SENECA — Easley coach Jordan Durrah won’t likely forget his first win as a head coach on Friday night.
The Green Wave (1-7) tallied season highs in points and total offense in rolling Seneca 44-14.
“First of all, I’m just proud of these seniors,” Durrah said. “I’m proud of the seniors for continuing to lead and for doing things the right way throughout the adversity and throughout the losing and end the season on a high note.”
It was the Easley’s best performance all season. Defensively, the Green Wave gave up their fewest points of the season, picking off two passes and

CENTRAL — Trent Pearman has been among the top high school football players in the state in recent weeks, but in Friday night’s 62-30 first-round playoff win against Chester, the Daniel junior quarterback engineered his best performance yet.
Pearman finished 21-of-26 passing for 415 yards and six touchdowns as he picked apart the Cyclones’ secondary with ease in the romp at Singleton Field.
“I thought he did a great job tonight,” Daniel head coach Jeff Fruster said. “He showed so much poise in the pocket, and nothing really rattled him. He took his shots where he could and really led this offense.”
Pearman’s performance was the latest standout performance he’s

PICKENS — After a promising start to the season, the last few weeks had not gone in Pickens’ favor heading into Friday night’s matchup with the Woodmont Wildcats.
With one last shot to pick up a win on the season, the Blue Flame couldn’t end their late season slide in a disappointing 42-27 loss to the Wildcats.
Typically, whoever wins the time of possession battle has the edge, and Pickens certainly won that battle, thanks in large part to the

Landrum drops Red Devils in final game of season

LIBERTY — After a season riddled with delays and makeup games due to COVID-19, the Liberty Red Devils came to the end of the line Friday night against the Landrum Cardinals in a 42-14 loss.
Landrum received the opening kickoff, but was quickly forced into a three-and-out due to a tackle for loss by Trinity Oglesby before punting the ball away.
Taking over at their own 20, the Red Devils came out with E.J. Stafford behind center. The Red Devils did little to move the ball and were forced into a punt, too.
Stafford punted the ball 22 yards to the Liberty 49, where it was caught by Landrum receiver Bobby Dodd. Dodd then took the punt all the way back to the end zone

Soapstone Church pays off mortgage
By Jason Evans

PICKENS — A crowd gathered at Soapstone Baptist Church Saturday afternoon to celebrate the history — and the future — of the church founded by freed slaves.
An effort to raise $50,000 to pay off the church’s mortgage hit its goal earlier this year, and church members celebrated by burning the mortgage on the large soapstone rock that gives the church its name.
“To God be the glory,” Mable Owens Clarke said. “I can hear Table Rock ringing bells. I can hear
Caesar’s Head ringing bells — and what the those bells ringing are saying is ’To God be the glory.’”
The church has been part of Clarke’s entire life. Her
