Memorial Day ceremony in Six Mile

The town of Six Mile held its traditional observation of Memorial Day on May 30. A memorial wreath was provided by Fleet Reserve Branch 15, in memory of all the fallen and in particular the four Medal of Honor recipients from the Six Mile area. AnMed Health Cancer Survivor’s and Fighter’s Day set for Sept. 20

UPSTATE — In recognition of National Cancer Survivors Day, the AnMed Health Cancer Center is reminding cancer fighters and survivors to save the date for a celebration on Sept. 20, conditions permitting due to COVID-19. Details will be announced closer to the date.

Many people’s lives have been touched by cancer. Nearly 17 million people in the United States and more than 32 million worldwide have or have had cancer.

This Sunday, June 7, cancer fighters and survivors will be acknowledged as part of the 33rd annual

AnMed Health allowing one support person with patients

PICKENS — Beginning on Monday, one visitor or support person is now allowed in the AnMed Health Emergency Department (ED) with each patient.

The system has also begun allowing one support person for doctor office visits and outpatient procedures.

For the safety of patients and staff, AnMed Health’s visitor restrictions remain unchanged and in place at all AnMed Health inpatient locations. Everyone entering the building — patients, support persons and staff — must wear a mask or face-covering. Those who do not have a mask may use an alternative such as a bandana, scarf or other cloth face-covering.

Very present help in troubled times

We are not even halfway into the year and our nation is going through a tremendous amount of stress and tribulation. As if the pandemic was not enough, we are now seeing an insurrection of hatred and violence, and we still have an election ahead of us.

I would imagine that most of you watch the news, and to be honest, I probably absorb a little too much. Some evenings when I try to sleep, my mind is so hyped-up and distressed with worry that I end up turning and tossing.

Easley man charged with murder

EASLEY — An Easley man is charged with murder after a woman was stabbed to death Sunday.

Gary Rowland Knight, 66, is charged with murder and possession of a weapon during commission of a violent crime, Easley Police Chief Tim Tollison said in a release Sunday.

Tollison said Easley police officers responded to a report of an assault at 106 Crescent St. early Sunday afternoon.

Upon arrival, officers found a woman with an apparent stab wound, he said.

Tollison said the woman did not survive the injury and was pronounced dead at the scene by Pickens County deputy coroner
