate in the fourth quarter in a season-ending 39-35 loss.

James, Easley’s leading scorer, missed the game with an illness, according to head coach

What lurks in the mind of a dog?

Have you ever wondered about a dog’s decision-making ability? About what moves them to action and what they perceive as a threat?

We all know that dogs are territorial and interested in protecting the people in their lives. Yes, sometimes they don’t use good judgment. But who among us can claim that humans always do?

Boomer, our boxer bulldog, is one of the sweetest dogs we’ve ever owned. His temperament is laid back, friendly
