COUNTY — The Pickens County YMCA will host its annual Tri the Ridge Sprint Triathlon on Saturday, Sept. 14.

The event will take place at the Pickens YMCA located at 2223 Gentry Memorial Hwy. The silver sponsors for this year’s race are Advanced Family Dentistry and Kelly’s Family Pharmacy.

The Triathlon event will consist of a 300 yard swim, 13 mile bike and a 3.1 mile run. A relay team option is also available for the Triathlon event. All participants receive a t-shirt and are timed.

“The YMCA Race Team and Pickens YMCA are extremely excited about this year’s Tri the Ridge Sprint Triathlon,” branch executive Ryan Smith said. “The volunteer committee from the YMCA Race Team, led by Race Director Haley Gann, have worked very hard at planning this year’s event and securing numerous sponsorships and partnerships to help make this event possible. Registration is going well, and we anticipate a good crowd for the event. Tri the Ridge is a great event because it is challenging enough for experienced athletes while being suitable to beginner athletes as well, all while providing some amazing scenery at the foot of the mountains.

“The best thing about this event is that it raises money for Share the Spirit Scholarship Fund and our YMCA Race Team. The scholarship fund provides families the opportunity to participate in summer camp, afterschool, swim lessons, and membership who otherwise would not have been able to afford those programs.”
