Man charged in fatal wreck

EASLEY — An Easley man was charged with failure to yield at an intersection after a fatal accident Saturday afternoon.

Pickens County Coroner Kandy Kelley identified the victim as 27-year-old Jonathan Ray Jefferson-Neal.

The collision occurred at 12:35 p.m. Saturday on S.C. Highway 183 near Cannery Road, two miles

Hammond a part of BHSPC story for 40 years

PICKENS — Dr. Mary Hammond remembers when Behavioral Health Services of Pickens County was “just a little building on the side of the road.”

That building is still there, but the agency has grown to include several offices in Pickens, offering a variety of services to residents.

Hammond has been involved in helping to steer the agency for many years — this year marks her 40th year on the agency’s board. She’s been helping others for far longer than that.

Looming large

There’s a new piece of outdoor art in downtown Pickens, as Twelve Mile Defense owner David Harned hosted a four-year anniversary celebration for his business on Friday including free food and a live chainsaw carving demonstration by Rick Travers, who turned a tree outside the shop into a larger-than-life bear sculpture. It took Travers, who has been sculpting for 30 years, several days to complete the bear.

 

Light Up Liberty contest is underway

LIBERTY — Liberty Festivals and Events and the city of Liberty have announced the Light Up Liberty competition to encourage a festive 2020 holiday season.

Pickens Dental Associates celebrating 35th birthday

Six Mile bazaar and benefit for Jasy Donald is Saturday

SIX MILE — If you are ready to do some local Christmas shopping, how about helping someone in need in the process?

This Saturday, Dec. 5, from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. a special Christmas bazaar and benefit will be held at the Six Mile town fire depot, located at 102 N. Main St. in Six Mile.

Jasy’s Journey is a fundraiser for Jasy Donald, a local 14-year-old who is suffering with 90 percent kidney failure. Jasy and her family live in the Central/Six Mile area. Jasy has recently been featured on a local television newscasts as she fights her battle with kidney desease and waits on a kidney donation.

More than 20 local vendors will be on site with unique Christmas gifts, decorations, stocking stuffers and baked goods. Hot dog lunches will be available for purchase.

• Christmas events set in Dacusville

Dacusville will soon be getting into the Christmas spirit with the annual Christmas tree lighting event and Christmas parade in December. The tree lighting event will be held at 7 p.m Dec. 11 at the old Dacusville school on Earls Bridge Road. The annual Christmas parade will be the next day on Saturday, Dec. 12, beginning at 2 p.m.
