Six Mile park construction to pick up

Six Mile town clerk Rita Martin said last week the town is working with two engineers and an architect on design plans for the Six Mile Community Park on Main Street. “The first thing we’re going to start doing is the pavilion,” she said. “And we’ve got drawings, architectural drawings, but the holidays have sort of put a stop there. But hopefully, once the year gets rolling, hopefully we’ll actually get to start on that. We’ve not actually constructed anything out there, but if you take a look, you can see little markers and where they’ve cut limbs off of trees to actually be ready to have it start to go up.”

A push from Councilman Fran McGuire for the action fell after dissenting votes from Mayor Robert Halfacre and Councilmen John Ducworth, John Fulmer and Bob Brookover.

“I think we need this,” McGuire said when talking about his proposal to help slow the spread of COVID-19 and its more transmissible omicron variant. “It makes me more confident we can

CLEMSON — The Twelve Mile Recreation Area is a little quieter this time of season, but the park leased by Clemson from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will still feature some activity in the form of upgrades.

“At some point, going into this offseason, we want to address some things hopefully infrastructure-wise and hopefully limb some trees up and take care of some things we couldn’t take care of by taking everything on in the spring right when everything got busy,” city horticulturist Tony Tidwell said recently. “Now we can sort of take a deep breath and have a little better strategy

An optimistic look into the future

Last week I wrote a satirical, and perhaps even snarky, look at the year just past and the one just beginning.

I like to have fun with my writing sometimes.

Now let me put on one of my other hats for a more optimistic look ahead.

Let’s start with the big picture: the universe.

On Christmas Day, NASA, in cooperation with the European Space Agency and the Canadian Space Agency, launched the James Webb Space Telescope. It will give us a great look at all

Beware of unresolved resolutions

We are plunging into a New Year that requires a retrospective look at our failings and our desire to make a resolution to do better. The fact that we must review our actions for the past year assumes that we have flaws, we’ve made mistakes and we’re not perfect. Therefore, we must make resolutions to improve our destiny.

The most popular weaknesses and personality imperfections indicate a need to lose weight, exercise more to get fit, get organized, save money, spend more time with family and friends
