Pickens honors Austin
Pickens’ Main Street was covered with red, white and blue and yellow ribbons this week in memory of PFC Barrett Austin, who lost his life after an IED attack in Afghanistan. Pictured above, Town and Country Florist owner Sheila Bennett and Pickens Mayor David Owens hang a yellow ribbon on one of the many trees along Main Street on Tuesday morning. Bennett said that when a tragedy like this happens to a family here in Pickens County, it brings home the fact that we are at war. Owens added that Austin did not only pay the ultimate sacrifice for our country, he did it to provide freedom for all of us here in Pickens County and should be honored as a hero. Flags all over the county were flown at half-mast in honor of Austin.
